I hope that this uploads with English subtitles but if it doesn't, you should be able to get them up. I can't form any opinion about what he had to say right now, just passing it on.

Why do I get the feeling you don't mean Putin?

You're wrong.

ZebedeeDougalFlorence · 06/03/2025 00:13

You're wrong.

Jolly good. You might want to be a bit clearer on this thread where a bunch of posters appear to be trying to blame Macron for Putin's war.

TrufflePopcorn · 06/03/2025 00:16

WinterMorn · 06/03/2025 00:11

That’s the primary concern right now?

It's not irrelevant to point out how insanely weird Macron is, since you trust him with your future.

And you might want to stop policing people's posts and hectoring them. I'm depressed enough as it is.

Obviously not

I was just saying that i always think of that every time i see him on the tv

You do realise no matter what any of us say on here, it really does not matter

Im sure he isnt consulting Mumsnet for advice

Europe has been appalling in all this, playing a game it cannot win without declaring itself as a player, for FOUR years people have died for no tangible results, isn't it enough now?

It's not four, it's three.

I am not minimising the deaths I just find it very odd when it's so wrong

Yes, it's abolutely horrific.

All for the vainglory of a little man in Moscow, dreaming of empires.

He doesn't give a shit about the Russian people – whose deaths he's ordering in tens of thousands.

He's even had his close friend assassinated, Prigozhin, the one to whom he owes everything.

If Putin can have Prigozhin killed, truly no one is safe. There's no amount of sucking up to him or enabling him that will save anyone.

Stirring stuff. Thank goodness someone in Europe is leading properly. Vive la France.

Macron has been trying to step up as Europe's elder statesman since Merkel left and I expect lots of infighting for dominance with Germany etc. It's not going to be smooth sailing and it's going to cost a shit load of money which confirms that European countries have been subsidized by the US security wise. The EU announced they need to spend €850bn and that's just a start.

I find it funny how you're all angrily stating that the US is no longer an ally because they don't want to keep paying for you 😂. The US has been pushing for European countries to step up since Obama and you all refused now you all act outraged, give it a rest.

Also for the US Europe is not a priority anymore, remember during Obama's term when he declared the US is pivoting to Asia? You had a long time to prepare your leaders failed so stop blaming the US.

https://www.cfr.org/project/us-pivot-asia-and-american-grand-strategy

Obama told you to step up, you said no, Trump first term said the same you all made noise but did nothing, Biden said the same you ignored until Russia invaded Ukraine, you had time.

Pinkandcake · 06/03/2025 00:31

I think this is what will happen…

Trump “Tirant’ is throwing a strop like the 78 year old toddler he is, as he feels Zelenskyy wasn’t kissing his feet publicly. J.D “Judus.Danger”, stirred the pot then the explosion happened.

Their toys have been chucked out the pram and won’t be returned until Zelensky publicly grovels to them. His hand will be forced and he will apologise. Then these restrictions will be lifted, the deal will be done and signed and it will calm down.

He’s shit in his own nest now though, Tirant, because EU will no longer view him as an ally in the way they once did. Thankfully he’s only in for 4 years then that’s the end of him. The opposition will be shitting themselves because they know they need allies themselves but Europe won’t be a willing to help in their hour of need.

TrufflePopcorn · 06/03/2025 00:31

@sleepwouldbenice Odd in what way? Seriously, is everyone who disagrees with you on MN a Russian agent?
In any case, it seems a long time to me but you might be right, I thought it was going to be 4 soon, if not, is 3 not long enough? Is Ukraine running out of men not quite enough death?

I don't have an issue with the US telling us to step up and pay for our own defence. Most Europeans have now acknowledged that that's reasonable.

But that really isn't why we no longer consider the US to be a reliable ally.

noblegiraffe · 06/03/2025 00:36

No longer an ally because of pallying up to Russia, slapping trade tariffs on former allies, saying they are going to take Greenland one way or another and trying to annexe Canada.

These are not trivial reasons to consider that the US may no longer be an ally.

As I said the US telling you that they will stop supporting you to force you start making the rights decisions doesn't make them not allies. If you truly valued the US as allies you would have done everything you can to work with them instead of taking the easy road and coasting while being subsidized by the US.

As the saying goes on mumsnet when a man lives in with a woman and expects her to do the chores and pay while he doesn't, we call him a "cocklodger"

As I said European leaders had lots of time and warning and they failed so you should be angry at them. No matter how much the US spent supporting Europe you would all still look down on them like they are beneath you and you are better than Americans. We see it everyday on sites like mumsnet, reddit etc so yes it makes sense for the US to prioritize itself.

When ever i see him
I always think about his now wife who was 39 his teacher and married when she met him when he was just 15 years old.
Her daughter was his class mate

Never will sit right with me

This thread has become completely batshit.

PerkingFaintly · 06/03/2025 00:44

Who told you it was going to be wrapped up within 6 months?Confused

Leaving aside that you can't even remember when Russia invaded (the full-scale invasion) Ukraine in February 2022 – the 3rd anniversary has just passed and was widely commented on and taken notice of by anyone actually interested.

But 6 months? Putin said he'd take Kyiv in 3 days.

Bit of a fail for him.

Who do you think could have told me? Wasn't 6 months the general sort of estimation when it all kicked off? That's the sort of time people who took in Ukrainian refugees in their homes thought it might be for, a year at worst? No?
As for 3 or 4 years, maybe I'm not interested enough, knowing whatever I might think has no bearing whatsoever on what happens next, I do tend to switch off. Well done you for paying attention. Do you have the number of deaths too for this shit show or is that beside the point?

Sadly this is all correct.

The 3rd anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine was marked at the UN by a motion condemning Russia for the invasion – and the US voted against the motion and with Russia.

Dorothy Camille Shea votes at the UN Security Council in New York, 24 February

US sides with Russia in UN resolutions on invasion of Ukraine

The UK and France abstain as the UN Security Council passes a text that does not criticise Moscow.

I don't think that is a reasonable question,
