Non-mandatory cards have been attempted multiple times and failed to be adopted, do you think now is the time to make them mandatory?

No - watch this and you might think twice about agreeing to this https://x.com/benonwine/status/1972731956992581729?s=48

These examples illustrate the extremes that could occur but it is important to note that they could all happen with the current methods of identification, although having a Digital ID would make it much easier.

It is evident that the Home Office is unable to identify the estimated 1 million plus people in the UK who are illegally present. This may explain why only 8,164 forcible returns were made in 2024.

With net legal migration now four and a half times that of the net birth rate and the number of irregular asylum seekers increasing by 38% this year, we are likely to see a huge increase in the number of people here illegally.

Can you suggest a viable alternative to Digital ID to help detect and process these individuals?

Can you describe how digital ID would do this?

Can you describe how digital ID would do this?

A) Ability to analyse the data structure that are linked to an individual, with AI, from a common unique identifier, for example.

  • Tax and pensions
  • Immigration status
  • Criminal record
  • Healthcare
  • Banking
  • Land registry
  • Council tax
  • Border crossing
  • Driving licence
  • Passport

B) Increased expectation that you should be able to reliably identify yourself when interacting with authorities, business and individuals.

C) A greater accountability, and make it less attractive to remain in the UK illegally.

D) Over time an ID system would make the UK less attractive as a destination, as you're more likely to be detected,

It might make some employers less inclined to employ people illegally but I think it will be marginal.

We may not like it, and it probably won't be with this Government but it will be implemented at some point in some form.
