Any Americans on here? What is the feeling in America regarding trump?

FedUpWithDilemmas · 17/01/2026 17:46

I've only seen one person talking out against him regarding Greenland. I know this can't be representative to reality. But I wonder what the media is controlling

What's going on in America?

The whole world is impacted by Donald Trump, people are going to have opinions. People in other countries are worried that their kids are going to get drafted into wars that a madman is starting.

I know - I get that! But why is she saying I’m a bad person? Why the personal judgment against me? I didn’t try to invade greenland

LupaMoonhowl · 20/01/2026 05:34

Radiatorvalves · 18/01/2026 07:38

Really? You think he will stop once he’s got Greenland? It will be Canada next then Cuba… and then where? He’s a nasty bully and I think Denmark and the rest of the world must stand up to him. He’s so unpredictable with everything including tariffs that you can’t trust a word he says.

Ridiculous to say that Denmark should ‘stand up to him’.
Yes whilst still relying on the US to protect Europe from Putin.
Like petulant teenagers ‘standing up’ to their parents but still freeloading off them.

mids2019 · 20/01/2026 06:23

I took such a reactionary view about Greenland simply because you could argue Britian should be acting in Brit son's interests. We are utterly reliant on the US for security with a lot of US supplie d equipment and they are a major trading partner so even if we ha he what Trump is doing (yes it's a bit dwranged) i isn't it simply politic to not aid Denamark and loss of the USA?.How would it damage Bri rain if Greenland was in US ha nds?

I don't want my children to grow up in a country with relatively little real defence against foreign threats.

logicisall · 20/01/2026 07:02

I don't want my children to grow up in a country with relatively little real defence against foreign threats.

Does possessing nuclear weapons constitute not count? Wouldn't it be best to want Britain to start untangling itself from dependence of the US and spend more on its own defence?

I can see a future where US 'takes' Greenland under the pretext of providing security and defense services for allies/NATO but then not coming to our aid when needed.

Only a fool the naive will trust the US today. Trump has proven himself to be an unreliable ally, committed to using the miltary/pressure politics to 'win' in scenarios where he, his family and his major donors end up making $$$$$$.

We absolutely have to stand with Denmark and Greenland against in Trump.

LupaMoonhowl · 20/01/2026 07:20

I don’t want my sons to fight for Denmark’s rule over Greenland -you can bet Keir Starmer’s sons won’t be conscripted. Will you be encouraging yours to sign up?
We don’t have the capability to ‘stand up’ to anyone.
Where do you think the soldiers will come from?
We should be grateful that the US is still defending our interests -no reason b why b they should /especially with the visceral
contempt they are getting from the nations they’ve been propping up for 80 years.

logicisall · 20/01/2026 08:10

@LupaMoonhowl . One DC was a 2Lt in the army. His grandfather fought for Canada in WWII. His young cousin has already said that he will go if conscripted. It is a subject that we have seriously discussed as a family recently.

We don’t have the capability to ‘stand up’ to anyone is not unrelated to a lack of interest in joining the armed forces, and tech can only do so much to fill the gap.
Re Europe and Greenland, 'United we stand, divided we fall".

Greenland is not part of Nato though.
The US is not going to invade Denmark.
If the US invaded the Falkland Islands Nato would not come to our aid.

What!? Greenland is sovereign territory of Denmark so is part of NATO since Denmark is part of NATO

You know absolutely nothing about me other than who I voted for in one election.

why are you so unnecessarily judgemental.

why is Mumsnet full of such toxic horrendous people?

You can vote for whoever you want but democracy doesn’t mean that people aren’t allowed to judge you

They are not relying “on the US”. They are relying on the international system mutually agreed by all countries after WWII.
and if US wasn’t openly instigating Ukraine breaking away from Russia’s influence and promising them support back in 2014 maybe nothing would have happened with Putin. Obviously you can see how US reacts when something is happening in its backyard (clue: Venezuela).

also let’s not forget that post WWII it was the US foreign policy to stand up to USSR and to build Marshall program and other programs supporting European states so they would be in the US influence and were politically dependent on the US. And it were US POLICY decisions to be the biggest financial backer of NATO, for the same reasons. Maybe average person or Donald Trump have no memory but some of us studied history (and more than that, I have an undergrad diploma In international relations and international law). So it’s ridiculous to hear these complaints given that it was US policy all along.

also let’s not forget that during WWII the US didn’t provide its help for free. And prior to joining the war (2 years after it’s started) it happily traded with Germany etc

What about US rule over Scotland or the Uk as a whole?

It took the UK until 2006 to pay off the debt.

Imagine if huge oil reserves were discovered in Northern Ireland. Some people in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland would like to unite the island.

Donald Trump - ' The Republic isn't in NATO. It doesn't even have an air force. There are many socialists , environmentalists , feminists in Ireland. Bad people , actually terrible people the worst people, they support Palestine and are all transgender. That oil is vital to US interests. Britain can't defend it because London is under Sharia Law now , it's awful bad and terrible. Obviously Northern Ireland belongs to the USA. They love us and we love them. I even have a golf course there so it makes perfect sense.'

Well fine then 🤷‍♀️
so when people judge those who voted for Trump it has nothing to do with you
why are you reacting this way?

Do you realise how many Danes fought and died alongside the U.S. after 9/11? Your ignorance is astounding

I don’t think it’s likely but most won’t want this. A few on here might as below, but must want to avoid that conflict.

mids2019 · 20/01/2026 11:50

Still stand with Trump is a bit of a nutter but in the real world we need to appease him as we are so interlinked militarily, economically and culturally (add language )

Yes, Denmark loses Greenland and it's an aggregious affront to international law, but......do we want to make a Danish distant barely populated territory a hill to die on geopolitically.

Outrage in public but be prepared to concede Greenland if this remains the only course. Better Greenland than NATO as we are screwed.

Appeasement never works. Ever.

I understand Putin has a hankering for Poland. Should we hand it over?

PocketSand · 20/01/2026 15:22

All political systems that seek to make the rich richer and the poor poorer rely on ideology.

This is very evident in so called democracies. It’s very crude but effective. Populist right wing millionaires with a privileged background gain support from the poor and disadvantaged that helps them electorally due to ideology. If the US thinks constitutional checks and balances will stop the rise of fascism they are deluded. You are already turning a blind eye. Look to Europe. Look to what Trump is doing now. What is the end game?

logicisall · 20/01/2026 15:39

I believe that Trump has two objectives.

He wants to leave a legacy of being the President who achieved what no previous President was able to accomplish ie acquire Greenland.

He wants to enrich his family by tens of billions of dollars.
The legality or morality of the means don't matter to him, only the ends.
