I was reading an article in the Spectator this morning. Interesting to hear what people think.

I think he is really boring. There is nothing dynamic about him. Unfortunately, I also think he's morally corrupt. I don't want him to be prime minister but I want to vote Labour it's a conundrum.

Maireas · 29/12/2023 09:37

Oh ffs. Boris wasn't boring - do you want him back?
I remember at the time of the 2010 election I knew someone who voted Conservative because she thought Gordon Brown was boring. Utterly ridiculous.

AIstolemylunch · 29/12/2023 09:38

I don't care that he's boring. I do care that he's inept, ineffective and presides over a cabinet that includes people who think men can have cervixes.

ACynicalDad · 29/12/2023 09:38

I don’t like him, I quite like Sunak but there are too many awful Tories, they need a clear out. Nobody I want to vote for, will be a least worst option. Pity the Lib Dems are a joke.

Yep

Philandbill · 29/12/2023 09:39

He is dull but I'd a thousand times rather have dull than the Tories for another four years. Angela Rayner isn't dull though.

OliviaFlaversham · 29/12/2023 09:40

He is dull but that comes very low in the list of why I won’t be voting for him.

Vinvertebrate · 29/12/2023 09:40

Agree with @AIstolemylunch I’m afraid. I’ll be holding my nose whoever I vote for.

AnnaMagnani · 29/12/2023 09:41

I think boring is a selling point TBH.

Look at the chaos Boris created. We need someone competent and interested in effective government not self promotion.

LambriniBobinIsleworth · 29/12/2023 09:42

I knew he was married— to Victoria— has two kids whose names aren't in the public sphere and that he was named for Keir Hardie. I knew where he was MP for too. I suggest the writer just isn't a fan of KS or is being deliberately obtuse.

sashagabadon · 29/12/2023 09:43

Yes he is, also unoriginal with terrible political instincts and judgement.
I think he is just the vehicle for a Tony Blair revival.

FestiveFruitloop · 29/12/2023 09:43

He's somewhat staid, yes, but to me that's reassuring. Look at the damage so-called 'charismatic' leaders have done worldwide over the centuries. If a politician is too slick it generally makes me trust them less.

SutWytTi · 29/12/2023 09:44

No. I think boring aka sensible would be a relief after the chaos.

You have to vote with your head really.

I feel those whining about 'boring' sound like teenagers.

Charisma is overrated.

0palfrootee · 29/12/2023 09:47

I'm not looking for excitement in a prime minister tbh. My bar is pretty low after the past few years but I'll gladly take competent and dull. I really just want some grown-ups running the show.

Maireas · 29/12/2023 09:47

Anyway, you don't vote for the PM, that can change during a government, so the best thing is to vote for an MP who you think will serve your constituency well, and/or contribute to a majority for a particular party.

TinyYellow · 29/12/2023 09:48

Boring would be fine if he looked like he knew what he was doing and had principles he was prepared to stand by.

Hollyhead · 29/12/2023 09:49

I want boring and centrist. He’s got my vote. And I like Angela Raynor too - if you’re not convinced then listen to her interview on the Leading podcast.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 29/12/2023 09:49

I think anyone who votes for someone based on how fun they seem is an idiot. Who cares how boring he is ffs, criticise him on substance.

Morally corrupt? How so?

yossell · 29/12/2023 09:50

I'm no fan of KS but the current world-wide fad for choosing prime ministers on account of how 'entertaining' they are is creating some exceedingly dangerous governments. And I'm not going to take seriously anything about Labour from the fanatically right-wing Spectator.

Care to expand on why you think he's morally corrupt?

PostChristmasPaunch · 29/12/2023 09:51

Only if we've all become too addicted to the adrenaline that goes with seeing what fuck up the current crop are going to do next....

beguilingeyes · 29/12/2023 09:51

Gawd, I long for boring. Just an end to the constant drama. He's a politician, not an entertainer.
I think our politics started to go wrong when people started to treat it like the X Factor.
Also, this is The Spectator. They aren't exactly balanced. This is one of their recent headlines
"Did the Romans handle slavery better than the Americans?" WTAF?

Jf20 · 29/12/2023 09:51

He’s little to no charisma, and is failing to mount a credible defense. If labour win it’s as people voted against the tories rather than for labour. If the tories change leader, labour is in trouble again.

Kendodd · 29/12/2023 09:51

Yeah, bring back Liz Truss, she was a right laugh. Hopefully the next PM could start a war with France to cheer us all up.
