WTF is happening? It’s like some bizarre performance art piece.

He’s holding up signs and shouting and throwing out hats it’s just 🤯

I can hear it playing at my neighbors house - they are cheering !

They are saying “ it’s the end of neo-liberalism!! Hurrah! “

jewelcase · 02/04/2025 22:11

It’s literally a millionaire living in a gold palace and holding the most powerful position in the world heading up the richest country the world has ever known moaning about how the entire planet has been so horrid to him.

AzurePanda · 02/04/2025 22:14

Why is it such a big deal ? He’s only applying reciprocal tariffs. The EU aggressively uses tariffs to protect its own members.

This just isn’t true. We don’t impose a 10% tariff on American goods

Notonthestairs · 02/04/2025 22:18

Is it reciprocal? Alan Beattie at the FT doesn’t seem to think so.

BTW let's just be clear that these numbers are utterly made up, adding in all sorts of random stuff. By these calculations the EU charges the US 4x the tariffs that Brazil does. Not "reciprocal" in any way whatsoever.

I couldn’t see Mexico or Canada either, maybe they have their own boards.

He decided not to apply tariffs to them after all.

A 'serious' radio show said this is Part one of his plans which we all know are made up with little thought to the consequences and likely just the start of it.

AzurePanda · 02/04/2025 22:21

The UK charges VAT on American imports. Obviously this is because the UK charges VAT on all goods and services but historically the US hasn’t applied an equivalent tax.

I'm just getting the sky news updates but I did notice that Russia isn't on his tarrif chart. Is that because they are now best buddies?????

Well you don't bite the hand that feeds you, do you? Putin must be rubbing his hands with glee. He doesn't need to do anything, Trump is dismantling democracy and capitalism for him. He just needs to sit back and wait for the West to implode.

Sandylittleknees · 02/04/2025 21:47

It’s bonkers! Some serious fact checking needed. Can’t work out if he’s using autocue or just talking. It’s very boring too.

He's permanently off script, so I can't imagine anyone bothers to write a thing for him anymore. His intrusive thoughts ways win 😂.

Daftsheep · 02/04/2025 22:26

In-dust-tree
Tech-knuckle.

Reminds me of the scene in Austin Power when the fembots start to malfunction.

What a time to be alive.

Barney16 · 02/04/2025 22:26

He's as mad as a box of frogs. Great chart though. He definitely made that himself. Melania, Melania, I need a big piece of cardboard Melania.

His toupee is clinging on for dear life.

I did think that, was touch and go with the wind 🤣

Apparently his definition of reciprocal is tariffs to counter restrictions such as on genetically modified foods. So not like for like.

mawik · 02/04/2025 22:29

I watched it, and am amazed how the giant wotsit managed to waffle on for almost an hour without hardly taking a breath, and that dreadful monotone voice 🙈

unsync · 02/04/2025 22:29

@Ilikewinter and of course they are still sanctioned, but I bet Trump's working on that.

That made me laugh:)
Suppose he was carrying it about with him to stop anyone leaking it to the press and spoling his Big Moment.

Why oh Why wasn't Musk there with a giant pen? Like his crazy fake chainsaw.

Funniest was the bbc comparing trump to a bookie on the rails.

MaidOfSteel · 02/04/2025 22:31

The truth doesn’t matter any more, does it.

Bunnycat101 · 02/04/2025 22:32

Every trump impersonator will now have a board. I couldn’t believe it when the prop came out like some terrible 80s tv show.

AlloftheTime · 02/04/2025 22:35

I fell asleep and missed the board, I missed the board!
I will never forgive myself.

Peclet · 02/04/2025 22:36

Can’t find the longer clip on the bbc can any help please?

I must see the giant wotsit in action.

Musk has quit today apparently! Hardly made much news.

All so deeply weird.

Renamed · 02/04/2025 22:38

Cambodia, Lesotho, why has Norfolk Island got its own tariff? They obviously just threw an atlas at Chat GPT

VAT is a sales tax. The US and every other developed country in the world charge sales taxes.

Gardenhaurs · 02/04/2025 22:44

That board.....wtaf????

Battling in the wind with it 😳

QueenOfHiraeth · 02/04/2025 22:48

Just switched on BBC2 and there is a guy on there representing the US government (just seen name Sebastian Gorka) who is being incredibly rude but, on a positive note, he is skewering Victoria Derbyshire for interrupting. She does it all the time which drives me mad - why ask a question and not listen to the answer?
