What do you think of Lammy's comments on taking the knee?

David Lammy has said he wouldn't take the knee for Nowak as it's just symbolism.

He was asked why did he take the knee for George Floyd, and he said it was different then because we were in a pandemic.

What do you think? I think he's right about the first point but don't understand what the knee has got to do with the pandemic.

There was another Labour MP on Newsnight this week who's clearly embarrassed that she took the knee and said something like "it was right then but that's in the past now and we shouldn't go back to it"

The point is that the police actually murdered Floyd. They did not murder Novak.

That’s one difference, yes.

Another is that Floyd was the worst of humanity arrested for yet more criminality whereas Henry Nowak was entirely innocent.

It’s as valid to concentrate on this factor as any other. The beatification of Floyd was always problematic.

I think politicians like Lammy are wildly naive to have taken the knee for George Floyd but make a point to refuse for Nowak.
At this point, I’m starting to think they are purposely engineering civil unrest.

Did they take the knee for Floyd?

I think there was a question about race and police that long predated his murder.

He was a recovering drug addict.

The police action that lead to his death followed an allegation of passing a counterfeit bank note.

I've worked in a cash handling environment and accepted what the bank returned as a counterfeit £20 note. I doubt the guy who passed it had a printing press in his cellar.

I thought he had fentanyl in his system when he died (presumably you’re talking about George Floyd?)

They did take the knee for Floyd, yes.
Specifically on the day of his funeral.

Yes, they couldn't do better if they tried, if civil disorder is their aim.

I would be more concerned with 250,000 Black Americans being murdered over the last 25 years (mostly by other Black Americans) than your figure of 3,000 killed by the Police over the last 25 years.

As a parent the trauma is the same regardless of how your child is killed, what is important is the probability and risk factor.

Strange isnt it how we don't hear much noise when black on black murders take place, isnt it 🤔

5MinuteArgument · Yesterday 17:01

EasternStandard · Yesterday 15:52

Yes to this. And it is bigger than this still as seen in the press conference today re Nottingham. It’s the kind of failings that are now pervasive across institutions and services.

Yes, the assumption of guilt towards Henry Novak; changing the head teacher's assessment of the Southport killer because of 'racial profiling'; releasing Nottingham killer back into the community because a report said too many black males were being sectioned; security guard fails to stop Manchester Arena bomber because he doesn't want to appear racist. That's on top of the authorities turning a blind eye to the grooming gangs in dozens of towns and cities across the UK.

A pattern is emerging and it doesn't help anyone.

Strange isnt it how we don't hear much noise when black on black murders take place, isnt it 🤔

In London, historical Metropolitan Police data cited by government reviews found that in 2017 about 50% of knife crime offenders and 50% of knife crime victims were from Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) groups combined. For knife crime with injury, 69% of offenders and 55% of victims were BAME.

Also most knife crime in the UK involves people of the same broad ethnic group, because violent crime generally occurs among people who live in the same communities and social networks.

In short black people are statistically over represented in knife crime both as perpetrators and as victims.

I support anything that gets knives off the streets from heavy sentences, new legislation, to stop and search which helps stop perpetrators and saves potential victims. I know many people object to "racially profiled stop and search "
but to very blunt the hassle of being stopped and searched as a young black boy is nothing compared to the trauma of a black mother grieving over her dead son.

Yes, but they treated Henry abominably while he was dying, to the extent that it's inevitable that people will wonder if that treatment contributed to his death.

And it happened in the UK, not in another country thousands of miles away.

Sadly the left only care when there is a "victim of oppression".
So a white man stabbing a black person with racist motives gets headlines. The police killing a black person regardless of the circumstances gets headlines.

A black person killing another black person then no one seems to care- except of course the grieving mother and family who in many respects are more concerned about losing a child, brother, father, friend than exactly how they died.

Agree, police backing off from stop and search has actually harmed the black community. Some black commentators are onto this and it's good to hear their voices.

Oh give over.

Before this he was arrested and convicted 8 times for armed robbery and drug charges. One of which he dressed up as a utilities service worker to gain access to a pregnant woman’s property.

Let’s not continue to give Hero status and “oh he was a changed man he didn’t deserve to die” on this fentanyl addicts name.

The counterfeit money was the straw that broke the camels back.

But the white lefty liberals are against profiled stop and search because well it's "racist" or "discriminatory ".

Ignoring the reality that 50% of knife crime perpetrators and not really giving a crap that 50% of knife crime victims are black.

Fortunately the black community is waking up to the fact that the white lefty liberals are not their allies and only want to use them to further their "victim hood " agenda.

White liberals will often let their mask drop when faced with a black person who has conservative views.
They hate when the people they view as beneath them (black/ poor/ immigrants) have the temerity to disagree with them about their own experiences.

Agree, George Floyd was a thoroughly unpleasant criminal who preyed on his own community. It's mad that this fentenyl-addicted predator was elevated to hero status.

Agree 100% - when a black commentator has a different point of view, the liberal-leftists can't cope as it upends their lazy assumptions.

I thought the beef with Stop and Search was led by Black organisations? I’ve always wondered why we rarely see black parents of victims of black on black crime publicly condoning stop and search as a way to prevent more deaths. Maybe it’s similar to the ‘don’t look back in anger’ narrative that our government and media love to push.

He did, and a long history of violent crime.

It was wrong he was killed, but the world is better without him in it.
