However, I think that Starmer has been incredibly stupid and/or very badly advised over this expenses issue. He has done nothing wrong, but his behaviour is not what he led us to believe he would do, and I am incredibly exasperated and disappointed.

In my opinion, he should admit that he made a massive misjudgement, and agree to take no more freebies from now on.

Apart from anything else anything which allows people to say "They are all as bad as each other" (they aren't) is a distraction from the real issues the country faces. He should be laser focussed on repairing the damage caused by 14 years of Tory misrule. Not scrambling around dealing with peripheral stuff.
Starmer-say sorry. Don't do it again. And get back to work.

Voters don’t appear to be as repulsed as they were by the Tories.

https://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/homepage.html

Starmers personal rating is on the floor.

Labour are making one unforced error after the other. The bond markets are already punishing them pre budget. Some high profile investors n have pulled out of the Investment Conference.

Does anyone know what exactly was Mrs.Starmer's disability?

Tongue in cheek, I can think of at least one….

iwishihadknownmore · 12/10/2024 07:09

Thats the issue with click bait headlines believed by the gullible, DP World have pulled out of the Investment summit, the investment will still go ahead, after all, its money and comments about P&O and a dispute 2 years ago, doesn't change the numbers, its either viable or its not.

Are you in favour of Fire and Rehire? straight answer and no diversion please.

Are DP still practicing that policy?

iwishihadknownmore · 12/10/2024 07:33

Rockalittle78 · 12/10/2024 07:20

Are DP still practicing that policy?

Err, they ve already done it!

But for the 800 workers fired then rehired are still under the new worse conditions, DPW haven't reverted to the their previous T&C's so yes, for the 800 workers affected, the policy is on-going.

Here is what Conservative transport chair Huw Merriman, & a former transport Secretary said : “a tale of corporate thuggery where a huge company thinks it can break the law with impunity”, adding that he hoped the government would seek swift legal remedies against P&O Ferries and legislate to tighten up law

Which of course, the then Tory Govt never did :(

A recent poll showed one point between them anyway

These are unforced errors squandering that lead. No external factors just Labour

iwishihadknownmore · 12/10/2024 07:44

Polling now is irrelevant, there wont be a GE for another 5 years, so no matter what straws Tories clutch too, all of this will be forgotten by then.

Tories still don't get why they were almost annihilated in July - 14 years of disaster, a country left in such a state that AE waits are causing 14000, yes 14000 additional deaths each and every year.

& 7.6m on waiting lists, almost 3m on long term sick, all caused by the Tories, no external factors.

Their response is "Starmer had a free suit" no explanations, no apologies - this is exactly why in 2029, they will lose again :)

Sorry, this is patently untrue and trotted out by socialists on repeat.

Back bench rebellions, by elections, constituent prssure, media pressure, markets - all shape policy including u-turns.

Im surprised you haven’t deduced that from
Labours first 100 days.

Interesting.

As is this:

However, Downing Street quickly distanced itself from Haigh’s comments, with a source saying it was the transport secretary’s personal view.

So whats "untrue" ? no issues with NHS/GPs etc etc etc?

I said pre election, that what will do for the Tories is peoples lived experiences, in no particular order: pot holes, GP s, AE, police, schools, public services.

Good to see though the Tories still don't get why they were rejected, long may it continue.

It’s interesting another post linked to polling anyway.

To squander a lead so quickly isn’t good for Labour however it’s painted.

No, the Tories became unrecognisable to me in their shift to the left, amongst others.

The lived experiences is an interesting point because Labour have made unfunded promises, and subsequent hooky policy, which will consign them to one term followed by another three term Tory government.

Labour are the worst possible custodians of the economy, and when all is said and done - it’s all about money.

Give me any policy issue - it’s money.

Hope springs eternal!!!

The Tories have totally wrecked the UK and managed to do it whilst increasing debt & tax to post war highs, no mean feat!!

It wont be forgotten easily & with the Tories atm going far right with Jenrik and Badenoch - with Leave ECHR, crack down on maternity rights & lower investment in public services, their future as a small far right party along with Reform, is assured.

Its your denial of the facts thats funny, in a sad sort of way and its this thats widespread in what remains of the tory party & assures the parties destruction.
Which on this somewhat chilly morning, is a rather warming thought!

The Royal college of Emergency Medicine should help you.

i just came back from a run - you should try exercising. It’s good for the old grey matter!

DuncinToffee · 12/10/2024 10:37

In 2022, P&O Ferries fired 800 workers via pre-recorded video, replaced them with cheaper overseas labour paid under £5 an hour.

Labour is changing the law. The Employment Rights Bill and Seafarers’ Wages Act is closing the very loopholes that allowed P&O to treat workers like disposable assets. From December 2024, companies like P&O will be legally required to pay at least the National Minimum Wage and notify the government when they plan mass redundancies.

As for the “£1bn loss”, that’s nothing more than a PLANNED investment, not money already committed. This isn’t some massive infrastructure project being scrapped; P&O hasn’t invested a penny of that £1bn yet. They’re pulling the plug because Labour’s legislation forces them to operate like a responsible employer instead of running roughshod over workers.

P&O is absolutely not pulling out because Haigh and Rayner hurt their feelings. They’re pulling out because they can no longer pay workers £4.87 an hour and dodge fair employment practices.
