WTF is happening? It’s like some bizarre performance art piece.

He’s holding up signs and shouting and throwing out hats it’s just 🤯

It's amazing that someone can switch so effortless from trying to signal their virtuosness by referencing (however badly) their own faith, to making clear that they have no sense of empathy or morality.

It’s quite incredible.

You don’t care that an innocent man is sitting rotting in a foreign gulag?

I put it badly: I was saying I don't care if you argue with me.

You have, as usual, misinterpreted what I said.

My remark was to igotjelly and I expressed that I do not care that she is attacking me verbally.

Thank you for that apology. I didn't think you had it in you.

This has been a measured and informative thread flagging up relevant updates in real time with very interesting contribution's which I found very useful. I even appreciated the dark humour.
Thank you for the numerous valid comments from so many contributors.
I am not knowledgeable enough to make any meaningful contributions but I did really appreciate this thread.
I have been unable to follow much of the real changes since the weekend. It's a big jumble of exchanges which derail from the actual news and information.
Would it be OK if we either start a new sensible thread please, to go back to basics. I hope I'm not alone in this.

The President of El Salvador refuses to have anything to do with that. He said to Trump: ''Do you think I would send a terrorist to America''.

The Supreme Court ordered his return, but unless American military can break into El Salvador and 'rescue him' he will have to stay.

And do you think that is OK? Do you think it was acceptable to send him and others in the first place, without following the law?

pointythings · 16/04/2025 07:25

llizzie · 15/04/2025 21:53

Well I watched them having the conversation. I am sure if you have a smart tv you can play it back to see.

I DON'T CARE

And you call yourself a Christian. You need to start over and learn what that means.

Igotjelly · 16/04/2025 07:37

https://www.axios.com/2025/04/15/kilmar-abrego-garcia-deported-case-return so if he returns to the US they will deport him back to El Salvador, despite being told b the courts it was illegal in the first place. They’re absolutely soulless.

Alexandra2001 · 16/04/2025 08:29

Its not just the sending him to El Salvador and then refusing to get him released, its the disdain for the 'Courts.

Trump believes he can do as he wishes and he appears to be correct, the American constitution seems to have no safe guards against a man like him.

Now he wants a close economic tie up with Russia in return for the Ukraine war to end, though on what terms the war ends, is anyone guess.

There's a bunch of Christians who reject empathy as weakness (not my crowd, I might add, saying this as a Christian myself). It's sadly a phenomenon found in the more extremist wings of all major religions. And cults.

They are no christian then. No wonder America has a problem. There should be separation between church and state.

Trump pretends to be a christian but he has proved he is not. When asked about his favourite story in the Bible, he can't name one. He has flogged bibles with his name in to his fanbase. He has employed that fruit loop Paula White in his administration, she is beyond words. He has proven time and time again he hasn't a clue about any religion, he just pays lip service to it for votes.

Bullshit Barbie pretends to be a Christian whilst laughing about locking an innocent man up on El Salvador, they’re all at it. Hiding behind a veneer of respectability in their faith but really just bigots.

Igotjelly · 16/04/2025 09:16

And by Bullshit Barbie I mean Karoline Leavett, before a certain poster thinks I’m personally attacking them 🙄

lawpluslaw · 16/04/2025 10:24

I'm starting to get concerned, as the pressure mounts, that Mr Ábrego García will mysteriously not survive his incarceration. The poll numbers are very rapidly turning against Trump on this, as well as on the economy, and I think the administration is likely desperate to avoid the publicity that will inevitably surround his return.

On the other hand, this could protect him... There is so much focus on him, I think his good health would be in the regime's best interest.

Maybe, but Navalny didn't harm Putin. I'm concerned about the information Abrego Garcia has about the concentration camp. I don't think returning him in one piece is in their interests. Hopefully that's just me being a cynic, though.

StandFirm · 16/04/2025 10:48

Dark take... but I see your point.

I’ve only skimmed to catch up, but the case of Merwil Gutiérrez is another who people should be aware of.

He’s a 19yr old who ICE knew they’d rounded up in error and was still deported.

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/15/merwil-gutierrez-venezuelan-teen-deported-el-salvador

TopPocketFind · 16/04/2025 12:53

And there is this one

This is the second video of ICE agents shattering a window in the last week rather than have some patience. And in this case, they're allegedly detaining someone who already has asylum through his wife, with no reason given at all!

Cornettoninja · 16/04/2025 13:03

These ICE agents always seem to be covering their faces with masks/hoodies. To me that indicates that they absolutely know that what they’re doing is indefensible.

Agree. Hundred percent.

I’m sure someone’s mentioned the Brown shirts in prewar Germany

That doesn’t bode well Sad

one of the things I find most interesting about living in a period so horrifically mirroring history is the effect communication and technology must be having. In theory, it should be significantly harder to deny, obfuscate and divert but it seems that either people are okay with it or they’re incredibly susceptible. It’s probably both.

Well, they certainly can't say 'Wir haben es nicht gewusst'.
