Sounds like she's throwing her hat in the ring.

She says she's paid off the tax she owes and is no longer under investigation.

This apparently means she's free to run - and is going to.

List of some of past world leaders without uni degrees:

Hitler - left at 16 with no qualifications - not completing his schooling
Stalin - expelled from seminary
Mao - but I think some teacher training of some sort
Mussolini - also some sort of elementary teaching qualification but no uni
Gaddafi - did not finish
Nicolas Maduro - did not finish secondary education, bus driver, trade union leader
Idi Amin - very little formal education (although as chancellor of a uni he gave himself a degree)

So yes, I will be sticking to my principles of preferring world leaders with higher education, And it is evidence based. And especially relevant in this age of populism, to me at least.

For the avoidance of doubt, I am not implying Rayner is in any shape or form like the above list. However, I am illustrating why I would always prefer a leader with a uni degree.

A leader without basic academic secondary school qualifications I am not willing to compromise on.

She has been cleared by HMRC of deliberate wrongdoing or carelessness over her tax affairs and has paid the tax owed.

No fine was imposed.

I do agree that she should have sought expert tax advice, not doing that was a massive mistake.

I’d be in jail if I’d done what she did. And the country would be in deep shit if millions of people had these
kinds of tax oversights. It 100% stinks, even if there has been no penalty. I wonder if there was no penalty because of her privileged position. I mean if the man in the street has a computer glitch and submits his tax return one day late, he’ll be fined regardless.

Putin has an university degree

Araminta1003 · 29/05/2026 13:45

“Putin has an university degree”

Yes, most world leaders do.

Socialist Russia enabled education to the highest level, for as many people as possible.
I do not think anyone ever suggested Putin was not strategic and intelligent, did they @TopPocketFind ?

If anything, it is an argument to put a highly intelligent qualified person in charge in our own country given Putin is still in power. Would you not agree?

The list is ridiculous. And insulting. And illogical.

BIossomtoes · 29/05/2026 13:50

You wouldn’t be in jail if you intentionally defrauded HMRC, you’d be fined. And we have no idea whether or not Rayner was fined by or not.

If course there was this but he was still appointed chancellor.

I don't really know what you were trying to suggest with your list.

And I doubt it very much that you want a Putin like PM for the UK @Araminta1003 even if you prefer leaders with a uni degree but maybe I am wrong?

And why are you now engaging with whataboutery?

Knock yourselves out - You are welcome to take one line out of context, but I have been consistent in my criticism of Angela Rayner throughout this thread. N

None of it has been to do with sex, gender, class or education. But don't let the truth get in your way.

Araminta1003 · 29/05/2026 13:58

No @CurlewKate - my list is not illogical. Both extreme left and extreme right share a lot in common. In fact, Vladimir Putin is a perfect example of a leader who uses facets from both ideologies to advance.

What relevance has another crook got?
It just shows all politicians are the same, regardless of the colour of their stupid rosette.

BIossomtoes · 29/05/2026 14:06

The relevance is that Zahawi wasn’t jailed despite his intentional tax underpayment being many multiples of Rayner’s unintentional one.

Northermcharn · 29/05/2026 14:06

TopPocketFind · 29/05/2026 12:40

I am not implying that Rayner could not pass an English or Maths GCSE exam, where do you get that from?

And you know the reason why she doesn't have the qualifications.

She however does have the experience.

Why didn't Rayner get her 'qualifications' - GCSE's? She got Pregnant age 16, and left school then apparently. But GCSEs aren't until May /June. Her birthday is March 28th. She would've been 16 the March of GCSE year. So she would've been barely pregnant when she 'left school', and could've easily done her exams.

The council houses swaps, the tax evasion, the tory scum comment and vitriol behind it, the clubbing in the DJ box when she's deputy PM. Sorry no - no i wouldn't vote for her. We share a similar background - but she doesn't represent me.

I don't know, stigma? no support? shame? I am sure you can think of reasons why a pregnant girl would leave school.

I doubt it. I don’t remember anyone ever being jailed for under payment of tax.

TopPocketFind · 29/05/2026 14:15

The point is unless she advertised it, no one would've known. If she got pregnant at 16, at the end of the March. She wouldn't have shown until after school finished in June.

Speculating now but she probably didn't know herself for at least 2 months.

Araminta1003 · 29/05/2026 14:25

But also she has had 20 years since to do them. My 12 year old (year 7) can pass foundation maths and English language already.

It is some sort of alternative universe on here now à la stop using educational qualifications to discriminate.
I mean come on, it goes against everything Western societies have stood for in terms of trying to educate the population for free to a certain standard.

Triflingjelly · 29/05/2026 14:31

Absolutely not.

CurlewKate · 29/05/2026 14:44

OK. So everyone says it’s not her class, her accent, her voice Or her sex. It’s her questionable competence and ability. How has she shown herself to be incompetent and not able to do the job? And I’m not talking about her angry and apologized for outburst, or her vaping or her dancing. Or the mismanaged tax affairs, which have now been passed by the HMRC. I’m talking about the JOB.

“I stand by my statement. IMO she chanced her arm.

Especially when that ‘ivory tower’ is apparently an £800k seaside flat 250 miles away from where her children live

Socialist in the office, capitalist at home - with taxpayers helping fund the lifestyle and her DB unfunded pension.

As for the other:

HMRC exercised discretion not to impose penalties. It did not categorically say that she had not done anything wrong.
