Trump has called in federal military troops into Washington DC, starting with the false excuse of high crime (the crime rate has actually dropped markedly), and is ordering things that appear to be illegal. It looks like a lead-in to martial law. I've been in a forum with everyone posting in mounting concern.

Chicago I've seen it first hand the Cook County attorney general changing the definition and threshold of what counts as crime to reduce the number of people being charged so we ended up with high crime, people robbing stores and businesses knowing that even if they are arrested they will not be charged and will be released soon after.

We've had this recurring issue where groups of bikers gather and start riding around doing stupid dangerous illegal stuff, riding on sidewalks dangerously, ignoring red lights etc and yet the police has been unable to do anything because the mayor has given guidelines on how to deal with it which includes not chasing so it gets worse very summer.

Liberals judges keep releasing criminals so we end up with lots of repeat offenders all driven by woke liberal policies from Democrats.

How many criminals have been arrested for killing and we find out they've actually been arrested multiple times with consequences?????

And even if they are caught the district attorney will release them and rinse repeat so YES Democrats love and prioritize criminals over law abiding citizens.

Brandon Johnson is useless and the worst mayor Chicago has ever had and that's aging something, he has the worst rating of any mayor and is one mayor I have seen that is hated by literally every voting block in Chicago, his answer to every criticism is it's because he is black 😂

The reason why Trump admires the war criminal and dictator Putin is that he envies the total control that Putin has. He would love to be in similar position where every order, threat and ultimatum he issues has to be obeyed.

He would love to have the same " free" elections that Putin holds where he apparently wins 95% of the vote. He also wants to treat his enemies the way Putin does, with utter contempt.

It's bluntly obvious he's no intention of stepping aside after his term. Plunging ratings approaching mid terms all this stuff that is happening is an attempt to rig the election. Masked ICE operations taking people from the streets and the threat of these operatives guarding polling stations will scare many from voting. Threatening to redraw state lines....again manipulation of an election.

Here is the thing he needs to refinance 3 trillion dollars worth of debt by December but with interest rates at 4.5% he can't do it. Inflation is now rampant and jobless totals are rising while is popularity is plunging....his answer arrests for staff at the federal reserve. He wants to control the interest rates....which is spooking bond investments.

It's quite concerning, in the context of this regime, that prison numbers in the US are falling considerably - apparently younger people just aren't being arrested at anything like the rate of young people in previous decades so as older prisoners die or are released there's no one coming in. And prisons are Big Business in America.

I can see prison management companies complaining to this government they haven't got enough prisoners, so they need there to be more crimes and this lot would happily wave through prison for homlessness, protesting, criticising the government, made-up 'racism' against white people - anything they like basically. It's a bad combo.

(I'm just reading through now, so don't yet know if the replies will be mostly concerned/interested or mostly "So what?") I was really horrified when I heard the news, but later thought, well, maybe I shouldn't have posted it.

Second, @ZippyTheZebra, there are very specific rules/laws about the use of military, and some of what Trump has in mind is illegal, because some parts of the military are forbidden to use against American citizens. But beyond that, although there have been cases, rarely, they have been in situations where the force seemed necessary. In this case, there is no emergency, despite Trump's pretending there is. (I think the last time troops were sent in was a half-century ago to protect black citizens against racist violence.)

Third, as to his end goal - personally, I think his goal is martial law.

Very true, but if you really wanted to take the extraordinary step of sending in the military, wouldn't it make more sense to send it to the worst offender?

Also, there is the additional problem that Trump frames it untruthfully - and has been additionally lying with other comparisons. It might have been very different if he'd said instead: I know that crime has been falling, but it's still disgracefully high considering this is our nation's capital, so I'm going to be meeting with the mayor to discuss whether it might be helpful to send in federal troops.

Right, that's one reason I post about it - maybe the UK can learn from the cautionary tale of the US.
