Any Americans on here? What is the feeling in America regarding trump?

I've only seen one person talking out against him regarding Greenland. I know this can't be representative to reality. But I wonder what the media is controlling

What's going on in America?

Ok, well that’s good then?

I know - I get that! But why is she saying I’m a bad person? Why the personal judgment against me? I didn’t try to invade greenland

I didnt say you were a bad person. I said that participating in democracy doesn't mean anyone if free from judgement.

I have voted for:
Alliance
Women's Coalition
SF
SDLP
PBP
PUP
UUP
Greens
Various Independents
Various non-UK parties.

I may have forgotten some.

I haven't had any deletions on this thread. You must be mixing me up with someone else.

I know two people who voted Trump and they definitely regret it.

I grew up in the UK but have lived in the US for about twenty years. We are terrified, horrified, heart broken.
The murder of Renee Good, masked ICE agents grabbing people off the streets, the dismantling of vaccine programs, of universities, Venezuela (removing someone who was a dictator doesn't make it right to abandon all the rules), Greenland threats. It feels unbelievable and waking up each day like waking into a nightmare.

Why aren't they taking to the streets then?
I would have thought this sort of thing would have resulted in demonstrations.

Why do you care what someone on the internet calls you??
but yeah if you voted for Trump for whatever reason probably best if you don’t vote at all

She didn’t vote for Trump, but voted independent so her voice was heard. She voted for her needs rather than the needs of her country.

Americans overall not hugely pleased with him today, apparently

Can someone explain how Harris has91% out of control but Trump only 50%. Am I missing somthing?

it's saying that of the people polled, 91% of people who voted for Harris in 2024 feel the country is out of control, and 50% of Trump 2024 voters feel it's out of control

They / we are.

Massive crowds in NYC & Minnesota, think they are stopping mainstream media reporting on demonstrations.

Ruthietuthie · 20/01/2026 23:54

@Hanginging, people (including us) are demonstrating across the US, including in red states.
People are also acting directly against ICE, warning those who might be potential targets, demonstrating, and doing everything to make ICE raids ineffective.

sleepwouldbenice · 20/01/2026 23:54

BIossomtoes · 20/01/2026 09:19

also let’s not forget that during WWII the US didn’t provide its help for free.

It took the UK until 2006 to pay off the debt.

Whats your point here?
It took lots of money for the uk to fight a war whilst the US sat on the sidelines? Or that the US has made a fortune from interest?

Yes, I agree. Marches and protests today in my city.

I think because they are constant, which they should be, they don’t make exciting news.

mondaytosunday · 21/01/2026 00:32

Horrified, embarrassed and astonished this man got voted back in (and hadn’t been impeached). I have family in the east coast and a close friend who used to work for the government until she retired last year. She was relieved to get out.

But they also don’t want to advertise discontent.

Well that depends on the news outlet. Many do report on it. It’s just not making a difference. The US is being run by a swiftly deteriorating criminal madman and his own party are the only ones able to stop him. And they’re unwilling. We’re all on a runaway train.

Kendodd · 21/01/2026 07:27

Aren't protests all about ICE though? I've seen them. Nothing about Greenland apart from a handful of Greenlanders outside the White House with flags.

sleepwouldbenice · 21/01/2026 09:54

Exactly. Back to the point that many voters really are ignorant about the world stage

They’re likely to be. Many Americans don’t have passports and have never left the country. It’s entirely logical that demonstrators are focussed on ICE, we would be looking inward if there was a similar force threatening us on our streets. We’re fortunate to have the bandwidth to be concerned about geopolitics.

50% of US citizens don’t have passports, 50% do have passports

in comparison to French which is also 50%

Im not convinced that in general uk citizen are any more aware of world wide news than US citizens and it isn't to do with passport ownership.

86% of brits have passports but on world news if you sat a brit next to an American I doubt there would be much difference in world news knowledge.

I think the reason brits have passports is to experience a hot holiday, not widen their world wide view

I think you have to try to understand the constant barrage of protest-worthy things coming at the public. If you're not one of those (mythical) paid full-time protesters, you have to pick and choose, and your neighbours being afraid to take their children to school, never mind getting shot in their cars, is taking precedence for a lot of people.

Also, it's really important with an administration that's desperate for an excuse to impose martial law and/or cancel elections, that protest is deliberate, well-organised and peaceful. Loads of unorganised people getting rowdy in the streets has the potential to go very wrong in the US of 2026, unfortunately.
