Can't berate Starmer for this but think some parents will be aghast.

You were relatively rude to another poster. Labour supporters aren’t very comfortable unless they feel they occupy the moral high ground, which isn’t looking very plausible. Respectfully, I think your mock indignation is laughable.

God, this is so true.

It’s actually amusing seeing them trying to cough and splutter and make pathetic excuses for what has already turned into a shitshow of a government.

Labour are just wolves in sheep’s clothing but who also try to occupy some moralistic pedestal in which they talk down to those who don’t think like them. They are the biggest hypocrites of the lot.

I can’t wait to see them fall.

Are any of you able to address the policies of the current Labour government rather than continually looking to deflect?

This is for Iwish…

Not an educational advantage, no. A way to prevent an educational disadvantage, maybe.

An advantage over anyone who didn't have somewhere quiet to study.

An advantage over anyone who didn't have luxurious relaxed surroundings. Because his bedroom wasn't enough?

It's an advantage. KS doesn't have and educational disadvantage. So there was nothing to prevent.

Let's be honest it wasn't for his son. That's why they were there after the GCSEs had finished. That's why his wife and daughter were also there.

And he has stayed there before. While everyone else was told to stay at home, while he told people to stay at home.....the family were there then as well. Whilst trying to pretend he was at home.

Which house was he outside when he was filmed clapping for the NHS?

Either he did this to give his son an educational advantage or he is a liar.

And when we look at anti bribery laws, it isn’t just money as said, it is anything of high value to the recipient, be it attending a prestige sports event,,like starmers season ticket upgrade, or a holiday, travel in a private jet, clothing etc.

becsude if you accept the gift, then you may need to give something back, effectively it is a bribe, to do something , in this instance politically, or use your power to benefit the giver.

it is illegal. Starmer is a lawyer, he knows it is illegal. He knows why you can’t accept high value gifts due to the perception of corruption.

and yet, him, his wife and raynor started accepting before they even won. And carried on taking after.

It's not illegal.
You can argue about the morality of- and I don't think gifts to individuals should be allowed myself - but it's not illegal.

Notaflippinclue · 27/09/2024 10:46

Give the pensioners their fuel allowance leave the PS fees alone - draw a line under it and start governing - we all make mistakes

cardibach · 27/09/2024 10:47

Josephinesnapoleon · 26/09/2024 16:01

And talking of anti bribery. Wiki gives a succinct overview.

In 2024, The Guardian reported that Alli had donated £500,000 to the party since 2020, as well as giving Starmer personal donations worth over £50,000

In August 2024, The Times reported that Alli had been given unrestricted access to 10 Downing Street, uncommon for anyone not formally employed in the Prime Minister's office, and that he had held a reception for party donors in the Downing Street garden.[37]

He was also reported to have gifted Starmer nearly £16,200 of free clothing, which initially was not properly declared, while Starmer’s wife, Victoria, was given £5,000 of free clothing, which at first was not declared.[38] The Daily Telegraph referred to Alli's loan of a "swanky" apartment to the Starmers, with a value of £20,000, as "donor-gate."[39] The Telegraph also reported that Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner faced an investigation by the parliamentary standards commissioner over the use of Alli's $2.5-million New York apartment.[40]

the whiff of corruption is now a stench.

So what has Starmer done I return? Got anything? It's not corruption or bribery unless Lots Alli gets some sort of financial gain. I'd imagine as a Labour peer he already has the access he needed, it's not buying that.
I don't think gifts to individuals should be permitted (to the party is different, it's how politics is funded) but there's no corruption here.

justasking111 · 27/09/2024 11:00

Another poster last night led me to an interesting consortium who buy up companies, paying billions.

They've bought up pet stores and veterinary services all over the states. They've also bought up hospitals all over Asia.

Imagine if they started buying hospitals here, they would transform them both bricks and mortar, services, staffing, IT. Starmer spoke of digitising the NHS I wonder if he has some new friends, as Blair did and does.

Let's face it throwing money at the NHS is like bailing out a boat with a leaky bucket.

Things are going to change in ways we don't know yet.

Opponents of Labour should be sensible in their criticism (especially as most Labour supporters aren’t when they attack the Tories). In which case it should be said that the Tories moved to end non dom status, but were to introduce some softening conditions, largely about trust-based exemption against IHT, as I understand it.

Labour said it would do away with these ‘loopholes’. Now it seems that the OBR is likely to conclude that a harsher non dom regime won’t raise anything. And the wealthy are reported to be moving out.

If Labour just said “fair dos, we’ll leave it where the Tories planned to” I’d respect them for that. It would come wrapped up in political excuses, but that’s the same for all parties. Even so, it would at least be creditable.

I fear that changes of course are off the table now, though, after all the bad press about freebies etc.

The point is this - investors crave certainty. They already face sufficient investment risk etc.

The damage is done - nobody with any material wealth will trust Labour.

They are an embarrassment to left wing politics, the state of politics in the UK is absolutely shameful, finger pointing and no accountability left or right. I’m not going to be patronised about the choices I have made for my child, by someone who is also willing to buy educational advantage and is paying nothing for it. Shame on you Starmer - and anyone feeble minded enough to cast a vote for him. Don’t think you’ll be waiting long for the fall @Dollybantree

Seconded.

justasking111 · 27/09/2024 11:12

There is no opposition at the moment, labour objectors get slung into no mans land. Conservatives in tatters which is well deserved. A mixed bag of everyone else.
The unions totally hoodwinked by Starmer, kept in the dark about WFA. Think they'll be kept in the dark for the next few years.

We just have to suck it up for now. I'm off to the shops where it will hopefully be warmer than my home.

Seconded.

Baron Alli if you’re listening and would like this conversation shut down, I would accept 15k per year, now of course I couldn’t accept any cash directly, but you could pay the prep school directly if that works for you?

Absolutely shameful. To think we used to be able to feel superior in the face of American politics. That ship has well and truly sailed.

There has been a huge amount of this on here

And lo their policies are duds after all, as said pre GE

I genuinely think it’s dawning on many of those who voted Labour in July - just how bad this government are proving to be.

Correct, the dog whistle policies have to stop and real leadership begin. So far the politics of envy has been demonstrated nicely, but this has only widened the gap between the wealthy and poor and will continue to do so. Not very socialist if you ask me.

The media is the only opposition atm

The electorate were keen on that though, so here we are

nearlylovemyusername · 27/09/2024 11:37

So what has Starmer done I return?

Not just Starmer, the entire Labour party - look at Alli's relationship with Stonewall and then Labour's stance on women's rights. That's what we know so far. As for the rest - given that civil servant who leaked Sue Gray's salary is being pressured to exit, we just don't have visibility of what's going on.

I am so sick of these posts now.
There was no 20k. He had to put a value on it because he, rightly, had to declare it.
His son went and studied at the home of a friend. Because he could not do it at home due to the constant press attention and distractions. Yes Keir Starmer has rich friends. Anyone who has had the careeers he has had will be the same.
I genuinely do not understand what he has done wrong here?

Why would the press be near Keir's home when he's on the campaign trail doing press events?

And the dates don't match up to the exams so it was just a lie
