Stop buying American goods. The only thing Trump understands is money. Take it away

Seriously?

SwingLifeAway · 04/03/2025 21:42

And presumably you’re advocating for a boycott of Google, Amazon, Netflix, WhatsApp and Facebook too? What non-US alternatives are there to these services?

INeedAnotherName · 04/03/2025 21:44

List some household products that the UK produce and I'll seriously consider it. Mainly because their Cadbury chocolate version is crap.

Tishomingo · 04/03/2025 21:44

🙄 Good luck with that.

SnivellingLittleDerogatoryName · 04/03/2025 21:45

Doing this OP!

I've stopped shopping on Amazon, am not using Paypal any more. Avoiding US brands where possible. Hope to give up FB etc at some point soon.

It has to fit ones life and so we cannot give up everything American (would be completely impractical to do so) but we can make a small difference with some of our purchasing power.

The point is to give up whatever you practically can. Not to be perfect but to make a difference where you can. if you can even give up one out of ten things e.g. stop shopping on Amazon that is ok.

Perfection is the enemy of progress. Just do what you can.

Trump is trying to end a war that has killed one million people. Boycott the fascist! ✊🏾

Trump is siding with Putin and selling out America. He is a dangerous man.

I think we always used to joke that Americans were a bit thick but that’s really been confirmed this past week or two. Maybe there’s something in the water over there or perhaps all that cleansing bleach they consumed during covid times has killed even more of their brain cells.

Agree. Sounds good. I don’t think Americans are unwise. They know what’s going on. We will cancel Netflix and not use Amazon. Stop going to McDonalds and Starbucks

Rainingalldayonmyhead · 04/03/2025 22:56

It does make a difference.

As I have said before as an example Canadians have boycotted Americans good to the tune of removing American alcohol off our shelves - to the tune of one billion dollars per year in Ontario alone.

www.reuters.com/world/americas/canadians-cancel-trips-ban-american-booze-after-trumps-tariffs-2025-02-03/

We have cancelled or not booked American travel which has already reduced tourism in the US by 400 million dollars and could cost 1.2 billion to the US economy.
nypost.com/2025/02/22/us-news/canadians-cancelling-us-travel-en-masse-in-face-of-tariff-threats/

We don’t have to be passive. Boycotting American goods can work.

‘Mad as hell’ Canadians cancel US travel en masse as trade war escalates

Canadians are cancelling their American vacations en masse — as the next front in the US-Canada trade war is being fought at airports, gas stations and gift shops

And this people is PRECISELY why the Democrats lost. Sneering and looking down on the majority of the electorate, name calling and an entirely misplaced air of smug superiority.

justasking111 · 04/03/2025 23:29

Well that's a lot of drugs off the NHS shopping list.

Somethingthecatdraggedin7 · 04/03/2025 23:38

There have already been threads with the same thought so I think a lot of people don’t want to buy American after what Trump has done/ is doing.
Not sure if it will have any effect but speaking personally I feel disgusted with the place and just don’t want any association. Impossible to end everything which will have some US link but I will do what I can.
My cat is joining in and has changed from Greenies Pill Pockets to Royal Canin Pill Assist.
She hates Trump too.

If we aren't allowed to suggest that the people who voted for Trump may have been too stupid to properly comprehend what they were voting for, the only other reasonable conclusion that we can draw is that they're all raging fascists.

Personally, I think calling them stupid is giving them the benefit of the doubt. Being stupid is forgivable. Being a fascist is not.

I typed out a long reply and lost it. To be fair the dog is adorable!

But calling voters fascists because you disagree with them is worse than calling them all thick - and kinda QED to what I said before? Dilutes the term, renders it meaningless.

Why is it worse?

If people vote in a fascist president, despite a lot of red flashing warning signs, there are only really two possible explanations for that.

One is that they didn't understand what they were voting for despite all of the warnings.

The other is that they did understand and decided that they wanted to vote for a fascist leader.

To be clear, I'm absolutely not calling them fascists because they disagree with me. There are plenty of people who disagree with me who clearly aren't fascists. Most of the Tory party for example.

I'm calling Trump supporters fascists because they elected a leader with very clear and concerning fascist tendencies. Trump's own former aides have used that term to describe him.

You are free to bury your head in the sand about it if you want, but I think Trump is a dangerous man, and history will not judge those who voted for him kindly.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 05/03/2025 00:27

Glad that people enjoyed the random dog, anyway! Still don't know how he got there!

Yes, by siding with the man who began the war.

A lot of people who don't live in Ukraine are saying "make them surrender their country to the invading army because I'm fed up with seeing it in the news"

I do wonder what happened to the human race.
