I've only seen one person talking out against him regarding Greenland. I know this can't be representative to reality. But I wonder what the media is controlling

What's going on in America?

@MikeRafone Thank you for the (scary) links.

If you were to read a novel about a Praxis like state run by rich MEN with a futuristic hedonistic law free set up, it would read like science fiction.

I don't know what to believe, but I've no doubt that the only visible parts of the oligarchic ducks we see are their heads. Meanwhile below the water line all kinds of machinations are going on and we know nothing about them really. The Praxis Project is probably just one of many.....

You know absolutely nothing about me other than who I voted for in one election.

why are you so unnecessarily judgemental.

why is Mumsnet full of such toxic horrendous people?

How dare you!! Democracy means I can vote for whoever the hell I want so you can take your judgement and shove it. I had my reasons for voting the way I did and I do not have to justify myself to you.

i voted independent in a blue fucking state that I knew would never vote red but I wanted my voice heard that the American people deserve a decent third option. So if you think I ‘let him in’ you could not be more wrong and you need to educate yourself on the American electoral college.

your judgment of something that has nothing to do with you sucks.

Democracy means that you can vote for whoever you want. It doesn't mean you're free from consequences or judgement of your vote.

...I wanted my voice heard...
Are you being heard by the Trump administration? What are you telling them?

we are too intertwined with the U.S. to make support of the Danes a priority and as a sovereign state is it up to the Danes to defend their territory? Maybe it is time for the Danes to make the deal because what other alternative is there?

uk is part of NATO, an attack on one is an attack on all - of the nation asks for help article 5

Greenland is not part of Nato though.
The US is not going to invade Denmark.
If the US invaded the Falkland Islands Nato would not come to our aid.

Of course Greenland is part of NATO. It's part of NATO in the same way that Scotland is.

@FiftyniftystatesI am not being judgemental about you, but right now people are extremely upset to put it mildly about Donald Trump and the US. I’m 70, my older siblings were born when WWII rationing was still in force. All the adults around me growing up had fought in/lived through the war. Following that, with the formation of NATO our politicians and everyone in the UK regarded the US as a friendly state, one we could rely on in the same way that the US relied on us after 9/11, being the only NATO country to invoke article 5 and expect all the countries to support them, which we did, including Denmark.
We have been used to seeing Russia and China as expansionist with no respect for other country’s boundaries, in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Ukraine.
America used to present itself as the protector of smaller countries, and I understand if this is not how you/ your government wish to promote yourself now. We didn’t ever foresee the day when the US would attempt either invade or bully another country into capitulation. Trump is no better than Putin, it’s no wonder they get on well. Trump wants to add to the number of states and make a grab for all of Greenland’s rare earth minerals. There are plenty of ways Greenland could be made safe for the US without invasion and demand for the land.
I can’t see why you don’t understand why so many people would be angry, especially as you say you are living over here.
I don’t care which way you vote, in the past or the future, but you have to know that Europe including the UK will never trust the US again in living memory.

Yes. I get it. But you can’t put all the blame on me. It’s not my fault. I didn’t make this happen.

@FiftyniftystatesIm not and I don’t , but people take things very personally on these boards. All I’m saying is, that’s the way it will be for a long time now, after these threats.

Greenland is not part of Nato though.
The US is not going to invade Denmark.
If the US invaded the Falkland Islands Nato would not come to our aid.

If Argentina attacked the Falklands,
NATO would not have been automatically obligated to intervenebecause the islands are south of the Tropic of Cancer, outside NATO's Article 5's geographical scope (Europe/North America). While the UK is a member, the Falklands are a British Overseas Territory, not a NATO member state, so Article 5 wasn't triggered; however, individual NATO members (like the US, France, Chile) provided crucial logistical, intelligence, and diplomatic support to the UK, making it a de facto NATO-aligned conflict without formal alliance action.
Why NATO Wasn't Formally Involved:

  • Geographic Limitation: Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty defines an attack on one as an attack on all, but specifically for territories in Europe or North America, north of the Tropic of Cancer.

https://dcubrexitinstitute.eu/2025/01/what-happens-if-trump-invades-greenland/

its not as straight forward as Greenland isn’t in NATO, as it is aligned with Denmark and geographically in the correct space for nato to help

How"s that worked out for you?

It’s worked out exactly as if I had voted for anyone else.

if I had voted democrat- no change, my state voted democrat majority
if I had voted republican- no change my state voted democrat majority

If your options in the next election were reform or your party would you not want another option?

I voted independent because I wanted/ hoped votes to show that there is an appetite in America for a third party. Does that really make me ‘not a nice person’ as the other poster posted? Really a reason to judge me, bully me and gang up on me?

Maybe your vote will be successful.

The Republican Party is failing to protect the American people. Despite having a Republican POTUS, a majority in both Houses, and on the SCOTUS.

Trump is inflicting domestic and global chaos. I don't think the Republican Party will be able to survive it. So hopefully, with the split, US voters will get more choice in the future.

The whole world is impacted by Donald Trump, people are going to have opinions. People in other countries are worried that their kids are going to get drafted into wars that a madman is starting.

My longstanding MP doesn't take his seat in the HoC. Every GE I vote for whoever may be able to unseat him in my constituency.

So my voice gets heard.

I have been voting for more than 30 years. Parliamentary, Devolved Assembly, local council, MEP, referendums. I've even voted in foreign elections when I lived abroad.

I cast my vote to make changes, sometimes massive changes. My vote has benefited my society.

Has yours?

Fiftyniftystates · 20/01/2026 05:21

you havnt said who you voted for….

so you vote tactically to try and make an impact, that’s what I did. Did it work? No. Doesn’t make a bad person though - this is the point I’m trying to make. Being told I’m not a nice person

and that’s great you’ve voted in so many elections. Not sure what that has to do with anything though.
