Any Americans on here? What is the feeling in America regarding trump?

I've only seen one person talking out against him regarding Greenland. I know this can't be representative to reality. But I wonder what the media is controlling

What's going on in America?

Back to the question... how can anyone defend his letter to Norway. Incredulous

And how does Trump think that makes him look? I’m not really getting impressive statesman vibes 🙄

TooBigForMyBoots · 19/01/2026 13:25

How does the US get rid of a POTUS who's gone mad?

Indeed. Let's hear the defence of this? I wasn't in favour of Biden hanging on, Trump has smashed the queries on mental health out of the park...

I think the Greenland policy is actually a good idea. It would make both North America and Europe less exposed to any Russian or Chinese threat. It would secure the rare earth minerals for the Anglosphere. The way Trump is going about it is crazy. There is no reason to antagonize Europe. We should have sent people to advocate for this policy with Denmark and arrange some sort of purchase. So the policy makes sense, but the execution is an absolute mess.

I do think many voters will move to the democrats. This is usually how US politics work. One party is in for 8-12 years and then the other party is in for 8-10 years. Party loyalists may be loud, but independent voters outnumber them by a large margin.

  1. Denmark and people of Greenland already made it clear they are not interested
  2. encouraging /instigating secession of territory even via purchase is against current norms of international law (that all countries agreed to)

Can I ask you a question, happened to bump into a British person living in the US but was on holiday back in the uk. She said the democrats are evil. I asked her to name one thing they had done that was evil it got a bit heated. She said English press was giving misinformation. I follow YT the likes of Adam mockler, parkergetajob, think Ben Cohen. Yes they are probably what is called Liberal but the interview Trump followers. I digress, what I wanted to know why did she say they were Evil? how are the democrats portrayed in the US?

@Catpuss66, I think this arises from people living in media bubbles, watching Fox News all day and listening to extremist Podcasts. They absolutely fall down a rabbit hole. If you engage with this kind of media, past stories have been that Democrats support "live birth abortion," where doctors kill the baby as it is born. Or that Hilary Clinton and other top Democrats were part of a paedophile ring. It is all absolutely untrue, total false, but people absolutely believe it.
It is total disinformation.

Reading back posters were asking them questions which they replied to, you did too?

The discussion about men wasn’t directed at that person specifically, it was general. My reply to their leaving strop was the only specific one. This thread isn’t the one for sensitive feelings, I can personally attest to that.

David French, a somewhat conservative former Republican, military veteran and first amendment lawyer, who writes for The New York Times but lives in a small, very conservative town in the south (I think Tennessee), has written and talked quite a lot about this.

He and his wife have essentially been ostracised in their community and church for having adopted a child from Ethiopia and speaking out against Trump. He maintains that most of the people he comes in contact with there live in a partisan bubble that casts Democrats as literal evil. He says they have very little knowledge of things that Trump actually does.

I saw a discussion thread on social media recently that was asking christians what they could possibly see in Trump that aligned to christian values. I am not religious, but was interested in what they’d have to say.

There were reams of absolutely delusional, crazy responses. Stuff about him being sent from god to them as their king and saviour to lead them out of the darkness, etc. So there’s certainly multiple versions of brainwashing. I’m sure there are plenty of absolutely sane christians where Trump is involved, but they were beyond crazy.

simpsonthecat · 19/01/2026 16:28

Trump is so irreligious it's untrue!

Last term, he was holding the Bible upside down outside some church or other. He was asked on record to name his favourite book in the Bible. Couldn't name any so said he liked them all.
And now he's selling a Trump bible saying it's the only Bible endorsed by Trump.

Thanks for your reply now that makes sense I was wondering had we been fed different portrayal of the dems. I just thought that was MAGA thought process, seems it might be true of the Trump administration, well according to Epstein files well bits we can see.
let’s hope Republicans that know the difference between right & wrong join forces & save the US & the world. Sending hugs

Trump doesn’t actually want the midterms to go ahead, he floated the idea of cancelling them and then said something along the lines of ‘’but I won’t suggest it because the fake news will call me a dictator’’. It’s clearly something he’s considered!

Zelensky put the thought into his mind when he accused him of not having elections he explained they couldn’t whilst they were at war. This gave Trump the thought of trying to goad the population into civil war then he could postpone the elections until ‘the war’ is over. This is why Tim Walz is saying do not use violence because this is what he wants…midterms are the only way to make him lose power.

