You had a chance to put a stop to the dodgy little lying, pathetic twat and you blew it.

Now we have to listen to his bollocks and hate inducing garbage for longer.

9,000 people voted for a bin rather than this swindler.

He can’t even bring himself to come to your town to accept the vote. He is laughing at you.

Real “man of the people’ - why can’t you see that he doesn’t give a crap about you or your problems?

Oh well at least the investigation into the £5mill can resume.

What a fucking waste of time and money. Disgusting. Disappointed in you guys. 🙈

Well my point is that people weren’t happy when we had a lot of migrants from places like Poland. That’s why they voted to leave the EU. This was a country more aligned with us in terms of religion and culture. And now people are moaning that the migrants we now have aren’t compatible with UK life.

Nuthatch26 · Today 11:40

The people of Clacton obviously disagree with you.

Well we don’t know, do we? Given that fewer than half of them turned out to vote yesterday. We have no idea what 57% of them think.

That's not how politics works - never was and never will be. Very few people actually read manifestos and even if they do, they end up disappointed when politicians renege on their promises and commitments as they do time and time and time again. You may sneer at @BerryTwister's post of 10.51 and call it laughable but it's actually spot on - years of politicians ignoring communities, usually in poorer areas, and dismissing their concerns has lead to this. I saw it coming years ago - many of us did - and now here we are.

Not so sure. Farage has completely ignored Clacton even as their MP. He doesn’t give a toss about them and has already proven that. It has to be about more than that.

This is very much a case of fool me once. Clacton voters get absolutely everything they deserve if they have a problem now.

I agree with your point, but I don't see any reason why the migrants arriving now would not be arriving in the same numbers if we hadn't left the EU. Countries still members of the EU are receiving migrants from the same countries as us, many via small boat.

Well yes, but you could say the same for any election, including GEs.
The turnout was pretty good imo.

Turnout for the Manchester mayoral election was only 25%.

It's up to them. If there's another by election in Clacton, Farage will probably win that too.

These discussions are always the same on MN. The bottom line is this:-

Large number of members of UK population “I’m sick of seeing all these immigrants coming in on boats, no wonder I can’t get a house or a doctors appointment. That Farage bloke is the only politician who seems to care about it”

Middle class population “you’re stupid, you don’t know anything, you don’t understand anything, you’re racist and thick”

Large number of members of UK population “screw you, how dare you tell me I’m stupid, you don’t see what I see. I’m definitely voting Reform now”

And that is how our next government will be Reform.

Exactly, but say this, and you too are "racist", "thick" and far right. Its so fucking moronic.

It was 57% in Clacton in 2024. Less than half isn’t a good turnout in any election.

sittingonabeach · Today 11:27

There are people on MN who did vote for him. Why would they be treated as Global joke. If he had won he wasn’t going to sit in Parliament with his costume on.

look at the international press around this

Nuthatch26 · Today 12:12

BIossomtoes · Today 12:08

It was 57% in Clacton in 2024. Less than half isn’t a good turnout in any election.

That was a GE though, which usually have a higher turnout.
Average turnout for a parliamentary by-election is 40-50% so Clacton is bang on average. Considering the circus and the heatwave, it was pretty good.

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · Today 12:13

@Palomiino "grow a thicker skin" or maybe there should go to Uni and read Politics? or perhaps they could swap the Sun/Mail for the Guardian? Or you could accept that people are this way and that the political parties need to be more respectful of hard working voters with very different educations, opinions and circumstances.

Listen, learn, value different opinions, discuss, debate and work to create understanding - stop bollocking people!

Clavinova · Today 12:17

Clacton I hope that you are pleased with yourselves. Utter morons voting for Farage instead of sending a clear message. Just think what that £250k that has been wasted on this ridiculous by election could have been spent on instead.

This was your chance and you blew it.

What has he personally done for any of you at all? Just what benefits have you seen having him as your MP? Name one thing.

The man couldn't even be bothered to turn up for the count. He's laughing his vile head off at you all.

