I think it's a mistake to assume that conspiracy theorists or people making other outlandish claims fall into neat 'left' or 'right' wing boxes- I worked with a woman who believed most conspiracy theories, her views were all over the place politically and at best I would describe her as 'anti-establishment'. For e.g. one of her opinions was that Iran and Donald Trump were actually co-operating as part of the war with the deep state.

Her basic starting position was always that the state was lying to us, the reasons for that were often whatever fitted most neatly in her head.

I don't work with her now, but I could easily see that she would believe anything that suggested a fit-up or that the police had the wrong man.

No, just people who have more decency and respect.

This was about your crass & graceless remarks!
How that reflects how poor Ann lost her life is beyond me!
Disgusting attitude from you!

I think you are probably right actually.

From what I have seen from having had a delve online it is not the progressive left pushing the conspiracy angle. What is being hinted at is that Ann Widdecombe had discovered something the establishment had rather she didn't. Just batshit stuff.

That's interesting. Probably nonsense but interesting.

SomethingFun · 22/07/2026 15:00

If a shadowy someone wanted Ann out of the picture then a push down the dormer stairs would’ve sufficed - look at how desperate people were to believe she had fallen and died of old age and frailty. If it was a reform murder to shore up Nigel’s dodgy money for ‘security’ then a local yokel could’ve been set up far more easily than some sad sack from Rotherham. I wouldn’t be surprised if some dodgy fuck online gave him her address and encouraged him to do it but I doubt very much it was an evil mastermind. People want conspiracies because it makes senseless things make sense.

A very valid point.
Lets stick to the facts that a man has been charged by police with horrifically killing Ann Widdecombe.

The motive has not yet been established but it has been stated that this was a targeted attack meaning it was either personal or political.

The details of the case including the motive are unlikely to be known before his trial in June 2027.

Oh right, you mean DM FACTS?
Nope!
Just gullible narrow-minded people! 🙄

They were the fact from his bail hearing in court, as told by the prosecution lawyer!

LuckyHazelFox · 22/07/2026 15:19

@1dayatatime Well said.

I think the only odd thing is that Anne’s killer had no social media. He is supposed to have been unemployed and spent a lot of time alone, his car was barely used and’had weeds growing around it’ his neighbours said.
He was politically motivated and had newspaper clippings of Nigel Farage on his wall. What guy his age has not got any presence on line and why did they scrub it?

placemats · 22/07/2026 15:27

No one can scrub their social media. If the laptop,pc is intact the information is there.

How do do you know he hasn't any SM presence?

Who is "they"?

I think it’s sad and horrific enough without conspiracy theories on top. Ik why they thrive but it’s not very nice to see.

Agree and some of the language and tone being used here is disturbing. I wish people would keep it to themselves. If we wanted to go looking for it on FB or wherever we would.

The stuff I've seen on Facebook says this. It also variously blames Keir Starmer, Nigel Farage, Andy Burnham, says she knew too much, the guy is a "patsy", drags up David Kelly, Jill Dando, suggests Rik Mayall was bumped off, repeatedly says it's fishy, asks why are we not being told the truth, it's the deep state, they must think we're all stupid, asks when can we see the video (which is AI) and says the police are complete liars. I really didn't realise how weird people are.

Oh and she's not dead at all she's in hiding.

Edited

I really didn't realise how weird people are.

Me neither. Even from behind a computer screen on an anonymous forum I'd be too embarrassed to write out some of the utter complete bollocks some people are posting.

21 Times, Sickening ,I don't get why the Trial is next June !.😥Ann was Shrewd. She basically has caught her own killer. He clearly wasn't banking on CCTV in the house.

You can't speed in traffic that's backed up, especially when you leave during that time of the morning with school runs and rush hour.

Remind me - how often does traffic get backed up on the M1 around Sheffield and Nottingham during school runs and the rush hour? Here's a clue - it doesn't unless there is an accident. It may get busy, but it is nowhere near jammed solid.

There is a massive backlog in the courts still, which is perhaps why it will take so long.

I know there's another specific thread on this running, but I do hope Herbert gets the book thrown at him. Now the brutal circumstances of Ann's murder have been released, it questions Aberdeen University's reluctance to sack him. Maybe they are waiting on further news about his arrest but I can't believe anybody with any decency would want to work with him again. Not to mention prospective students. Freedom of speech legislation and right to assembly is long overdue a revisit. There's so much hate out there and it DOES need curbing. It's how far we go with it is the question.

Happy to derail this thread to f up the conspiracy theories with Angel Delight enema discourse if needed

Shame they can't catch these people BEFORE they act.

But you wouldn’t know about it.

Brightlittlecanary · 22/07/2026 16:42

What on earth has happened on here, a woman was brutally murdered and some people are focused on making up random conspiracy theory shite.

He’s unlikely to have been posting all over Facebook and instagram, far more likely to have spent time on the ‘dark web’.

Well, precisely. The BBC timeline suggests she was killed around 12.30 - he was on the motor way during the ‘school rush hour’ and not on the winding backroads until late morning.

HelenaWilson · 22/07/2026 16:45

There is a massive backlog in the courts still, which is perhaps why it will take so long.

And the police probably still have enquiries to carry out. It takes time to go through phone and internet records. Then all that information has to be made available to the accused's legal team so they can plan the defence.

I went through a period of ripping apart batshit conspiracy theories on MN threads using known facts but got accused of being an apologist for whichever party or person was involved etc.

Unfortunately we seem to be in a period where feelings matter more than facts and that if you don't agree with everything I say then you clearly support the extreme of the opposing side. The middle ground is dying.
