Why do people like reform?

1000 replies

TheGoogleMum · 02/05/2025 09:23

I haven't been keeping very up to date with politics. I usually vote Labour. I don't really understand the popularity of reform, could anyone explain it to me?
As far as I'm aware Farage doesn't actually do anything when he wins a seat somewhere so I'm not convinced they'll actually do anything? Is it just a protest vote that's gone a bit far?

Yes, targeted tax cuts can grow the economy like we've seen previously both in the UK and abroad.

You don't adhere to the much disputed trickle down theory do you? That's been so successful in the UK that 1/3 children are in poverty and the rate of millionaires has risen exponentially.

It really can;t be any worse than Rachel's economic illiteracy.

Oh I think it can.

Yes. God knows who Labour will dredge up to replace her once she's inevitably sacked.

BIossomtoes · 10/05/2025 20:20

I thought we were discussing Reform economic policy - which I couldn’t find on that link.

@snughugs
Is it fair to say that you're a white nationalist and don't want black and brown people in the country?

Do you think Reform are going to blanket ban black and brown people from entering the country? Are you in favour of authoritarianism? Because the only way remigration and banning non white people is going to happen is if we have an authoritarian government that breaks the law.

Snug hugs didn’t actually say that and I think she makes relevant points.

They haven't answered the questions I asked but while we wait, do you agree with this:

I actually don’t want to live in a multicultural society.

Not when there are more people from other cultures than the people who were already here and it feels like your whole neighbourhood has changed

Then you're a white nationalist as well. It's hardly surprising you agree.

"Multi cultural" is different from "multi ethnic" though. The UK culture for example treats women and homosexuals equally. I think any culture that does not do this is wrong. So I wouldn't want a multicultural UK where there are cultures that do not treat women and homosexuals equally. (I know I have worded that badly but hopefully you know what I mean).

They're not talking about culture, they're talking about keeping Britain white.

No! To clarify I don’t want to be a minority in my own country. I like my culture and what I’m used to and it’s not black brown I felt the same about Eastern Europeans. Some migration is essential but we had a huge amount of Polish come over, too many in my opinion, the numbers should’ve been capped when the Eu gave that option to Tony Blair.

I suppose it's the great unsayable. While it's not something I've particularly thought about and without.venturing an opinion, I think it's useful if we think about what would happen the opposite way in another country. For example if large numbers of white people started migrating to Nigeria (off the top of my head), the Nigerian government started letting in millions of white people and the demographic started to change, particularly in some poorer areas where whites were the majority. What would we think would be reasonable for the Nigerians to feel about their own culture? Would we think it bad if they said they wanted to keep Nigeria mainly for people of their own colour? I don't know the answer.

I'm Gen X and this is not what we were taught growing up, but we (particularly in poorer regions of the North) have been put in the position of having to consider these issues by the lax policies of recent governments which really annoys me.

SendBooksAndTea · 11/05/2025 07:35

The main reason is simply that we live in a sadly negative world, full of ignorance, selfishness, greed, hate and fear. Various parties are playing on this for money and power, it's all that seems to matter in politics.

You have heard about colonialism?

You have heard about colonialism?

I knew someone was going to write that. "Colonialism" or "the Nazis". So predictable Im afraid and so limiting. As if it stops any discussion. I almost put a caveat saying let's not muddy the waters with excusing everything with "colonialism ". Not helpful @Blossomtoes . It isn't relevant to many people alive in the UK these days.

BIossomtoes · 11/05/2025 09:01

I know it’s not helpful to your arguement. It’s entirely relevant. We’re fucked if we don’t learn lessons from history and it’s teaching us pretty comprehensively now that pigeons come home to roost.

I supposed the demographic you are from might be relevant if you find colonialism relevant. You may yourself feel colonial guilt or that your ancestors are in some way responsible and therefore think this country deserves what it gets. I'm afraid if you were saying that in certain areas of the north east you would be laughed out of toon. People feel how they feel.

Hence the rise of Reform.

No one is suggesting banning black and brown people. What is so wrong to like to not have over saturation of other cultures in a very quick time? People who have been here years or well integrated immigrants who are contributing isn’t the issue it’s the volume of people being imported. Millions and Millions and usually poor, unskilled and little education.

Some parts of the country are like mini Pakistan and because immigration has occurred so quickly they’re no integration. There was one Pakistani girl in my year at school, she was good friend, she wore a skirt (with thick tights), had long hair, her national dress was not a burka but bright clothing and amazing bright gold jewellery. She went off to university and is still a practicing Muslim, married to a Muslim and her kids are the local private school and adhere to the dress code as she did at our school. She was very well integrated. Imagine if 35% of the kids were Pakistani they’d have absolutely no need to ingrate they’d just mix amongst themselves and never take on our customs or British way of life.

i’d rather have 30 brown doctors than 50 unskilled Eastern Europeans. It’s ok to be choosy who we allow in they manage to not have an open door policy in other countries without screams of racist!

Well, Germany has more immigration than the UK. Is that their punishment for WWII atrocities?

As Jackrussels posted, time has moved on and people see and feel what is happening now.

matresense · 11/05/2025 10:25

I would like to live in a multicultural society in the sense that skin colour isn’t relevant, we embrace diversity etc. I don’t want to live in a multicultural society in the sense that we think everything that might come from another society is automatically worthy of respect (or fear of being racist), whether or not it accords with our values.

as an example, I think we should ban cousin marriage in the U.K. It is a cause of disability and suffering and is utilised by certain ethnic groups to ensure that they can preserve power and control within the family, which can involve coercion of vulnerable females. Nobody apart from those groups would want to keep the option of marrying their cousin, or marrying their child to their cousin. I think it has nothing to recommend it. It’s slowly gaining some traction in parliament, but the only reason I can think of as to why it hasn’t been done already is because it is seen as racist or culturally insensitive, or it isn’t worth doing (despite the increasing disability prevalence rate within certain cultural groups in places such as Bradford) - there is a lobby against it from Pakistani community groups. This is what I mean - why are we allowing it? Why are we letting people bring their cousins in for marriage? Makes no sense.

matresense · 11/05/2025 10:29

And no, Australia hasn’t banned black or brown people, but its immigration rules are so strict that no one can come other than to a skilled job and it is quite hard to gain residence, which itself means that only those who are prepared to do the work and value similar things to Australians are likely to settle there.

I know someone that had to fill in ivf funding forms for cousins from Pakistan. One was already on PIP for problems with his own inbreeding, they already had one child in a wheelchair and non verbal due to inbreeding and then asking for government funding for IVF for potential more kids that cost us a lot and there’s a significant chance of a disability. They were asked questions during the application and the man answered that he’d be abandoning the child if anything happened to the Mother.
