Great Britain was due to its global empire, naval dominance and the start of the Industrial Revolution. So what? We no longer have a global empire or naval dominance and industry has been in decline for decades. We need to be part of the EU more than ever.

Given that the U.K. was fighting wars against the French for most of the C19, rather than trading freely & co-opeating industrially & militarily with them (ever heard of Airbus?), I fail to understand the relevance of your question, OP. To anything…
