Absolutely no need for this. They have said there’s no political motivation. It’s just Farage dining out on it again.

Surely better safe than sorry. No point in taking any chances till this dangerous individual was caught.which he has been thank goodness. Let's hope they've got the right person.

For all those posters pushing the narrative that this was most likely a burglary gone wrong and criticising those that who didn't think it was - don't you think that 270 miles from South Yorkshire to Haytor seems a rather long way to travel for just a burglary?

Imnotanumber · Today 01:05

Just under 90% of murdered women are killed by someone they know. I feel this is going to have a very sad outcome

Onmytod24 · Today 01:14

Dollymylove · Yesterday 23:50

Yes this seems very bizarre. Surely the police will ask for the publics help in identifying a suspect.
What is it they dont want us to know?

Honestly, do you always consider a conspiracy your first line of thought.

I read earlier that all the Reform MP's were now on 24 hour protection.

Farage will be loving this hoping he’s gonna be exonerated for his back pocket cash. Sickening.

We don't know that was the journey. We just know they might have gone from Haytor to S Yorks - how far would you go if you were on the run?

PerkingFaintly · Today 01:23

South Africa is even further from Bedfordshire. People who've committed murder often take to their heels.

I don't have an opinion either way on whether the attack on Ann Widdecombe really was a burglary attempt. It's just an option which would fit quite well with the information currently available to us, the public. What's weird is the number of people dismissing burglary out of hand in favour of leaping to more exciting possibilities which are no more likely and in some cases rather less likely.Hmm

But ultimately we have to wait for the results of the investigation and (hopefully) a successful prosecution. The real answer could be practically anything.

Absolutely no need for this. They have said there’s no political motivation. It’s just Farage dining out on it again.

I don't think the police have said they know there definitely wasn't a political motive?

Just that they had found no information to suggest that there there was a political motive.

This assessment might remain the case, or might change as the investigation proceeds.

(I agree that Farage is a perpetual self-serving opportunist, mind you.)

I don't think AW would have agreed to wear an emergency pendant.

i agree with you, but she may have been able to be persuaded to wear a smart watch that would have detected her fall, but I can't see how that would've changed the outcome unless she didn't actually die immediately as well it's very unlikely anyone would've arrived in time to save her life even if it was possible with the state he left her in 😢

Teanbiscuits33 · Today 03:15

Farage has come out and said he thinks it’s premeditated and that there was a car outside 5 mins before she died. How he would know this, God knows. He must have a special relationship with the police that nobody else does?

He makes a strange comment regarding the Jill Dando case as well if you ask me, saying he hopes they don’t end up not finding her killer.

After everyone has been asked not to speculate, he just can’t help himself.

@Dollymylove BG was never compensated because he did it… criminals don’t tend to get compensation when they weren’t incorrectly incarcerated… why not properly read up? You’re totally wrong

No, it's because he was of bad character and "not innocent enough." They don't clear murderers and let them out.

What happened to humanity ? I don’t care what political beliefs or religious beliefs Ann had. It would be horrifying for anyone to die that way.

What type of human beings celebrate these horrible events ?

A 78 year old woman was beaten to death in her own home . I’d be horrified if this happened to anyone .

Totally agree. Until they catch the right person, no one has any idea what the motives were.

It could have been politics, a break in gone wrong, mental health issues - anything.

Either way, it’s a horrible way for anyone to end their lives.

Some of the posts have been horrible. And echo chamber of bile.

Settlersa · Today 07:47

Spookyspaghetti · Today 00:30

Help from counter terror police, the plot thickens. Maybe they just needed the firearms officers because the suspect was suspected to have weapons.

Probably more a just in case as it would be with any politician rather than just a member of the public

Burglars often drive up park on people’s front drives at midday then murder elderly frail women who are zero physical threat to them 🙄🤦🏽‍♀️ this wasn’t a burglary.

Barry George was charged last year for a historic rape offence.

We don’t know if the suspect was from Yorkshire. Just that he was arrested there.

There is a direct train from Newton Abbot (12 minutes from her house) to Sheffield at 1pm on a Wednesday. It’s totally possible that, given nobody found her for 24 hours, the suspect jumped on a train and fled. Newton Abbot station is tiny and the station staff there don’t really care as long as you have a ticket.

Sorry off topic but impressive there is direct train from Devon to Yorkshire

Hourly!

You have to get to Newton Abbot for the decent connections from South Devon (trains coming up via Penzance and Plymouth), or Exeter if you’re coming from North Devon. If you’re in east Devon and want to go to London there’s the Waterloo line but if not, you’ve got to go via Exeter as well. Plymouth is well connected too!

So why would someone travel 280 miles to kill an elderly lady?
There must be more to it

There is absolutely no evidence that the person travelled 280 miles to kill her.

As I’ve just said, it’s entirely plausible they jumped on a train at Newton Abbot and ended up there.

allthewa · Today 09:29

To add to that, Farage has admitted there is no pattern of abuse towards her.

Or drove. If the person had a car he could simply have driven to a friend’s house in Sheffield. If the police already had his registration number from the ring doorbell then they could presumably have tracked his journey through cctv. Pure speculation of course, but perfectly plausible. It does suggest that whoever this person is, he wasn’t very experienced at covering his tracks.
