He’s amazing!!! Loved his campaign videos!

Radiatorvalves · 05/11/2025 07:14

His victory and the other democratic wins are such good news. But Trump is spitting bricks… I fear he will continue to dismantle democracy with the aim of cancelling next years mid terms. Hopefully I will be wrong and Mamdani and co will inspire the country to stand up to trump.

Fizzlepopper · 05/11/2025 07:17

East coast metropolitan bubble of sanity, but a nice reminder that some people are resistant to Trump and want to give him the finger.
Saying this will ruffle feathers for many, but it's just like Londoners who have elected Sadiq Khan three times in succession while the rest of the country seem to hate him. As a Londoner, it gets my goat when people from outside London have such strong opinions on him. He's not your Mayor.

knitnerd90 · 05/11/2025 07:18

i’m meh on Mamdani (I live near DC though). But the opponents were terrible. I don’t think it’s as nationally significant as some want it to be. The moderate/liberal governors in Virginia and new Jersey mean more.

overall it looks like the GOP got a drubbing in a lot of local elections.

WeCouldBeNiceToEachOther · 05/11/2025 07:19

So very happy.

Also very happy that a few states have voted on their own versions of prop 50, in response to Texas.

LilyCanna · 05/11/2025 07:23

Glad he won, his campaigning was so impressive - totally focused and yet seeming charming and genuine. Never seen a politician pull it off like that. But now the difficult bit, fingers crossed for him!

I think you will find outside the right wing froth of social media most people outside London are somewhere between who and indifferent about Khan.

Edited to spell his name right 🙄

Khan is the Mayor of the capital of this country, not the Mayor of Much Binding in the Marsh and, as such, everyone in the country is entitled to have an opinion.

AmyDuPlantier · 05/11/2025 07:31

Aw yes this is such good news!

Being personable is actually a large part of politics.

As it goes, I’m not in NYC, but I liked his policies. But to get people to listen to those policies, you must connect with them. Which Mamdani did incredibly well.

Of course they’re entitled to have an opinion. But it’s largely irrelevant because they’re not the people voting for him.

That’s not what I said at all.

You have to be able to connect with people to allow them to listen to your policies.

Pharazon · 05/11/2025 07:36

Bet Sadiq Khan will be breathing a sigh of relief. Presumably all the US rightwing commentators who inexplicably have it in for the mayor of a city in a different country thousands of miles away will give him a break and turn on Mamdani instead.

Unescorted · 05/11/2025 07:36

@LeggyGiraffe you mean like people voting for Trump and Farage even when it is contra to their own best interests. Sucked in by populist quicksilver smiles.

In that case it is not a gender issue you have... Voting demographics show they both had a larger male voting base.It sounds like a critical thinking issue.
