However, I think that Starmer has been incredibly stupid and/or very badly advised over this expenses issue. He has done nothing wrong, but his behaviour is not what he led us to believe he would do, and I am incredibly exasperated and disappointed.

In my opinion, he should admit that he made a massive misjudgement, and agree to take no more freebies from now on.

Apart from anything else anything which allows people to say "They are all as bad as each other" (they aren't) is a distraction from the real issues the country faces. He should be laser focussed on repairing the damage caused by 14 years of Tory misrule. Not scrambling around dealing with peripheral stuff.
Starmer-say sorry. Don't do it again. And get back to work.

10yr gilt is similar to last November, considerably lower than last August 2023.

Who was in power then?

Yield now is almost identical to july 24.

30yr gilt yield is similar to that of most of last year.

Any v small increases are more to do with increasing yields in the USA.

OK, look at the spread between UK and German 10 year paper.

Let me know what you see.

I shall tell you.

The spread is widening - about 198 bps - for context it blew out to 222 bps after Truss’ mini budget in 2022.

Reeves is planning to relax her borrowing rules to fund increased investment in the October 30 Budget, the 10-year gilt yield has climbed from 3.75% in mid-September to 4.22%

The markets will punish her on 30th with a sell-off if she screws up.

Sunak did not sit in the stands. He and his security team sat in the director's box.

He was on TV in the stands.

With literally hundreds of other football fans around him?

Photos from Southampton games attended by Rishi Sunak do NOT show him sitting in the stands among the general public, but in cordoned off seats, as Sir Keir Starmer does now.

It's for safety reasons, nobody would expect a PM to sit in the stands with his security team.

But let’s face it - if they are going to investigate the sale of Oasis ticket racket then going to Taylor Swift with your teen is kind of understanding the public. So I think they just need to justify more.

They couldn't really justify Starmer's wife going to see Taylor Swift twice though (or even a third time as Starmer subsequently declared a third set of tickets for a different date);
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/starmer-lady-victoria-keir-wife-taylor-swift-labour-donation-b2614735.html

Starmer has now paid for the second and third set of tickets after the media focus.

Creepy question…

Rummly · 12/10/2024 20:32

The Starmers went to see T-Swizzle three times?

Good lord, how much of a fan is he? That’s obsessive.

To be fair I think Keir only went once - his wife at least twice. I don't know who used the third set of tickets.

You may want to refrain asking other posters such personal information - not a good look, frankly.

His son doubtless used the third set. So that he’d have somewhere to revise.

I think the point’s been answered. There’s no need to be confrontational.

Deflection. Also, if you are implying that I reported the post, I didn't.

Rummly · 13/10/2024 03:32

There are only two posts left. But Lord Alli has said he’d buy some more space on the thread for Labour supporters. Apparently he has a pass to MNHQ.

Rummly · 13/10/2024 03:35

Oh no! The pass has been cancelled and the money paid back - well, a fraction of it - so no special freebie posts for Labour fans I’m afraid.