American here 👋

hmm how do I feel? It’s a good question - and I think out of all political commentators I resonate with Bill Maher the most. I’m a liberal who has been let down by the democrats who went so far left it was insanity and Donald trump was the product of that. Whilst I didn’t vote for him (nor did I vote for Harris) I see why people did. To be honest I didn’t vote Harris because I couldn’t see what I was voting for?? Trump on the other hand offered action and he has - for good or bad - lived up to that. He said he would deal with illegal migrants and he is deporting them as opposed to past presidents from both sides who have just let it slide. I think after 4 years of absolute nothingness and skyrocketing prices people wanted something, anything and he offers that.

do I liken him no? Do I see why people do? Yes.

do I think the people of the UK need to concentrate on what’s going on in their own country? Very much yes! (I live in the UK)

I think why the uk feels more at risk. Most Americans have very little understanding of WW2. I was born in the 60’s think they only lifted rationing in 1954. The hardship & loss was felt more by the UK & Europe that’s why you have little understanding on how bad war can be. You had very little damage of your country in WW2 we had whole cities bombed, Coventry had to be completely rebuilt.
so you were an independent voter that let him in, I think history will judge you harshly.

Catpuss66 · 19/01/2026 17:54

YourGoldSquid · 18/01/2026 10:52

Perhaps.

But honestly, Americans were tired of NATO countries not spending 2% of GDP on defense. Tired of shitty trade deals with China and the rest of Asia. So yeah, a lot of Americans appreciate Trump telling allies to live up to their agreements. A lot of Americans are actually bothered that UK citizens can't speak freely without getting the cops involved. Frankly, it seems almost anti-British. So do they respond well when Vance tells the UK to get its free speech shit together? Yes. I'm not suggesting this is correct or right. But Americans are very aware of what happens in the UK. And it disturbs them because, to many Americans, the UK and America are brothers. We are natural allies. We embrace the same political philsophy unlike those damned French and Germans. :)

So when Americans see the shit said about JK Rowling, or see that someone is detained for not wanting dick in the ladies room, it pisses them off. Maybe it is none of their concern. But there is genuine concern this is happening in the UK -- the beacon of free speech. We all ask ourselves, how do we prevent this kind of thing in America. Luckily, the first amendment helps here.

Not sure what free speech you think is being curtailed. Inciting violence isn’t free speech. Most uk citizens don’t want riots on the street, which happened once with the help of musk dipping his oar in, helping to protect women & girls until it affected his business told had to stop displaying harmful images of women without consent. Him & men like him have made women around the world unsafe.

I agree
And going back to the list of things the US are worried about, most of it (free speech, no go areas in London, arrests over trans rights) is just rubbish or at best exaggerated
We have concerns too about the US ( gun violence, storming the Capitol, shooting people in the face, abortion rights, banning books, banning media outlets...)
But on the whole I say its your country and you voted for it so leave you to it
But when you interfere elsewhere? Line overstepped, trust gone
I mean he can't be trusted can he? He's using tariffs agreements to try to justify / force taking over another country!
I do agree about Nato £ and some aspects. But lets not pretend the US doesn't benefit from Nato extensively..

As I say the trust is broken. I dont want to see it mended. I would prefer a new Alliance with Europe, commonwealth countries and others with similar.. values at the end of it..

I would like to see America back as a friend & ally but it will take time to built trust, & no sign a Trump to be left behind. Any trace of him should wiped away like a poo mark.

I agree Trump is a bit of a dick but he is not hitler. This is about narcissism and mineral rights.

I just feel if Trump is determined to get Greenland should this be a hill we did on in support of Denmark and it's sovreignty of an arctic territory where historically the native people have not been treated well. (I don't remember swarms of European nations coming to our aid during the Falkands war as well.)

we are too intertwined with the U.S. to make support of the Danes a priority and as a sovereign state is it up to the Danes to defend their territory? Maybe it is time for the Danes to make the deal because what other alternative is there?

And if he starts taking more countries? Jesus fucking christ.

How dare you!! Democracy means I can vote for whoever the hell I want so you can take your judgement and shove it. I had my reasons for voting the way I did and I do not have to justify myself to you.

i voted independent in a blue fucking state that I knew would never vote red but I wanted my voice heard that the American people deserve a decent third option. So if you think I ‘let him in’ you could not be more wrong and you need to educate yourself on the American electoral college.

your judgment of something that has nothing to do with you sucks.

& there we go you just showed who you are.
Even judge Judy voted blue & she was a lifelong republican she knew what was coming.

There is stuff appearing online that Trump wants Greenland as a Praxis Nation

which would make the idea of him being so adamant that he wants Greenland.

reasons of National security don’t make sense as USA have left bases on Greenland. The mineral wealth is decades away, as still the infrastructure needs to be built to deal with the minerals

can get rid of the indigenous people, make life difficult for them

a utopian vision for rich oligarchs

they can build a nation as they want and require

then who cares if USA has failed, left bankrupt

That could be done in Wyoming, and pay off the locals with the same amount being offered to the Greenlanders. There are fewer proportionately living in Wyoming than in Greenland, and no ice to crush either.
