I hope that this uploads with English subtitles but if it doesn't, you should be able to get them up. I can't form any opinion about what he had to say right now, just passing it on.

Interesting how certain posters are seeing this as Macron agitating for war instead of responding in an entirely sensible manner to the very real threat posed by Putin who has already illegally invaded one country and threatens others.

The very real threat hasn’t just appeared since Trump became President has it? So of course there will be questions about why now.

And I agree, but let’s not derail this thread

Language only matters when it suits an agenda eh?

The UK is a maritime nation. We need to rebuild our navy, and make sure those nuclear subs are top notch. We also need to review five eyes.

France and Turkey have the biggest land armies. It will be very interesting to see what Turkey does or does not do.

America looks insane. If China is their real concern, it’s hard to see how destroying NAFTA snd NATO helps. Perhaps there will still be a rump NATO- everyone from the old alliance excluding the USA.

The US did not encourage Europe to rearm after WWII. I think NATO is why there has been peace in Europe- not the EU. (Nothing against the EU.)

Once Europe is rearmed, there is a chance of going back to infighting. Also, I would expect further nuclear proliferation now that the world is chaotic. No one will want to be vulnerable. It’s hard to say that the Ukrainians made the right choice to give up their nukes, when we look back in retrospect.

I have one dc studying engineering…lots of job opportunities coming, I suppose.

Didn't see Europe step in when Cyprus was invaded illegally but this is Russia so it's different yeah?

That was over fifty years ago. A different century even.
Or are you still in 1914 with the Greeks?

This is 2025, so yes it is different times.

Everyone knows why now. Because Trump is a Putin puppet and that is a huge issue for European security.

I think Trump has been hostile, capricious and spiteful enough in the last 6 weeks to constitute a new and very real threat. The breakdown of the western alliance after 70 years is serious. The torpedoing of NAFTA after 30 years is significant.

A complete global realignment is alarming and it would be negligent not to respond.

As I was the person who introduced the topic of language being important, I have no idea what you are talking about.

JoyousGreyOrca · 05/03/2025 23:45

@EmpressoftheMundane no other country will ever give up their nuclear weapons after Russia's invasion of Ukraine

WinterMorn · 05/03/2025 23:45

And frankly, I don’t blame them

Hwi · 05/03/2025 23:48

Everybody should pay their own way. Including us. Rely on nobody.

Does that mean the US are removing their nuclear weapons from European soil?

It really is pointless attempting to have a discussion with people who believe what they’ve been spoonfed by the media.

War won’t even be the wake up call either.

We all know the demands Trump has made of Ukraine. What demands has Trump made of Russia to end this war?

Trump won't even commit to security guarantees to prevent Russia from invading Ukraine again.

As I was replying to a poster asking about men and women being conscripted for the war that is being agitated for in some quarters, no surprise there, who are you to say that the thread is being derailed because our dear leaders don’t know what a woman is. You don’t get bonus super powers for being the first to mention something on a thread.

That's why fanning the flames is a really bad move imo.

Macron is not the one fanning the flames.

But I do get the pure satisfaction of highlighting your agenda pushing nonsense 🙂

JoyousGreyOrca · 06/03/2025 00:07

Lets remind ourselves that it is Putin who invaded Ukraine.
And it was Trump who said he wanted to take over Greenland and Canada, and remove the millions of people living in Gaza to build a luxury holiday destination.

@Tekbrobillionaire you thought my comment stating basic facts was funny? You posted a laugh emoticon?

When ever i see him
I always think about his now wife who was 39 his teacher and married when she met him when he was just 15 years old.
Her daughter was his class mate

Never will sit right with me

And for what? These men make me sick.
