The similarities between what is happening now and pre-war Germany are startling, I do also think we need to be mindful of comparing to history to closely. The World is such a different place with different challenges. That said the similarities are uncanny…

......people don't change, they are just as easily influenced, have the same prejudices and can have zero empathy, once the "victim" is dehumanised.

Perhaps with modern social media, its even easier?

Press conference with Bondi the US AG

https://bsky.app/profile/atrupar.com/post/3lmwnpdstzs2z

REPORTER: Why not show the public the evidence?

BONDI: Well, he is an illegal alien who has been living illegally in our country from El Salvador ... He is not coming back to our country

R: But the evidence. We're not gonna see the evidence?

BONDI: We have the transcripts from the court hearings

Exactly! If anything this period is worse. The spread of hatred is easier and significantly quicker. My hope though is so too is the spread of support and anti-facism.

pointythings · 16/04/2025 07:24

And do you think that is OK? Do you think it was acceptable to send him and others in the first place, without following the law?

I know nothing about American law. I know nothing about whether this man is innocent or not.

Are you serious? The 'spreading of hatred?'

After all the hatred you have shown towards me that one's rich.

I bet there were plenty 2000 years ago who said very similar things!!

Its easy to standby and do nothing, when faced with easily proved facts.

The courts have said he shouldn't have been sent, heck, even the Trump administration has said so... yet here you are sitting on the fence.

Talk about faux injured pride!!

Maybe you should do a bit of reading around the case, then you would know that he was legally barred from being deported and was taken in error.

And the US has innocent until proven guilty, just as we do. This man had no legal process at all, he was just disappeared.

The laws around that have not changed; Trump's people are just ignoring them.

Perhaps you should take some time away from Bible reading and preaching and read the news instead, so you can post on political threads from an informed position.

I know only what is on the UK TV news.

I am not without sympathy for people. I have belonged to Liberty for years.

I am disabled for even longer. I know all about discrimination from the hatred a few of the posters on this site give me.

Perhaps you should try to help people near to you, because all the posts in the world will not give you any leverage to help in cases like this. Stick to something you can get results from.

So you are saying that because you are on Mumsnet you can say and do what you like, and it isn't your fault if people are not thick skinned enough to be hurt by the nasty remarks you give?

Have you ever studied how to be nice to people? There is a right and wrong way to tell people you disagree.

You're here on the Internet. The information is at your fingertips. You can't post on a topic without knowing about it when a quick Google search will put you in the picture. Ignorance is not an excuse.

And shutting your eyes and thinking locally when overt fascism is engulfing one of the powers on the world stage is stupid.

Besides, who says I don't also do things IRL? I can do good in life and engage in politics too.

Lastly, you do not get to tell me what yo do.

@llizzie

If you feel posts go against Talk Guidelines, just report them. No one has shown you hatred, no one at all.

As for saying you are not without sympathy for people, you obviously are. You said I DON'T CARE when the subject of the man locked up in the worst prison in the world illegally was discussed. If you don't feel sympathy for him, you don't feel sympathy for anyone. Being a member of Liberty means nothing, you have to put its core values into practice

You said this The ECHR is the reason why we cannot get rid of the illegal boat migrants which are costing the taxpayer billions each year.
You need to know that the core message of Liberty is to remain in the ECHR, so I am dubious about your membership to be honest.

Karistyleaftea · 16/04/2025 15:51

Today I have the famous poem by Pastor Martin Niemoller
in my head.
"First they came for .............................................

Then they came for me.
And there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Well the 'I don't care' was aimed at the poster who keeps targeting me. and I explained that. It was the wrong words to use in the context.

I DON'T CARE that you call me a liar. I have, indeed, belonged to Liberty for years. I am seriously thinking of giving it up, because more and more they send me emails which I find disturbing.

Hatred can be projected towards someone in many ways. I have come through life without having to swear at people or be rude to them. I have learned there are many ways to disagree with people.

I stand by what I said about not being able to get rid of illegal immigrants. If they were legal, they would not be coming across in boats, would they?

I have carers from other countries. My carer who escaped from the civil war in Uganda was with me 5 years, and would be still had he not been diagnosed with liver cancer last year. He still comes to see me. When he was ill, I had a carer from Ghana. My present carer is from East Europe. He loves cooking and cleaning. I haven't had a ready meal since last August, except that when I cannot swallow I have to resort to baby food, sucked off the prongs of a fork.

They always smile, and have so much to talk about. It is possible to have conversations with those whose first language isn't English. Their access to my wi fi is helpful, and the ability to get information on the computer is so much easier for them.

I bet I meet more legal immigrants than you do.

ps

They are fearful of those who come by boat.
