Surprised at the lack of door knocking by candidates

Not one single politician has knocked on our door. I am a little irritated by this. We have a Labour MP and a Labour run council. I think they are taking our constituency for granted. Anyone else surprised by the lack of canvassing? Or maybe they only actually knock on doors when they are being filmed for TV! Maybe they are all scared of our reactions!

I have also read that the safe seat Labour MPs are sent to canvass elsewhere. I think they should canvass in their own constituencies

We've only had Labour here. Probably quite predictable as we're a long term Conservative seat. Conservative getting at least double Labour votes (second party) in previous elections. Its looking like a Labour seat this time so maybe everyone else has decided to put their resources elsewhere. Not even a leaflet from other parties.

lavenderlou · 23/06/2024 17:27

I am in a traditionally safe Tory seat and nobody has knocked here either.

HelpMeGetThrough · 23/06/2024 17:27

I'm relieved, I don't want the buggers on the doorstep.

HurdyGurdy19 · 23/06/2024 17:30

We've had plentiful leaflets this time, but I can't remember the last time a candidate knocked at our door.

We're in such a staunch Conservative area, they probably think it's a waste of time/foregone conclusion.

Piggywaspushed · 23/06/2024 17:32

No,no one here . Very different from the recent by election. The boundaries have been redrawn and all the campaigning has gone over to a seat Labour want to take.

Only one solitary LD leaflet.

urbanbuddha · 23/06/2024 17:35

I know, it’s weird. Labour marginal here but I think that was worked out before the former Labour MP decided to stand as an Independent. Total radio silence from Labour with only one leaflet from the Lib Dem’s and two mail shots from the Tory.

BlackberrySky · 23/06/2024 17:37

I am in a marginal seat and can't keep the bloody door knockers away! I get about half a tree in leaflets every day as well.

Justbetweenus · 23/06/2024 17:37

Incumbent Tory here who’s likely to lose. We’ve had Labour knocking for the first time ever (and the Tories - they always do the rounds).

Arlott · 23/06/2024 17:37

I’m in a labour seat (currently - traditionally Lib Dem) and I’ve not had a single election knock or leaflet. It’s like every one has given up in the labour seats

toastofthetown · 23/06/2024 17:39

We’ve only had Labour knock on the door here. Most material through the door has been Labour, I think one Green Party and one Conservative. I’m in a Conservative area now, but the boundaries have been redrawn and now this seat has a real chance of turning to Labour. But we’ve already cast our postal votes now, so it’s a bit late now if anyone else comes knocking.

incessantpunditry · 23/06/2024 17:40

Same here. They were all over us like a rash last time (by-election). We were getting endless flyers through the letter box as well, but this time round they seem to be opting for radio silence.

Anewuser · 23/06/2024 17:41

We live in one of roads where we get everyone knocking and delivering leaflets (takeaways/window cleaning/key cutting etc) but this election, not one party or leaflet. Guessing they can’t be bothered. I looked up our candidates today and out of the six standing, I’m now feeling politically homeless.

Hoppinggreen · 23/06/2024 17:41

Our Tory candidate phoned me a couple of weeks ago, no idea how he got my mobile number and I saw a Labour person (no idea if it was the actual candidate) knock on our door via the RING but we were all out

CrepuscularCritter · 23/06/2024 17:41

Pretty safe Labour seat here. Labour have door knocked, plus 4 leaflet so far, and 1 LibDem leaflet. I imagine there may be more action on the run up to the 4th.

greengreyblue · 23/06/2024 17:42

Maybe they came while you were out?

Setyoufree · 23/06/2024 17:42

Lib Dem area here. I get constantly spammed with post through the door from lib Dems but sadly no door knockers

SoEmbarrassed2024 · 23/06/2024 17:44

Nothing here either, and only one leaflet. Apparently they don't give a shit about votes here (which given our previously very safe Tory seat has had huge boundary changes seems a bit shortsighted!)

comedycentral · 23/06/2024 17:46

I'd say it's probably a massive waste of time with lots of people out working or enjoying the weather. Plus, mumsnetters don't answer the door apparently 😁

CirreltheSquirrel · 23/06/2024 17:47

Safe labour seat here, we've had one labour leaflet and nothing else. Our MP has been campaigning in other constituencies as well as this one I think. I don't think I've ever had anyone knock on the door in the 20 years I've lived here but we usually get more leaflets than this.

BlackCatsAreBrilliant · 23/06/2024 17:48

Traditionally Labour seat here.

I've had no one knock at the door. And the only leaflet I've had is from Reform. I'm feeling quite irritated by their apparent apathy.

Echobelly · 23/06/2024 17:49

We're a seat that's probably going to swing Labour from Tory. Both have been round, the Tories had the misfortune that my husband, who is much less polite than me, answered the door. 😂

Fourchairs · 23/06/2024 17:06

I have also read that the safe seat Labour MPs are sent to canvass elsewhere. I think they should canvass in their own constituencies

Why? What does it matter to you?

Canvassing is something the candidates/parties do to benefit themselves - surely it makes sense that they'd use their limited resources in the most tactically advantageous way.

If there are particular issues you want to discuss, there are plenty of ways to get in touch with your candidates.

LaPalmaLlama · 23/06/2024 17:50

Not a whisper of one of any shade. Can’t really blame them- I can’t imagine they get much reasoned debate vs abuse

Validus · 23/06/2024 17:52

I’ve met the Labour MP outside a school in the neighbouring constituency last week (lovely conversation). My house is in a different constituency, safe Lib Dem - but they’ve sent 5 leaflets and counting. nothing from anyone else.
