This migrant problem is going to let Reform in isn’t it?

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 24/07/2025 12:33

Honestly it’s such a bloody nightmare. Reform are making a total hash of local government from what I’ve read, putting teenagers in charge of whole departments with no relevant experience. What are they going to do if they are elected to run a country!!!! I’m honestly terrified. Labour need to be seen to be actively doing something to quell the far-right momentum that’s gaining traction from ordinary folk. I’m amazed at the average, usually pretty sensible people around me who are now telling me they are going to vote Reform.

there was an interview I saw yesterday where the minister said that thousands of people were being deported regularly. The interviewer asked why there were no videos of this and she said there could be. Well let’s see it! It would absolutely help.

The thing is, migrants are actually a tiny part of the problems, they are just being made out to be the root cause - classic political misdirection.

They are a problem though. 25000 people entering illegally is a problem.

Yes same - my relative is living alone in a large three bedroom as a pensioner. Problem is not enough one-bedroomed single level dwellings are available.

Lots of small flats in 55+ small blocks of flats around here, but no one seems to want them. Some are really cheap too! When I last did a Rightmove search for 1 bed flats there were around 50, when I filtered out the retirement complexes it came down to around 5!! A lot of older people simply don't want to live in retirement flats surrounded by "old" people!!

Make it make sense labour government

I'm the same
I've been voting green
But then they annoyed me with getting involved with the issue with Edinburgh rape crisis centre.and I realised they are to woke for me , despite the fact I'm vegan ..but I also don't agree with getting rid of nuclear weapons.
But I'd over looked the nuclear weapons issue , saying to myself, well they will never get in anyway.
But how mad is that ,voting for a party where you don't agree with a major issue..
But apart from nuclear weapons they were the nearest I agreed with at the last few elections.
Not anymore..
Now there isnt any party I would vote for

I want immigration limited
But I want to keep the NHS
I want my disabled children looked after when I'm gone .
We own our own home ,so I can't even make sure it's left to my children in my will ,as if I need a care home my house will be taken to pay for it .
Yet if we had never got a mortgage and had a council house ,the house could be left to my children, and I'd not need to worry about their future.
That's what I think is very unfair
My children need the security of their home when I'm dead , anyone in a council housing now gets this ,and free care in a nursing home as they have no house to sell.
But we didn't claim a council house ,we sorted our selves out and now the house can be taken away from my disabled children who will of lived there their whole lives ,to pay for my care .
My only option will be assisted dying ,so I don't need the care home

Crazy isn’t it.

My dad lives in a 5 bedroom house with my disabled brother. He owns it outright.

I don't want to live in a country where the government thinks it has the right to start telling people where they can live. When they have 'too much' space, etc.

Social housing is different, but if people were kicked out when they started earning money, they'd never get jobs, would they?

But Reform still haven't got any answers, none at all, same as the Cons & despite v poor polling, no one wants Farage as PM.

You're living in a bubble.

Reform are polling 34%.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/08/02/why-white-working-class-rage-is-surging-in-britain/

Labour have zero intention of stopping the boats, so the polls are only going in one direction.

29% according to Yougov tracker poll, done weekly

You should also look at Yougov's polling on Farage's popularity as PM, it's dire, on people who voted Labour last time, the majority of voters for one party..... its Labour 75% to Farage on 11%.

Agree, Labour cannot stop the boats, neither could the Tories and neither can Reform.

The only people living in bubbles are people who say they can predict an election result 4 years out.....

Again, 100% agree on housing, its your dads house, paid for, the Govt has zero right to it.

A lot of our problems go back to foolish immigration policy.

Housing crisis = millions added to the population every year. Infrastructure can't catch up.

Unaffordable benefits bill = we're paying billions in benefits to migrants (as well as to Brits). Paying billions extra a year to house migrants in hotels or HMOs.

Crime and lawlessness = our prisons are full and at breaking point, a disproportionate number are migrants. High trust society is gone.

Women's safety = there's enough bad men among the natives but we've imported hordes of men who either have no respect for women or believe women who wear revealing clothes (or aren't covered up) are fair game. They see white women as spoils of conquest.

The boats could be stopped in 5 minutes. It just takes a bit of guts and will to do it and to put sufficient deterrents in and take away the incentives and cash and prizes that await them here.

Starmer has neither. Neither did the Tories and to be fair neither will Reform, but they'll at least put deterrents in place as the Tories tried to do. Labour genuinely welcome these invaders with open arms, they don't want to stop it. They were cheering in Calais when they won the election which is why the numbers have only gone up.

Radioundermypillow · 03/08/2025 19:01

How do they stop them?

And if we stop all benefits won't that mean they will still come but be homeless and turn to crime?

How? In 5 minutes? i would like to hear your plan.

And they also need to stop taxing the primary residence - unheard of elsewhere in Europe - and then gas lighting people by saying it is only the richest 4% of estates who pay it. A single parent nurse with a 2 bed flat in an average to grotty part of London will end up paying.

France charges CGT on property sale profits 36%.... Germany 25% on properties owned for less than 10 years.....

Fancy that?

Either exit or ignore ECHR.

Make it clear that any arrivals will be detained until their claim is heard. No benefits, no roaming around town.

Have a high bar for granting any asylum claims. Anyone undocumented and not fully vetted will not be granted asylum.

You need to have a will. The problem is the country is so soft and liberal that these NGOs and illegals are running rings around us. It'll take a backbone and the numbers would largely stop.

I was not talking about CGT on the primary residence. UK exempts this - as do France and Germany once a property has been owned for a certain number of years.

I was referring to IHT on primary residences.

I meant social one bedroomed accommodation. I don’t think a pensioner would be able to get a mortgage, especially if they had no property to sell having lived in social housing for most of their adult lives.

So lets say 100k migrants have already crossed the channel, thats more than the UK s prison population, we would have to build another 100 prisons/detention centres, each housing 1000.

Where? staffing? costs? timescales to build?

All pie in the sky

None of that will happen under Human Rights lawyer Starmer who's as wet as they come.

So European countries hit the seller with CGT, we hit them with IHT.... which the property owner wont pay as he/she is dead.... & presumably past caring....

It wont happen because its a beyond stupid idea, with zero thought.

Plus as we have no way of actually deporting most migrants, France wont take them and neither will their home countries, we would be stuck with imprisoning people in detention centres for ever more......

Yeah Great Idea!!

You’ll get posts re 100k numbers or whatever when it’s easy to see numbers are very low when a successful deterrent is used. This is said on every thread.

Detain them within the hotel grounds for now if needs be, with extra security, but start building detention centres for further arrivals.

Of course not, we've got 4 more years of this because he'll do nothing but Reform have 4 years to plan. Not that we'll have much of a country left in 4 years.

The over 55 housing is an absolute scandal - there's plenty in the press about it. It's no wonder no-one wants to live in these places.

If there were genuine properties catering to older people I'm sure many would be happy to downsize. Not if they're going to be ripped off though. Just search for over 55 housing scandal.
