Can't berate Starmer for this but think some parents will be aghast.

Was working all day and missed this.

Unbelievable.

Thousands of children will lose their school place and he's having a quiet place for his son funded?

CustardCreams2 · 25/09/2024 20:20

80smonster · 25/09/2024 20:17

Worse probably. Starmer is more likely to have an NHS ward cleared and himself fast tracked through the VIP entrance.

Absolutely 😂

AgnesX · 25/09/2024 20:20

Like every other teen, what's the matter with his own bedroom in the familial home?

Or have they all moved into Downing St wholesale?

OnTheBoardwalk · 25/09/2024 20:20

What’s the release the sausage thing?

I could obviously Google it but would rather have the mumsnet explanation

shmivorytower · 25/09/2024 20:18

i can’t believe what I am reading. I honestly don’t see what the problem is. Election was called (earlier than expected), Starmer moved whole family to a friend’s place that was empty to safeguard the privacy and wellbeing of his children (a justified worry given the tone of some of the responses on this thread), he declared it. The end.

Labour interns on night patrol?

LlynTegid · 25/09/2024 20:21

Given the way some children of Prime Ministers have been treated in the past, I think this is reasonable.

I agree with the Prime Minister's wish to keep his children out of the limelight 100%.

TizerorFizz · 25/09/2024 20:25

To those who say it doesn’t matter - it does. Politicians who criticise others for taking freebies and then do exactly the same tends to put people off politics and politicians. We need more people to engage, not less. We cannot afford to see any more of this attitude of taking because you can. Not paying because others give you what you want. It’s not good enough. People feel let down and rightly so. No one minds small gifts but this whacking amount when not even PM is not acceptable. Did anyone truly understand Starmer was doing this? I bet they didn’t before he was elected. Just like the WFA removal. It feels underhand and deceitful. Just what you expect a politician to do - and that’s the whole problem!

shmivorytower · 25/09/2024 20:25

No @80smonster . I actually am a member of a different party. Not a conservative, though they will be delighted to see the left cannibalise itself. Like usual.

GoldenSunflowers · 25/09/2024 20:25

I’m waiting for the gold wallpaper and floral curtains before I lose all respect. For the time being, his kid getting a fancy quiet place gets a pass.

Ilovetowander · 25/09/2024 20:26

I can understand him wanting a quiet place free of disturbance for his son's revision. However, the donation along with all the other donations just seems hypocritical given the stance he took against the Tory donations. I don't think KS has come over at all well in the last two months.

Covent Garden is many things, but peaceful it is not. There is zero justification for this, bar human greed.

dottiehens · 25/09/2024 20:27

What is not a surprise is that the usual suspects who were on this site for years on the Tories case. Now come to support Starmer and his hypocrisy.

GoldenSunflowers · 25/09/2024 20:28

Viewfrommyhouse · 25/09/2024 20:26

Why?

Because one is for the kid, the other was pure vanity, and the taxpayer paid for it.

Surely the child had their own bedroom in the family house?

Are we going round in circles here? He had space but needed quiet.

I doubt anyone would disagree with you. But the fact is, he could've funded this 'study space' without it being donated. Although if you really believe it was for that purpose, I'm genuinely embarrassed for you. All KS has done is use his son as an excuse for a freebie. Hardly keeping him out of the limelight.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 25/09/2024 20:30

He could have shut the bloody door and used some noise cancelling headphones, the way we all do.

How noisy is a house? I mean they didn't have media in there with him

Another76543 · 25/09/2024 20:32

Nordione1 · 25/09/2024 15:05

You, or any of your donors, should not be able to buy educational advantage for your child. All children should have access to luxury penthouses to get some peace to revise if it's noisy at home. I thought this was one of Labour's basis rules.

That’s correct. ALL children should have equal opportunities. There should be no “privilege”. Parents trying to ensure their child reaches their full potential, whilst others have to struggle, should be penalised through the tax system. Those rules don’t apply to members of the Labour Party though, or their children.

Quite.

All he's achieved is actually thrusting his son into the limelight.

Since when would any interviews/visits/paparrazi/journalism be conducted in the son’s bedroom?

Lol, yeah, of course, it was for his kid.

AdoraBell · 25/09/2024 20:34

What about all the 16yr olds who have to re-take GCSEs? Why don’t they get a quiet penthouse to revise?

Because they might want some Taylor Swift tickets next.

Oh actually....
