When & how will Burnham’s honeymoon come to an end?

Burnham’s leadership has been relatively free of drama, so far, and certainly when compared to his hapless predecessor.

What do we think will represent Burnham’s first real test? The budget, or something else?

Rayner was neither PM nor leader of the opposition. An effective leader of the opposition doesn’t sneer, goad or make personal attacks. I know Badenoch’s supporters think she can do no wrong but some of us are appalled by her presentation at the dispatch box and some of her own MPs are clearly uncomfortable with it.

I know Rayner was Deputy Leader of the Oppostion. Which MP’s are uncomfortable with her questions? The only thing the electorate is interested is the performance of the government, tax, inheritance tax increases, no growth, cost of living, defence not funded, unemployment up, business rates up! Yet you are appalled by her performance at the dispatch box. You must live a very privileged life.

As evidenced by @mydiorsandals post.

Does not mean most.

BIossomtoes · 13/10/2026 21:08

What is this, pedants’ corner? It was a throwaway comment. A lot of them are dead too, are you going to dispute that as well?

Well, the Tories +3% in latest polling (versus -3% for Labour), proves Kemi is doing something right.

Funny, when you mention sneering, I immediately think of Philipson, Reeves and Rayner.

Same. And Starmer did a good line in that. All of them together and sneering is a key part of why they’ve been ousted from their jobs.

I thought you were very keen on correct information and sources to back up that information.
Had you said “that is what I believe” then anyone can believe anything they want, doesn’t have to be true.
It was the “factual” that let you down.

I don't think attempting to rejoin would accomplish anything more than another decade of bitterly divisive argument. And I am not convinced that the game is worth the effort. The EU accounts for a shrinking proportion of the global market: it was about a third, and is now only about a quarter. Sorry, I can't remember where I read that, but probably either the Times, FT or Telegraph, sometime earlier this year. It was a relatively current estimate.

Agree. Plus all the talk of one nation and rehashing Brexit is ignoring where the EU is now rather than ten years ago.

Some major elections coming up there and AI / tech regulation is slowing them down.

A lot of Remain voters are dead now so what's that got to do with the price of fish ?

Yes, your comment wasn’t factual which you claimed it was.

BIossomtoes · 13/10/2026 21:21

I never claimed it was factual. I never claimed anything.

Yes, you did.

Somebody’s already done that one. You need to coordinate better.

LetMeButterYourParsnips · 13/10/2026 21:27

No, I’m just sad that posters can be so mean and misleading.

I thought some posters were better than that. I hoped they were.

Disappointed, actually.

No need to co ordinate when people can see you are wrong.

Burnham on Brexit: "it's Russia's fault"

Burnham on RAF Fairford: "it's Iran's fault"

Burnham on Labour's polling: "it's Reform's fault"

Burnham on the economy: "it's the last lot's fault"

Burnham on a two-tier, non-integrated and divided society. "it's the far-right's fault"

Burnham on the poor: "it's the rich's fault"

Burnham on everything else: "it's the algorithm spreading mis-information's fault"

Get a grip, take some responsibility and show some leadership for once!!!

Edited

Very good observation of Burnam's excuses. It made me laugh. 🤣

caringcarer · 13/10/2026 21:34

Nigel Farage has over 1 1/2 million followers on Tik Tok. Do you think they are an old demographic or young people?

I did too, still re-joining is another thing.

Perhaps Burnham should have used that you’re old too old to get out of your chair line in Makerfield. Oh hang on he lied there about Brexit.

No need to co ordinate when people can see you are wrong.

The original premise wasn’t wrong at all, though, that older voters were more likely to vote Leave. That was factual. And Blossomtoes said ‘most’, not ‘all’.

As she said, it was a throwaway comment, not nasty at all.

Does not mean most.

What does it mean then?

52% was a convincing majority according to Brexiteers, what is 60%?
