No questions the Tories were bad, but Labour are on another level.

Are you still happy you voted them in? Be honest now, you are having your doubts aren’t you?

If not, you really should be.

Funny, who knew?

Excuse me?

@PandoraSox I'm sure you will have spotted this already but the figure even in the article comes from Henley and Partners, whose business is to encourage migrants out of Britain. So not to be taken too seriously.

HNW are pretty sophisticated - most wouldn’t fall for such ‘encouragement’ versus the ‘painful’ budget coming.

EasternStandard · 17/09/2024 11:22

I don't think they are there to encourage they just do well when a less favourable gov comes into power

Although I have seen many posts re 'good riddance' and we don't need them, so it's interesting to see a slight turn on that to we don't believe it. There may be consensus it is bad for the UK after all.

Yes, a couple of posters on here have said ‘good riddance’ - a strange sentiment, in a period of demographic and social change, when they seek increased funding for the public sector…

Very odd.

It's interesting to see this row back so soon. IoD, CBI, Iceland boss, Carol ; they were bad at contributing to this mess pre GE with support but not long to see that recede

If no growth the backlash will get more heated

Thats hilarious, you think there was no mess pre GE under the Tories???

Austerity, Brexit, Bojo, Truss, unfunded NI cuts? not too mention a level of distrust in the Govt that was unprecedented.

They didn't go from a 80 set majority to a 200 plus loss because they were competent.

What mess? they've not even had a budget yet.

Ditto.

Ah no wonder it was easy! You're a dual national!
Not comparable to average people trying to move countries!

Oh come on! They are a business! Their goal is profit, not to create a cosy place for people afraid of Labour.

EasternStandard · 17/09/2024 13:05

I didn't say anything about 'cosy'

My point and the pp was too is that HNW don't need to be 'encouraged' but they will use services like that

If that company has a bumper year it'll be thanks to Labour

iwishihadknownmore · 17/09/2024 13:10

Some people really didn't like Labour winning.

Its almost as if they want the new Govt to fail and hence the UK.

Its sad so many are gleeful at the prospect.

I'm the first to be critical of some of the things they've done but i doubt too many multi millionaires will be leaving the UK because of the loss of WFA.

EasternStandard · 17/09/2024 13:10

I am enjoying the uptick in ! in those last few posts

I'd suggest keeping some of your exclamations for when growth stalls you'll probably need them more

Your paraphrasing is not great

Can you not see that it entirely depends on how the company gather their data

eg 9500 people phoning to enquire about leaving the UK does not mean that 9500 people will leave

Also enquiries may disproportionately increase in the face of the 'trauma' of a labour victory which after a little calm consideration results in no action/ finding other ways to
manage tax

EasternStandard · 17/09/2024 13:19

I laughed at that Guardian article and said if they have a bumper year as a company they can thank Labour

No mention of phone calls etc

Well they would say that wouldn't they?

What did they say about their data gathering - do you know?

No mention of how they collected the data or analysis of it. It’s meaningless.

I laughed at the Guardian article as well, as it was from before the election. So these are people who were supposedly looking at relocating during a Tory government, as so many (as pointed out in the article) had already done...

MellersSmellers · 17/09/2024 13:49

SinisterBumFacedCat · 12/09/2024 09:19

I’m disappointed but not entirely surprised that the first people they targeted were the pensioners. Early release of violent prisoners I was not expecting. Comparing this to the early days of the Blair government there’s not much positivity. It’s like it’s not the same party. I didn’t vote for them this election but previously was a lifelong Labour voter. I couldn’t vote for them as they are now.

Oh come on.
The average jail time served is 50% of sentence. The Tories already had a plan to reduce this to 40% as a one-off measure to address the prison crisis (not having addressed it for the last 14 yrs). So Labour has just implemented the plan. Nit great, but would have happened even if the Toties had got in again.
Everyone just needs to hold their horses. Labours only been in Govt 2 months. They can't undo 14 yrs of sh*t in that time.

Ummmmmm let me think! er You? everything you ve so far written is about Labour failing.

A complete failure to recognise why Labour are in power and the Tories just 50 seats ahead of the LibDems.

EasternStandard · 17/09/2024 14:00

Just to correct one post as it's far off reality if Labour really do stuff up and there is capital flight and / or lack of growth it'll be the opposite of 'glee'

People will be pissed off, ok maybe not these heavy Labour threads but 'difficult decisions' might be welcomed for pensioners or people might feel good about 'pain for the broadest shoulders' but if pain and difficulty grow in scope I'd say those lines will wear out pretty quickly

This line is also not really the case and far off what is being said

Summernightsinthe21stcentury · 17/09/2024 14:13

In the run up to the GE there were multiple threads about capital and brain drains if Labour were to win. I don't think there is any evidence to suggest that will be the case at all, except perhaps the hilarious article in the Guardian that others have debunked.
Again let's get realistic here 9500 = 0.01% of the population of the uk and they are probably the very people who have been avoiding tax as far as possible if they are that well off.
