Did I imagine it, or was there something about his mother and brother living somewhere in Devon? I just wondered about that, but I may have got that wrong.

But it has quiet times, I don’t get the argument, it is clearly wholly feasible to do this in 4 hr 4o mins, people cannot seriously think the cctv footage, his car, was all faked, and ghe murder weapon planted.

it’s like a parallel universe on here where people will beleive that over he did a journey in a perfectly feasible time.

If it was a fit up are you saying they couldn’t find a different lone nutter between Devon and South Yorkshire that lives within what you consider a reasonable commuting time for a murder? Ffs.

Exactly. What are the people fixating on the time saying? Surely if it was some bizarre fit up the police would have 1. chosen one of the numerous new age travellers/ER types who fill the West Country and 2. tampered with the time on the CCTV footage? I'm not sure what people are saying when she was murdered in Haytor and the murder weapon was found at his house with her DNA on it! Or is the CPS and forensics in on this too?

I agree with a pp that the car was probably registered to his brother and that’s the first man they arrested, as apparently the number plate of the car on Ann’s drive was clearly visible on the cctv.

Yes, I have. Those comments are clearly exaggerations. Yes, it is sometimes bad, but it is not always like that. I generally lose some time around there compared with going at 70mph all the way, but not several hours.

The trial won't take place until next June. So awful for Ann's family being in limbo. When he enters his plea, with all the evidence we have heard about, it would surprising if he pleads not guilty. Who knows. He's got a nice long period of incarceration until then.

Same. After the 1st guy was released, they almost immediately said they knew who they were looking for.

Shame they can't catch these people BEFORE they act.

He wasn't flagged on the Prevent scheme.

They catch a lot of people before they act, to be fair.

According to a comment by the uncle in the Daily Mail story this Joshua character was the youngest sibling. The 26 year old couldn't be his brother if this is true. This doesn't mean the car didn't belong to one of his brothers, however.

I’m kind of thinking the same. That he might plead guilty so there will be no trial and there will never be any more information as to why.

I wonder if the 26 year old was the gardener, if he found her he might have touched her/ended up with blood on him which might have heightened suspicion.

The 26 year old could have been a delivery driver or even a postman spotted on the cctv on Weds afternoon or even Thursday. Because until the post mortem they would not have been sure exactly when she died.

If they went back through the cctv from the time she was found they might have found someone else visited the property to deliver something without realising she was dead in the kitchen.

it’! Who made you the thread police? I don’t necessarily agree with the poster, but everyone’s entitled to give an opinion on here. I seem to remember a pile on about the car smashing through a school fence killing 2 pupils in Wimbledon, when some posters (and indeed witnesses) suggested that there was more to it than the police seemed to be accepting. Look what eventually happened there - there was indeed a lot more to it, and there may or may not be in this case. Don’t try to censor other people.

I think it's far too easy to get lost in being suspicious about the timings of the accused's journey as presented so far. He wasn't on a schedule but a mission. Beyond it being impossible to have done the journeys in the time scale suggested there's no story here beyond him sadly succeeding.

I said up thread I thought maybe the guy arrested looked like the culprit, but it makes more sense it took time to access the video footage,and as soon as they did they released him and knew who to go for.

it is a crime that keeps crossing my mind, as it is so awful and so utterly bizzare, that a 28 year old man would get in his car, with a hammer in his pocket, drive 4 and a half hours down to Anne Widdecombes house, walk through the door and kill her in a brutal frenzied attack in two mins and then drive home. It is evil, and utterly baffling. To actually do that is shocking. On all fronts.

I doubt he can do anything but plead guilty, they have the video footage and as the camera was in the hall they will have his face clearly visible as he exited, as well as footage of the whole attack. I understand they also have his car and number plate and him getting out on ring footage. He’s clearly as thick as mince. The murder weapon was in his bin, photos of the bank cards he stole on her phone.

I have family who are senior officers and there will be officers who have to go through that footage frame by frame and detail it. I feel sorry for them too.