Not me but I saw a video two weeks ago of an older couple thanking Farage for intervening in their Council Tax banding dispute - which resulted in them getting a refund of £6,000. Apparently they and the previous owners had been in dispute for 30 years in total and Farage 'broke the impasse' on their behalf. They were thrilled - 'We contacted you because you took on the banks'.

ITMA2000 · Today 12:17

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · Today 11:23

@ITMA2000 @UrbanFan Would you have voted for a man dresses as a bin and been happy about being treated as a Global joke for your 'choice' of MP?

If the choice was him or Farage, yes. And the people of Clacton are already a global joke for voting for an absentee MP (who has only mentioned "Clacton" 4 times in the few times he has bothered to turn up at the HoC).

People have felt this way for years. It is not new and people don’t vote a certain way because other people scold them.

And as I said, Reform do not have the answer to any problems. They are all talk.

noblegiraffe · Today 12:19

Windsurf · Today 11:40

Do you think anything new was there to learn?

That there is significant appetite for an ‘anyone but Nigel’ vote. That people will turn out to vote for a literal joke candidate in preference to him.

If they are willing to vote for a bin rather than stay at home, then they are probably willing to tactically vote for a ‘best chance to beat Farage’ candidate from whatever party is coming second in their constituency.

And this tactical voting will present a big problem for Reform in the next election. It’s not enough to be people’s first choice on the ballot paper if you have to also overcome the ‘definitely not that party’ anti-vote.

Palomiino · Today 12:19

faithfultoGeorgeMichael · Today 12:07

Well, to be honest, it has been the case in quite a lot of people. Fingers in ears and all they care about is people on boats, not everything else and certainly not facts.

In 2016, the ratio of the "White Other" population to the non-white population in the UK was approximately 1 to 2.14 (or roughly 0.47 to 1).
This means that for every 10 people identifying as "White Other" (White individuals of non-British/non-Irish backgrounds, such as Polish or European nationals), there were about 21 people identifying as non-white. 1]

Demographic Breakdown (2016 ONS Estimates)

  • "White Other" Population: ~4.17 million (~6.3% of the total UK population).
  • Non-White Population: ~8.90 million (~13.6% of the total UK population). 1, 2]

Context of the Ratio

  • The EU Impact: The "White Other" category grew rapidly in the decade leading up to 2016, largely driven by EU freedom of movement (particularly the 2004 enlargement that brought over 1 million Polish nationals to the UK). 1, 2, 3, 4]
  • The Minority Landscape: Together, these two categories made up the "ethnic minority" landscape of Britain. Combined, they accounted for roughly 20% of the entire population, meaning "White Other" residents comprised nearly one-third of all ethnic minorities in the country at that time. 1, 2]

And another leftie refusing to understand people’s real concerns. Views such as those in the OP are the actual reason why Nigel is an MP. So OP, if you don’t want Nigel as an MP you might want to look a bit closer to home

I hope you're also delighted that the investigation into Farage's non-declaration of the £5m donated to him by a cr**to magnate has immediately resumed. He won't be as in his world it's one rule for him and another for everyone else, of course.

Farage wasnt even an MP when he received the money.
He probably needed since some slimy little toad (no names mentioned) cut his security detail off.

Six times actually. Ed Miliband has only mentioned Doncaster twenty times in twenty years (twice since 2023) - how funny is that.

decided to be an MP

I guess you’re right, people voted for Starmer on this basis. I’d rather Bin Man than the lot of them, hell I’d rather my dithering dog than them.

But at the end of the day, multiculturalism has failed, most people can see that. When people feel threatened they turn on people who seek to disrupt society with different cultures and beliefs, it’s always been the case, take any point in history and people see the importance of shared beliefs, ideals and goals whenever there is trouble and will seek to get rid of dissenters. People protect their gods (whether those gods are supernatural or not) there’s always idealists/conscientious objectors but it’s a good job the majority aren’t.

people are starting to see patterns from the past replaying in modern times - some pick up on these things more quickly than others
