If you are a Remainer who believes Britain needs to be part of the EU, can you just explain which country was the most powerful in the world in the 1800s?

@BillieWiper , only a teensy weensy little bit. That William Pitt the Younger is bloomin' useless isn't he. Time we got a new PM. That French president has far better ideas.

Catpiece · 29/11/2025 13:51

That was rather a long time ago mate

Bit of help for you OP, we're in the 2000s not 1800s. The world has changed.

SerendipityJane · 29/11/2025 14:34

The OP probably gores on club 1832 holidays.

And fuck York. Everybody knows the real capital of Britain is Colchester.

You are a 'not right' if you dont know the reasons people don't agree with brexit

YYYDlilah · 29/11/2025 14:38

For most of us Waterloo is an underground station or Abba's Eurovision winner.

Ottoman Empire was big and strong.

OP - you are absolutely correct. As we return to ruling the world like it's 1800 I would also like to vote for:

  • getting the kids out to work up chimneys,
  • owning some slaves,
  • getting an operation done with only rudimentary anaesthetic,
  • looking forward to a nice case of typhus,
  • losing an arm in the factory on a 16 hour shift, and
  • not actually having a vote

Let’s not forget that the age of consent was 12 until 1875, and that you could buy a child for sex very easily and cheaply.

Powerful?

oh it’s you again

being powerful and strong isn’t a particular goal of mine

being happy, being honest good and fair, those are my goals for the population of this county

not strong , not powerful, but happy and healthy

so I don’t give a shiny about what countries were powerful in the past - I care about what countries have happy healthy populations now and it turns out it isn’t related to being strong and powerful -which I could phrase as being aggressive and violent. Those are not traits I admire in people or countries.

i don’t want to be stronger than my neighbours- I want us all to get along and play nicely

and oddly enough - that approach seems to be to the benefit of everyone

instead of being greedy and wanting it all - which breeds hatred and violence and destruction - we actually all end up better off if we are more cooperative as that breeds joy and growth
