Trump taking over Greenland?

Cantonet · 06/01/2026 10:50

Will anyone stop him?
What will Nato do?
What will Denmark do?
Are there plans in motion to stop this other than friendly diplomacy & gentle words?

Waiting to hear the usual Trumpists argue that Greenland deserves to be liberated from their terrible dictator.

Luddite26 · 06/01/2026 22:29

Maybe some other US politicians may think it's too far and get the orange one out. Maybe someone in the US could grow a pair.

Waiting to hear the usual Trumpists argue that Greenland deserves to be liberated from their terrible dictator.

My Trumpian American friend says that Greenland needs saving from Putin. So imaginary dictators now count.

There’s a great Terry Pratchett piece:

“Shoot the dictator and prevent the war?
But the dictator is merely the tip of the whole festering boil of social pus from which dictators emerge; shoot one, and there’ll be another one along in a minute.
Shoot him too? Why not shoot everyone and invade Poland?
In fifty years’, thirty years’, ten years’ time the world will be very nearly back on its old course. History always has a great weight of inertia.”
— Terry Pratchett (often attributed to Lords and Ladies)

Trump is pretending to stop Putin by being Putin. I think it’s all a spheres of influence thing with Putin getting Europe, China getting Asia and Trump the Americas. No one wants poor Africa (I might relocate to Botswana or Malawi).

I'm stating the obvious here
He's a fucking maniac.
He was always going to be worse second time round.
His antics of late are scary AF.

He needs stopping. No idea how anyone could go about it. At the minute I think he’s more terrifying than Putin. Why had there been no condemnation of his invasion of Venezuela?

I agree - at least with Putin there is a degree of predictability.

BreakingBroken · 06/01/2026 22:37

the people of greenland are fully aware of what could be done both industrially and environmentally they should make up their own mind.

even with venezuela none of the oil giants or mining giants are stepping forth and since the american government isn't an oil or mining company they can claim all they want BUT it won't make it happen. i sincerely doubt any of the oil companies are investing in venezuela today, this month, or in the next 3 years. burned once twice shy.

Rewis · 06/01/2026 22:43

They already have a military base there, why not just negotiate expansion. I'm also a bit unsure on what attack on greenland would look like. There is nothing to attack there. Basically usa could show up and declare that they will take over and Denmark will either do something or more likely, won't.

we could just use our nukes, the uk the wildcard

Quite and then what? In your expert military strategic opinion?

if we actually had to use them, then before we did activate all our bunkers, for the leaders etc and then when the ash settles, we begin rebuilding, humanity overall will survive it will just alter the global order.

  1. Trump isn't going to get a second term. He is trying to leave a legacy, because why not in his mind. He has nothing to lose, people here already hate him.
  2. The US is headed into a recession, and military spending will go against that. War = military spend.
  3. Could it be yet another distraction from the Epstein files??? Yeah.

That would be wonderful. The UK/Australian systems that allow for replacement of elected politicians don't stand in the US though. Short of impeaching a president I don't think there is a way. We're only 1/4 of the way into this.

Trump is like a 1980s Hollywood tycoon with a big cigar, frozen in aspic. He sees the world as a giant Monopoly board for him to conquer and build hotels on. He has a massive boner for the sort of open imperialism that the rest of the world (apart from Israel) is trying to move on from. His grasp of diplomacy is laughable. He thinks “ ending a war” means giving a big press conference in which he simply announces that it’s all over; he has no understanding of, and no interest in, the months of hard, skilled diplomatic work that need to precede such an announcement. Even his military showboating is painfully dated and out of touch; for example, he is spaffing huge amounts of money on enormous “Trump class” warships that will be of no practical use whatsoever and will be used for target practice.

The best we can hope for from Trump is that he suffers some sort of massive medical event that puts him out of politics for good. It’s looking not unlikely 🤞

Big heart attack. Fingers crossed. Or dementia - which maybe explains a lot already.

Lonelycrab · 06/01/2026 23:01

Trump is fucking insane now

I do hope all you reform voters can now see what you’re aligning yourselves to

BreakingBroken · 06/01/2026 23:05

oh exciting news!! If i read this right...
Trump is after the Bella 1, now that would be exciting to watch.
it's a shadow fleet oil tanker from V heading to Russia previously had a Guyana flag but recently switched to Russian. It was off Ireland yesterday and now in British waters. Negotiations ongoing the US wants the tanker, UK and Denmark don't want it touched but we all know Trump has balls.

I read some of the daily mail comments regarding this story
So many wanting Starmer removed by force by Trump.
Hopefully it's bots because that is not how democracy works.
It's scary to think there's people out there with that mind set.

Well if Trump were to do to the UK what he did to Venezuela (pluck out the leader and the deputy/vice steps in), we’d have David Lammy in charge.

me too, but sometimes its the gamble our intelligence services take when trying to keep the public and society safe from those nukes being launched etc and sometimes that means making deals with the devil to ensure the world survives

All the talk about unsurping leaders ,taking over countries is very disconcerting.
It's all about the Dollars for Trump and his kind.
He doesn't give two fucks about humanity.
Making noise about saving Nigerian Christians would that even be on his radar if there wasn't oil to be had.
