I voted Labour right up until the last election when I couldn’t vote for any of the candidates. I have never voted Tory or right of centre, and I never will.

The left has let down the left through its actions. I expected better of them.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 01/01/2025 19:24

Everything is going up - utilities, food, parking, council tax.... we've far worse to come and I am not hopeful we'll see improvements anywhere!

MichaelandKirk · 01/01/2025 19:25

He is flaying around not knowing what to do next. They are going to trash this economy.

Brexit trashed the economy. All Labour can do is mild worsening.

MichaelandKirk · 01/01/2025 19:27

The NI increases did it for me. How could they be so stupid and not realise what would happen.

stargirl1701 · 01/01/2025 19:27

Yes but not for quite some time.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 01/01/2025 19:27

Sorry, was looking at that lovely flying piggy that just went past my window! 🐷

SleeplikeababyTonight · 01/01/2025 19:29

How can supermarkets still charge what they do as well?! Surely they should be capped; prices are disgusting!

JoyousPinkPeer · 01/01/2025 19:29

Any labourites willing to explain/support his nonsense?

The cost of 10-year bonds has surpassed the worst of the LDI crisis in September 2022. On the metrics she attacked Liz Truss for, Rachel Reeves has crashed the economy

Yes but not for quite some time.

This year he's referring to ... but please explain how you think it's possible, even next year

More money in your pocket but it will only pay for half the amount of stuff it used to because the cost of things has gone up so much.

Havalona · 01/01/2025 19:33

Did he clarify/explain to us how this will happen and when?. Looking forward to more money soon, but don't know from what source or when. Anyone know?

Yes, it's a killer for business and growth. They are truly fuckwits!

I’m not sure who he expects to have more money in their pockets.

Utility bills and council tax is increasing. The inflation rate looks to be increasing again, and that’s before the knock on impact of the living wage and NIC changes.

Added to that, VAT on school fees will have a knock on effect to the discretionary spending of those families affected. Those families need to find thousands of pounds a year more in tax, which needs to be found from somewhere. They’ll spend less in the economy.

With regard to the NIC and living wage changes, business leaders have been warning about the impact this will have. Employers will have less money available for pay rises and recruitment. They are also likely to increase prices, which affects everyone.

He’s not skinning you alive, however much you may feel like he is.
Do you mean ‘flailing’? Hmm

Tlaloc999 · 01/01/2025 19:34

There is no wriggle room in Rachel Reeves’ budgets.

When Trump insists on 2.5%/3% of GDP on defence spending the government will be up the creek without a paddle. That‘s before the impact of tariffs - directly or indirectly.

But don‘t delude yourself into thinking that another party would be able to do a better job.

People in UK have to wake up to the reality that we have been living beyond our means for decades. Unless productivity increases( more people in the workforce, more innovation etc) our standard of living will decline.

Have you seen the margins supermarkets make - it’s a couple of percent. The UK grocery industry is generally recognised as one of the most competitive industries on the planet

HermioneWeasley · 01/01/2025 19:35

And do I believe Starmer? Absolutely not. He and Rachel Reeves are fucking clueless

NewNameNoelle · 01/01/2025 19:36

Well, utilities are going up, council tax is going up, VAT on school fees is costing us £5k a year more, we have a business employing staff and NI costs are going up, the economy doesn’t seem to be tracking in a positive direction, tax burden as a % of GDP is the biggest it’s ever been, so I’d be very surprised if it were correct in our case.

Based on his previous track record of lying, and his cabinet’s track record of lying, I’d say he’s lying.

hattie43 · 01/01/2025 19:37

He is a liar , thus incompetent government are way out their depth and no-one has confidence in them . The country will grind to a hault and be bankrupt .

Musicofthespiers · 01/01/2025 19:38

Definitely not.

Tristar15 · 01/01/2025 19:39

Porkyporkchop · 01/01/2025 18:29

I’ll believe it when I see it, and I’ve just seen an article that MPs are claiming hundreds of thousands of tax payer money for second homes so it’s not looking likely.

You’ve only just realised this? It’s been happening for decades!

CamelsForChristmas · 01/01/2025 19:40

Liar. The VAT on schooling is costing me an extra 7 k a year.

The rise in NI and minimum wage has meant my workplace ( a charity) has said they are unlikely to be able to last beyond the next quarter as we were quite close to the bone anyway.

BobnLen · 01/01/2025 19:40
