I was reading an article in the Spectator this morning. Interesting to hear what people think.

I agree with other gc fems - I will hold my nose and vote Labour as I have done all my life, despite the appalling misogyny at the heart of how they have treated us - simply because pronouns on nhs badges won’t matter if there’s no nhs.

on the Cameron question - plenty of minor MPs in safe seats have been ‘encouraged’ to retire to make way for the chosen one.

What a prime minister needs to be is honest, competent, have integrity

Do you think Starmer has these qualities? I have always been a Labour voter but do not see Starmer as any of those things.

To me, he is a weak fence-sitter who tries to appease everyone but fails miserably. His stances on the ceasefire and women’s rights have been appalling.

Not to mention his Wales mosque visit debacle https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-67217018.amp ,
after which he blatantly denied ever saying that Israel has the right to cut off food, water and fuel.

I definitely think the country needs a change from the Tories, but Starmer is no leader.

The idea that you could be too boring to be PM is why this country is in the hole it is.

This ^^

Bring on boring. Give me that any day than an idiot who uses a balloon to fluff up his hair before PMQs

PheobeBebe · 29/12/2023 12:21

Since when did English politics become f-ing love Island? Who gives a crap if he is boring, can he do the job? I'll have Starmer over any tory any day of the week. He's smart, has a great background of law, and does seem to have some morals about him. Unlike tories who just want to serve themselves, piss money up the wall while lining their own pockets, while messing up our public services and telling us to cook meals for 30p if we're hungry. No-one on a high average wage (or lower) is better off for having tories in charge, and I just wish people would stop voting against their own interests in search of an 'interesting' pm

Sorry to be that poster, but it’s BRITISH politics, not English

Lilithlogic · 29/12/2023 12:35

He is a politician not a fucking celebrity. I'm sure some people would prefer an x factor version of an election

Totally agree. He is weak and spineless and that is the reason I could never view him as a credible Prime Minister.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 29/12/2023 12:39

Boring doesn’t bother me, but his tendency to sit on every single fence does.

chattyness · 29/12/2023 12:40

He is very dull and boring but more than that he's completely out of touch with reality. The labour party is a shambles right now but so are all the rest !

itsgettingweird · 29/12/2023 12:43

No I do t think he's boring. He has a very quick dry wit.

Thing is against these showboaters - who are destroying the country btw - he looks dull.

But I'd rather someone like him running the country than boys who treat PMqs as a indi school common room debate where it's all about the jeers and "likes".

I would like Yvette copper or Rachel Reeves as leader of Labour Party but actually it's been pointed out they are best in current roles and I do agree.

As a trio they will be great for the country imo. And I'm a swing biter so have no skin in any parties game.

itsgettingweird · 29/12/2023 12:45

Maireas · 29/12/2023 09:47

Anyway, you don't vote for the PM, that can change during a government, so the best thing is to vote for an MP who you think will serve your constituency well, and/or contribute to a majority for a particular party.

I have an issue here too - my current MP is Braverman 😳

I wish Labour did a better job locally but they don't. So in my case I'm voting tactfully for Labour to win the country and hoping against the odds Braverman and her views bugger off!

scalt · 29/12/2023 12:50

I don't like Starmer or Labour for many reasons, but after "iconic" personalities such as Johnson and Trump, give me "boring" any day. I have an alternative to Trump's slogan:

MAKE POLITICS BORING AGAIN.
Politics really shouldn't be this exciting, with scandal after scandal.

Another slogan I'm fond of is: "Politicians are like nappies - they should be changed regularly, and for the same reason". So many of them (Thatcher/Blair/Trump/Johnson) end up unable to tell the difference between themselves and God.

Well that is what you are going to get in May by the looks of things!

beguilingeyes · 29/12/2023 09:56

"If the tories change leader, labour is in trouble again."

And who would they pick? The current party is a talent vacuum. Rees-Mogg? Braverman? James Cleverly. Sunak was barrel scraping. They're out of ideas now.

Nigel Farage no doubt. The others aren't hate filled enough for their voters.

CurlewKate · 29/12/2023 13:49

@Faceache45 Why is he morally corrupt?

TooBigForMyBoots · 29/12/2023 14:03

I'm fine with boring and would rather that than politicians who use their elected position to boost their family/friends' coffers and make a name for themselves as Shock Jocks.

cyclamenqueen · 29/12/2023 14:05

We are electing a government not a circus troupe , i couldn't care less if they are boring , frankly after this lot the more boring the better.

TooBigForMyBoots · 29/12/2023 14:06

BJ wasn't boring. He also refused to say that only women have a cervix. Sunak said a woman was whatever BJ said.

The TRA shitshow happened under and because of the Tory government that have been in power for the last 13 years.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 29/12/2023 12:39

Boring doesn’t bother me, but his tendency to sit on every single fence does.

I view it as clever play.

So many times he's been hounded to have a position but Tory's and the MSM.

So many times he routed an idea that the Tory's have taken as their own and continued to claim he has no policies - remember the windfall tax on energy companies?

Now he's keeping quiet. They cannot take his ideas and they can't dispute them either.

When it comes to a manifesto being required I'll judge them if he has policies or not. Until then he isn't running the county - that's being run into the ground by the Tory's.

LlynTegid · 29/12/2023 14:11

Clement Attlee was not a barrel of laughs. Best post-war Prime Minister though.

Boring if it means vaguely competent will do for me. A lot will depend on others in the government, the present one has ministers so poor almost none would have been good enough for a Cameron or Thatcher government.

LegoFlower · 29/12/2023 14:11

Boring would be great, if it's accompanied by evidence-based policy rather than political slogans and pandering to party membership. Surely we've all had enough of "exciting" scandals, extreme rhetoric and extreme nonsensical policies burning the economy to the ground in the name of "control" and "patriotism"?

SunnieShine · 29/12/2023 14:14

caringcarer · 29/12/2023 10:16

I don't care about boring, but Keir thinks some women can have a penis. I can't get past that.

I can't either. The man's a fool.

ginasevern · 29/12/2023 15:02

@IClaudine

"Yes, at least the Tories know what a woman is. They're the ones you sedate🙄"

Indeed, the Tories know exactly what a woman is. How many rapes and sexuals assaults have their MP's been arrested for this year alone? The Home Secretary seems quite the expert on the date rape drug too. To be fair to the Tories though, they are an equal opportunities employer. Some of the sexual assaults have been against men.

Playing it it too clever isn’t always clever.

He can be seen as lacking backbone and too busy picking splinters out of his arse.
