Unbelievable (but not unexpected).

Nah, I've just remembered that 'You don't have to attend every argument you're invited to', especially with people who are just being rude and unpleasant. So I'll say toodle-pip.

I'll just leave you with a question of how many of these Muslim rioters ended up with jail time? They tried to batter down a pub door, frightening the people inside, damaged cars, attacked journalists.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1jll4rk7w5o

They were charged, but no link in the bbc article to a court appearance or jail time. No mug shot.

I honestly don't know, because they seem to have disappeared from the media, with no outcome mentioned. Remember how justice needs to be seen to be done? If they did get an equal penalty, then it needs to be shown.

You really should read before you post.

And you really should engage with the substance of what is being said instead of being snide about obvious minor mistypings.

Won't make you feel so superior of course.

You really didn't read that article (which I did) did you ? Even though you posted the link.

Didn't look very hard, did you? It took me all of 20 seconds to find this via a Google search. Don't have time to look further right now, but hmm, 20 months jail sentence. Doesn't sound very "two tier" to me.

https://www.westmidlands.police.uk/news/west-midlands/news/news/2024/september/man-jailed-for-involvement-in-bordesley-green-disorder/

If you want to see justice being done, perhaps you need to actually look, as opposed to making up rubbish.

Oh look, another one jailed - found in another 10 seconds - https://www.westmidlands.police.uk/news/west-midlands/news/news/2025/may/man-jailed-for-violent-disorder-last-summer/

There's some evidence from me. Still waiting for yours.

You know I said I read the article ?

I lied.

I knew it would in no way underpin what previous posters thought it would. Thank you for taking your time to point that out.

strawberrybubblegum · 19/08/2025 15:01

I'm very glad they went to jail. Pity the national media didn't report it.

As people keep saying, justice needs to be seen to be done. Hiding it in an attempt not to inflame community tension backfires.

You didn't bother taking in any information and just superciliouslying lied instead?

What a surprise.

And a waste of time.

You know I said I lied ? I lied about that too.

Of course I read the link you provided. I mean what sort of blithering idiot would engage in a grown up debate and then deny themselves any more information in it's prosecution ?

I read it, and within the first 3 paragraphs realised it was in no way comparable with a disorder which was nationwide (so not constrained to a single location or incident) and in which the community leaders involved actually stepped in to prevent it escalating in almost the exact same way none of the rioters praised with faint apathy by LC did.

It's not reported in the BBC article, but the community leaders went on to identify people who had been part of the disorder. Again in exactly the same way the rioter ringleaders didn't (until they had gentle words from the police in private).

I am not interested in your "fun" bunfight here. You have repeatedly said that there is a two tier system, that "everyone knows that", and that there is loads of evidence of that.

You have been asked to provide that evidence.

I have just provided you with evidence that people you suggested were not treated in the same way, in fact were, and were jailed. It is not the job of the national media (who did in fact report it) to throw information at your feet - you are obliged to ensure that facts you state or imply are true before making claims. Claims which appear to be deliberately focussed on "attempting to inflame community tension".

I am asking you again to provide the evidence that people charged with the same same crime and found guilty of that crime have had wildly disproportionate sentencing.

It doesn't suit their narrative of "2 Tier justice" does it?

Same with the Epping forest hotel judgement, clearly the High Court didn't get Starmers orders to allow the hotel to be used for asylum seekers.

Perhaps its beginning to dawn on you that there is no 2 tier justice in this country.... ?

Its just a made up anti govt narrative by the Tory supporting media.

Could you give some examples? Cases where exactly the same crime occurred, under the same circumstances and the outcomes were completely different. There must be loads if it happens time and time again.

More than happy to give some examples:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-59727161.amp

Also for example there have been 24 marches banned by a home secretary following a police request in the past 30 years under section 13 of the 1986 Public Order Act.

Two of those prohibited had been organised by “anti-capitalist groups” and one was recorded by the Home Office as being a “religious march” planned by an unnamed group in Luton. But of those 24 banned marches, 21 were proposed by far-right groups.

The different political and policing ready to the Harehill and Southport riots.

https://londonlovesbusiness.com/notting-hill-carnival-example-of-two-tier-policing-as-the-police-are-hesitant-to-make-arrests/

Anyway it's getting late so here's a few for you . But either way what really matters is the public perception which surveys do show a belief in a two tier policing.

Milo Ponsford, left, Sage Willoughby, second left, Jake Skuse, second right (in mask), and Rhian Graham, right, are accused of criminal damage

I can't open the second link. I asked for crimes which were the same, with the same circumstances and a different outcome.

For example, another large festival where party goers were arrested en masse for smoking drugs or dancing with police. If you think the police have the capacity or time to arrest every single person smoking weed at a festival of around 2m people, you know nothing about the capacity of the service.

Honestly I wouldn't bother. Whatever you post will be gone over to the nth degree so someone can claim you haven't done exactly what was requested and no leeway will be given. By the way, the 2nd post does open.

Indeed, some people will gladly spend their time asking you to justify every fact, opinion or letter of the alphabet you use to “catch you”, they don’t want to learn or discover more, they just look for an angle to disqualify.

They also seem to really enjoy the power play coming from hounding people, interrogating and pressing for answers in the name of “debate”. It’s getting very unsavoury.

Yes it's a way of shutting down debate and ironically it's usually from the 'liberal' left who would prove themselves on tolerance, kindness etc.
A good thread on Feminist board at moment with several comments about how these left wingers can be the most abusive on MN.

Perhaps thats because the far right have a habit of extreme violence? often associated with Nazism and antisemitism..

Even good old Robert Jenrick found himself pictured with a Combat 18 thug in Epping....

I hope you're not calling for these "Far right protests" to be allowed?

What about the Stop oil protestors? jailed for far longer than LC....

On Coulston....
In this case, they determined that a conviction for the removal of this statue - that glorified a slave trader involved in the enslavement of over 84,000 black men, women and children as a 'most virtuous and wise' man - would not be proportionate

They were charged with Criminal Damage...... without lawful excuse, the jury thought they did have lawful excuse.

I think all these random cases prove is the justice system is complex and has the capacity to throw up anomalies but that does not mean its "Two Tier"

PhilippaGeorgiou · 20/08/2025 11:34

Interesting how, when the "left" post facts backs by evidence they are shutting down debate. When the "right" refuse to provide facts with evidence, asking for it is shutting down debate. Seems that the people shutting down debate are the ones failing to provide any evidence, but screaming loudly at the ones providing evidence for shuttting down the debate.
