I didn’t say that either.

But seeing as 2/3 candidates ran a respectful, dignified campaign, I think it’s fair to say personality does come into it.

But you’re clearly not here to have a reasoned debate so take your misogynistic approach and fuck off.

No, I won't fucking shush.

knitnerd90 · 05/11/2025 07:49

Oh I forgot no man has ever voted for a politician based on personality, that’s a lady problem. All those Trump men did it based on a careful consideration of policy. 🙄

I’m happy to hear this! I don’t know much about bum but I do know my ex used to get these fancy business breakfasts with Cuomo so of course he’s probably punching the air in disappointment right now therefore its great for me that his opponent won haha

Seriously though it sounds as if Mamdami is a bit of an outsider and has some good policies. Well done NYC.

Seethe? No, I don't respond to deliberate goading. You aren't worth the energy.

Edited

That was meant to say I don’t know much about him 😂 not bum. Excuse the typos. Slightly sleep deprived lol

Tigerbalmshark · 05/11/2025 07:57

@LeggyGiraffe if you don’t feel that your feeble lady-brain can cope with voting, nobody is forcing you to. Not much point posting on politics threads though, if you feel it all goes over your head/makes you over-emotional.

East coast metropolitan bubble of sanity, but a nice reminder that some people are resistant to Trump and want to give him the finger.
Saying this will ruffle feathers for many, but it's just like Londoners who have elected Sadiq Khan three times in succession while the rest of the country seem to hate him. As a Londoner, it gets my goat when people from outside London have such strong opinions on him. He's not your Mayor.

Exactly! Love our Mayor 💛

The right wing racists in the shires can seriously jog on. Nobody wants to hear their small minded bollox.

@LeggyGiraffe just curious whether you think there are any other demographic groups of adults who should be deprived of the franchise?

MagpiePi · 05/11/2025 08:01

So men always cast their vote based on hard headed facts? Yeah, right 🙄

Nocknick · 05/11/2025 08:01

They’re utterly ridiculous 🤭 if by Trumps “abrasiveness” they mean not apologising for saying things like “grab em by the pussy”, him, calling developing countries “shitholes” and hurling insults at politicians and citizens who don’t support him, while rushing to pardon violent insurrectionists who he failed to adequately condemn then yes - I think we have judged him by substance.

The “over-emotional” hysterical ones are MAGA. They idolise Trump in a way that people did not idolise Biden or even Obama. It’s embarrassing. People with so called conservative family values supporting this man who speaks so crudely, has been linked to sex workers and is on his third marriage. What a joke.

MagpiePi · 05/11/2025 08:04

I do hope that Mamdani will do a good job and I wonder how Trump is going to deal with him.

LilyCanna · 05/11/2025 08:04

Shame this thread’s been derailed. The point I was trying to make is that he’s a very very good communicator of who he is and what he wants to do (and so many politicians are surprisingly bad at that). But now he’s in office he’ll face lots of challenges and they’ll still be gunning for him. I wish him luck and hope for more like him rising up the Democratic Party.

Trump will be as racist as ever and make vile personal attacks. His supporters will lap it up.

It seems quite a few democrat politicians had success this week. Fingers crossed the force continues.

I did find it funny that in one county there were MAGA cult members losing their minds about the fact that the polls weren’t open, accusing them of not allowing them to vote etc… because their elections are next year

Nat172 · 05/11/2025 08:15

Immigrants vote for immigrants. The vast majority of those born in NYC didn’t vote for him. The vast majority of those who arrived in the last 5 years did.

It’s the same with London and other large immigrant cities. I don’t think it reflects much on the wider national voter base.

I do however feel sorry for the Jewish population in NYC.

Iwanttoliveinagardencentre · 05/11/2025 08:15

My first thought was that trump (intentional small T) will be out for his blood and this young man is in a lot of danger. Very probably even physical danger.
I admire his courage because he must have known this from the start.
I hope (but don’t really expect) that other brave Americans step up when he is inevitably attacked with dirty tricks and weaponising the law which has pretty much become trump’s personal instrument of revenge.
