Trump taking over Greenland?

Cantonet · 06/01/2026 10:50

Will anyone stop him?
What will Nato do?
What will Denmark do?
Are there plans in motion to stop this other than friendly diplomacy & gentle words?

I don't think he's insane either. Just delusional, spoilt all his life, surrounded by yes people and very VERY arrogant.

The American politician's wife plastering a USA flag on Greenland sums today's America up to me. No decency, no regard for others, shameless, brazen, brash, charmless and completely unaware of their limitations and lack of decorum. America and Trump are blunt instruments.

Iceshine · 06/01/2026 21:15

I saw they was a huge meeting to day in paris, not a clue what it was about.
Not a clue whats going on.
I dont understand any of it, like none of it.

What i do know is uk has a pm that is ruining us and the UK.
Hes done nothing but make us worse off, and puts his own people at the bottom of the list.
Usa has a mad man power gone to his head, hittler the second.
Trumps acting like he wants to rule the world.

We are in dangerous times.
Could there be ww3 maybe, its like you can see whats going to happen.

PerpetualBurnout · 06/01/2026 21:17

He reminds me of veruca salt. He’s so entitled and deranged.

Kiki234 · 06/01/2026 21:17

I find it interesting that people keep referring to Trump as the sole power behind this. There are the world billionaires that are in support of Trump along side his cabinet. He is not the one making the decisions but is the face of it all. We need a massive overhaul of the so-called "democracy" that we live in

TheMerryJoker · 06/01/2026 21:18

why should we waste time effort and resouces when we have russia to deal with ?

lemonraspberry · 06/01/2026 21:19

Trump is a greedy man who will not want to negotiate a larger US presence on Greenland. He only wants what is best for him and then America and will use force to get what he wants without really thinking about the consequences. Bit like Putin in fact.

Starmer so out of his depth on how to handle this it is laughable.

Everyone is out of their depth with how to handle him - what would you do?

In fairness to Starmer, and any other leader, the world is not equipped for the US deciding their new foreign policy is “we’ll have what we want and fuck you”.

What is anyone going to do?
Negotiate? With lunatics like Miller around that isn’t likely.
Fight? Well we bought a lot of our military equipment from them and they have kill switches for some of it, as the first comment on the thread alluded to.
Sanctions? What would they care about, that wouldn’t also massively hurt the world economy?

We could take his Scottish golf course I suppose.

suburberphobe · 06/01/2026 21:27

Europe might turn against the US..

You must be very young....

US saved Europe from the Nazis. (My parents went through it).

Anyway, this is about Greenland. Trump is scary and off his rocker

You are right, you don’t have a clue. It’s its very obvious.

GasperyJacquesRoberts · 06/01/2026 21:29

Maybe America just needs a bit more space to live in. Living space, if you will. I'm sure the Germans had a word for that.

Are you saying that you think Europe won’t ever turn against the US, because of WW2?

Do you also think the rest of Europe hates Germany because of the war?

MagpiePi · 06/01/2026 21:31

I heard an interesting interview on the radio this evening- R5Live, don’t know who was speaking.
So, the USA has a military base on Greenland already and could ship in as many troops as they want as they have an existing agreement. They could also re-open the 16 or so bases that they have there, so there are no significant reasons or barriers to them having a big military presence there for defence.
Also, Greenland is desperate to exploit their mineral resources and have offered mining rights to the USA/China etc., but it is an inhospitable climate with little infrastructure so extracting minerals would be expensive.
The guy talking thought that one possibility is that Trump wants to be one of the few presidents who has expanded USA territory, and that’s why he wants to ‘own’ Greenland.

Well i think war should start that should solve some of it.
Then all these big leaders can show off who has the better army.
The uk would be an embarrassment to us all.

We are all out our depth tbh we are the little people, we have our say on forms like this.
Because we are nothing to them in power.

Im not sure people are expecting the uk to have a say or be a big player. We are trying to work out whats happening around us.

On the mining, Greenland does want to make sure any mining is done with strict environmental protections. So that may also have been why deals with foreign companies didn’t go ahead. If the US owned it, they could ignore all that.
