Is Angela Raynor a liar or is it all anti Labour media bias?

1000 replies

CormorantStrikesBack · 10/03/2024 12:33

I’m well aware how anti Labour a lot of the main stream media seem to be so I wasn’t paying much attention previously to all the stuff about how she should have paid capital gains tax on her house, etc. she was adamant that she didn’t need to.

So it seems like she said it was her main residence so not liable for capital gains tax. But her husband and kids lived in a house a short distance away apparently for the first five years of their marriage which is unusual. A neighbour who lived next to her “husband’s” house said it was the main family home and Angela definitely lived there.

I’ll be sad if she has lied. Always thought she was on the side of the ordinary person. I guess the police/tax man might have a hard time proving anything though regardless of the neighbour’s statement. If all bills, etc were in the individual names there’s no evidence.

Why does that logic not apply outside Labour?

Has the DM had headlines running for days about anyone outside Labour?

I don’t follow.

The way they are going after Angela Rayner, at least 4 days of headlines and Dan Hodges is on day 5 with his twitter threads.

Has this happened to anyone outside of Labour?

Yes. Many people.

Oh, yes, here:

Day 5. And despite Angela Rayner being Rachel Reeve's friend, if - as Rayner claims - she received advice her tax arrangements were within the rules, why has she continued to lie about her living arrangements. And did she tell the truth to her tax experts when they made their assessment.

I think we would all like to know the answers to these questions.

Why are unproven accusations against any non-Labour people not ‘nothing to see here’. Sunak’s wife, for example, or his father-in-law, or any of the allegedly corrupt covid contracts?

Why are you doubting that she told the truth to her tax adviser?

AR was investigated by the Police and they deemed no further action, only on the request of a senior Tory did they say they would re investigate.... can more normal members of the public order the Police around like this?

I haven't called for anyone to step down but plenty of Tories do step down or resign the party whip when the weight of evidence does become too great.

Even Mone admitted she and her husband shouldn't have got those PPE contracts & that the Tories are using her to cover up further corruption.... Hancock and a Publican....?

Its a matter of fact that Sunaks wife benefits from Infosys still trading in Russia & that the standards committee criticised the Government on not disclosing her financial interests in childcare.... why?

The problem the UK has is the PM is the ultimate arbiter on what action should take place.....

According to a Sky investigation, its not just luxury goods getting into Russia, its heavy machinery and components used in weapon systems... this is easily remedied yet the Tories have allowed it to continue, again why?

Not surprised. She’s this incarnation of the Labour Party’s John Prescott; a nod to the party’s working class roots, who’s actually as much on the make as the rest of them.

Used to be Two Jags, now it’s Two Houses. Same shit, different decade.

What utter nonsense!

AR has never owned TWO properties, she was on the title deeds of the house she sold and that was the extent of her "property" portfolio

That chip on your shoulder is looking rather crispy!

She didn’t own 2 houses. She married somebody who also owned a house which meant that they could only claim private residence relief on one property. They could have claimed the relief on both properties if they had not got married or she had sold the house earlier.

Merrymouse · 11/04/2024 08:09

Also the combined value of the 2 houses when sold was £272k in 2015/16.

They weren’t property magnates.

I'd like to know the answer as to why a 56 year old man needed a party with cake when 5 year olds weren't allowed one. Looks like I'm never getting an answer to that question 😂

Never worth engaging with her, zero objectivity.

He is still banging on about HER living arrangements even though it has been explained to him that absent a nomination, her husband’s house would be the main residence because it is the house where they BOTH lived, regardless of what she tweeted.

His confusion just adds weight to the assumption that if an error was made it was a genuine mistake, because people find the rules confusing.

"I'd like to know the answer as to why a 56 year old man needed a party with cake when 5 year olds weren't allowed one. Looks like I'm never getting an answer to that question"

Oh that's easy it's either because he had a death wish and didn't care about dying from Covid or he knew that in reality the risk of dying from Covid for the majority was fairly low and as a result (plus a fair dollop of arrogance) he thought he could get away with ignoring the rules everyone else had to follow.

As for AR the facts are not in nor the HMRC investigation (if any) is completed. But if she has as some alleged fraudulently sought to avoid CGT then is most likely because (plus a fair dollop of arrogance) she thought she would get away with it and not pay CGT like everyone else.

AdamRyan · 11/04/2024 08:46

As for AR, it's like "Keir's beer" all over again. The police have said there is no case to answer, there is nothing happening with HMRC, but that's not good enough for the Tories who are desperate for a "Labour are just as bad" story to deflect from their own bad behaviour.

It's so obvious a child could see it.

Merrymouse · 11/04/2024 08:53

HMRC would regard this as an error.

Again, you only have to look at the wide spread misunderstanding of this situation to see that mistakes are easy to make.

Also anyone who knew about CGT would have known that it would be easy to avoid in this case through better tax planning.

Tauranga · 11/04/2024 08:58

I recently had to pay a capital gains tax. It is very clear Angela was trying not to pay, and frankly she nose dived in my estimation. The common man is bashed left right and sideways when we try to heave ourselves out of poverty and try to make some money. We pay tax - on everything. When I read that someone in political office is defrauding the tax man and getting away with it, I have no confidence in the UK system. You can bet this is a fraud tried by many many people and if I had tried it I would have been caught and dealt with
To those saying the Tories are worse, maybe so, but I have the ability to be critical of the Labour party without mentioning any other parties.
I live in Scotland and people are sick of crooked lying criminal political figures who bend the laws to suit themselves and then stand up and lecture us proles.
If someone is in Political office they should abide by the law. They have to lead by example.

Edited

No it’s not clear that she was trying not to pay and it’s not clear that any tax was due.

Your post just confirms that people can pay CGT or seek advice about CGT and still be unclear about all the rules.
