Unbelievable (but not unexpected).

two tier justice. in the sense that he had the experience and wisdom of expensive solicitors who knew that tàking a chance on the jury ws the clever play where poir Lucy got the duty solicitor who was probably looking for the quickest/easiest way to settle the case.

twistyizzy · 15/08/2025 13:34

He made a throat cutting action caught on camera etc and got let off?? 100% 2 tier justice, if he had been on the "wrong side" he would have been found guilty. Lucky for him he was on the "right" side!

PandoraSocks · 15/08/2025 13:36

How is it two tier policing? It was the jury's decision not the police's.

Very surprised he got off, though.

Yes I have edited to say justice.

Fair enough!

unreasonablebaguette · 15/08/2025 13:43

Let me guess, he's got men's mental health.

mrshoho · 15/08/2025 13:48

What we have learnt today is never plead guilty and instead take your chance in court. All those who were sentenced for writing online messages, including Lucy Connolly, should have pleaded not guilty. They were probably told plead guilty, the evidence is clear, you'll get a lighter sentence. But they were then crucified. The evidence for Ricky Jones couldn't have been any clearer yet he is now free. This is a terrible day for UK justice. Most people in prison have will have suffered a bad childhood and have special needs.

ScholesPanda · 15/08/2025 13:52

It was the choice of the jury, he received a trial by his peers in the same way as anyone else is entitled to have.

Yep

He’s gone full Gregg Wallace using his neurodivergence as an excuse. Lucy Connelly was a grieving mother.
Men on the left can really get away with whatever the fuck they want.

PandoraSocks · 15/08/2025 14:17

The jury took half an hour to decide. There must have been a good reason for them all to agree a verdict so fast.

SriouslyWhutNow · 15/08/2025 14:18

Pressure was put on the people last year to plead guilty for a lighter sentence to avoid a jury trial, which they then didn't get any consideration for. And some of them were just honest people doing what they thought was the right thing having a conscience and feeling bad about having committed a crime, which leaves only one conclusion to be drawn about this bloke. Politicians are also experts at talking their way out of things and ordinary people generally don't get the daily practice at it.

I don't support what he said, but are you suggesting that the jury was fixed? It was them that decided to find him not guilty. And I think people need to be careful about the whole "using his neurodivergence as an excuse" because it isn't just men who do that, and there's several posters on here that, when pulled up for offensive or abusive comments claim that it's ok because their neurodivergence means that they are "blunt speakers" - and they seem to get away with that claim.

Not agreeing with the jury verdict is fine. But whatever reason they came to that conclusion was theirs and nothing to do with "the left" (which in my opinion he most certainly isn't - Labout hasn't been "left" in years). Lucy Connelly pleaded guilty, he did not. And she had the choice of retaining her own counsel and chose not to.

Definitely must have been some technicality on the wording of the charges. It will all be revealed in due course. For one way or another we do have a two tier system.

He was granted bail, and she was denied it - from the beginning there wasn’t equitable treatment.
Maybe if she had been granted bail, she wouldn’t have had to rely on the duty solicitor and could have received better legal advice.

I see no reason for them to have not granted it to him, and not her.

What could that 'good reason' be? It was filmed.

Lucy Connoly pleaded guilty so no jury in her trial. She was badly advised and should have gone to trial

She was remanded in custody for months before pleading guilty though.

I see no reason how this was justifiable for her, and not him.

I mean, I agree with you, she should have taken it to court, but meant she shouldn’t have been remanded in the first place

I don’t think she had a solicitor at all, they told her that if she were to plead guilty it would be a light sentence. See also: the guy arrested for cutting his hedge with a small sickle, who was told to accept a police caution after several hours waiting for a solicitor who was unavailable, so he could go home.

Moral : just say no comment like all the dealers and robbers, wait it out and hope the police get tired before you.

Pretty easy, because he is on the right side ie Left/Labour. You think a Tory/Reform councillor would have got off with this without even being kept on remand? We've seen what happens when you are on the wrong side ie Lucy.
