@JoyousPinkPeer

No, not this year. Not even next year. 14 years of Conservative incompetence will take far longer to rectify. Tbh, only rejoining the EU will restore our growth.

Hoppinggreen · 01/01/2025 19:42

I know i'm not going to ahve more money but less - but Labour have made it VERY clear they aren't keen on the likes of me for some time now so I doubt Starmer meant me

Havalona · 01/01/2025 19:43

Reform and the hard right of the Tories are waiting in the long grass to give us all lots of money after the next election. Not that long to wait now folks so watch this space...

They would have to promise me personally a million quid before I voted for them, and even then i would have to think about it

taxguru · 01/01/2025 19:46

Don;t believe a single word of it. In six months they've done absolutely bugger all to grow the economy, so where's the money going to come from to put more money in people's pockets?? Unless they're planning on increasing debt even more and not only land our children with the repayments, but grandchildren and great grandchildren too? Or maybe they're planning to devalue the currency or create hyper-inflation so we have "more" money in our pockets but worth less!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 01/01/2025 19:47

Perhaps he meant by 'we' the MPs?

I suppose if you get your spectacles and clothes paid for, then you will have more money on your pocket.

Yep and the more Labour fuck up and lie then the more votes they hand to Reform.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 01/01/2025 19:54

I mean, did anyone seriously believe Snake Charmer Starmer was going to do a better job than the Tories did?

They're all cut from the same cloth. But Starmer is worse because he was trying to hide who he is and hoodwink the country. At least the Tories never hid their agenda.

We can only pray that in 4 years time Starmer is shown the door, before he does too much damage.

Meadowfinch · 01/01/2025 19:54

Water bills are soaring, utility bills are on the way up, public transport fares are rising.

The increase in NI has killed recruitment and growth. Planned pay rises aren't happening. The damage to the economy means interest rates and mortgages are staying high.

Housing benefit will stay frozen and the two child cap remains, meaning less money in the pockets of a lot of people who need help.

For the next 4.5 years, I'll focus on self sufficiency. Cut utility bills by relying more on the log burner. Cut all discretionary spending. Prepare for the worst. Do what I can to support the local youth group because they need help.

Labour won't get a second term, so at least this mess has an end date.

Cyclebabble · 01/01/2025 19:56

I cannot see how he can say that. Power and water prices are going up as is council tax. The rise in NI will make its way through to what we pay for other things as well, notably all forms of childcare. The job market is tightening as well so wages will be squeezed.

Circumferences · 01/01/2025 19:56

Starmer refuses to stand up for our country.
He's facilitating the theft and blatant profiteering going on with Supermarket food costs, energy gas/electricity bills, petrol bills, water company bills, basic human necessity costs of living, he's facilitating their greed. He's using our taxes to pay for war in the middle east, facilitating Israel and whatever Israel wants no matter what cost, he's facilitating rising levels of immigration because all these wars in the middle east, these displaced and war torn people need somewhere else to go. He thinks they should all come here.

He is not a friend of ours. He's a shit bag.

It's bonkers when we know we need increased recruitment and production to improve the economy, but then they slap on the NI increase which means companies can't recruit! I mean, what a twisted brain came up with that idea!

Oh look, another thread bashing a government that’s been in power less than six months. Were you all asleep for the previous 14 years?

In the space of six months, Starmer is less popular than Liz Truss.
That took some doing.
That's quite an achievement.

SleeplikeababyTonight · 01/01/2025 19:29

How can supermarkets still charge what they do as well?! Surely they should be capped; prices are disgusting!

The way the govt is treating the farmers - our food producers - prices of basics like bread, meat and veg can only go up.

Labour lied! And lied and lied!

They were voted in partly as the country were desperate for a change in govt but also because idiots believed Snake Charmer Starmer and he hasn't even been in 6 months before that lying became evident. Not a great start.

Or maybe he's not well liked?

The previous governments’ claims were regularly challenged and questioned here and elsewhere. Is there any reason a claim from our PM that is entirely baseless and lacking credibility shouldn’t also be challenged?

Thatcher was deeply unpopular at this stage of her first term. She won two more elections after that.

Startingagainandagain · 01/01/2025 20:02

I don't see how he can make that claim.

He has failed to do anything about rising utility bills.

Food prices keep going up. Council tax will go up.

Consumers and businesses' confidence is rock bottom and the economy is stagnant.

I voted for Labour but so far they have performed terribly.

They also have totally failed to build on the feeling of hope that something would change once the Tories were finally out.

Instead everything is doom and gloom every day.

Same. The Tories and Reform gave us Brexit which DID tank the economy. With a load of shitty sprinkles on top.

But I'd still like to know where Starmer thinks this cash in our pockets is coming from, given price rises and bill increases.

At this stage it's still just the Tories in govt just under a different name branding.

Or perhaps how people feel.

You have to admit it has been constant lies and shit since July.

Iwanttoliveonamountain · 01/01/2025 20:06

There’s another possibility tho isn’t there

Kitte321 · 01/01/2025 20:06

It’s all very depressing! I was hopeful. It lasted as long as it took to remove the winter fuel payment and then start peddling the ‘black hole’ rhetoric. The budget just blew any remaining faith out of the water - it feels intentional sabotage. They misled the voting public - they should be ashamed.

I can’t stand Farage. Please could someone rational, evidence based and centrist come forward? Someone prepared to reverse Brexit would be great.
