anyone seen starmer?

From what I can see, after his entirely unconvincing "position" on gaza he has essentially disappeared from view. Blair notoriously used to do this a lot when he wanted to avoid legitimate questions, leaving brown nosing slaves to face questions from the proles.
So over to the mnet net, which I know has wise tentacles everwhere
Has the famous SIR dropped into your church fete/tombola recently? Selfies welcome.

I would like to say I am also very confused.

Mostly by why anyone would vote for the current Conservative party.

who is advocating a vote for the Tories?

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2024 15:13

I natter to a fair few folk like me (liberal lefty in London, natural labour voter)

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2024 15:19

Folk I see out and about in London. Range of folk, Not pre-filtered for political opinions, though have the idea that most are left of centre

Offwiththecircus · 16/01/2024 15:27

er, neither of those quotes say I am
liberal elite of metropolitan London"

Would I class myself as liberal? - yes.
left of centre? - yes

I fear your repeated line says more about you and your assumptions than me.

All a bit rum since some folks within labour in the recent years have been seen as metropolitan elite.

Which partly very probably accounts for certain voting upsets.

Anyways, every day seems to bring more Starmer disappointment and evasions.

I did as I said watch the beeb interview at the weekend.

@Offwiththecircus you would not be able to enjoy your daily Stamer disappointments and evasions if @Clavinova had not so kindly found him for us.

DuncinToffee · 16/01/2024 16:19

I wonder what today's disappointment is🤔

Daily I am disappointed that Stamer isn't PM.

Learning about his definite decision on HS2 to the north (though I think he made the statement a few days ago on a flying visit to the north). Bits of what he said don't stack up though.
He apparently has other plans for rail in the north.
But won't actually say what these are.
So quite probably no intention of saying pre election.

Probably that Telegraph poll showing him winning a GE.

The assumptions folk make on here are truly staggering.
I have said multiple times that I expect him to win.
(though that is maybe part of the problem - I fear he has taken a leaf out of Heseltine's rule on oppositions and policies)

I wouldn't say anything in his place either. The Tories are so bereft of ideas they would nick any of his. Also do not interfere when your enemy is fucking up to the nth degree, to paraphrase Napoleon.

Haven't we been here before/had Napoleon before?
By the by, what happened to Napoleon?

Thing is, @Offwiththecircus you go on and on and on about how awful Starmer is, but we still have very little idea of what you do want. It's also impossible to tell whether, given a choice of three options (vote Tory, vote Labour, firing squad) which you would choose.

Piggywaspushed · 16/01/2024 16:37

*er, neither of those quotes say I am

Semantics.

For starters:
Something more left
Something which promises to seriously roll back Tory wreckage
A leader who doesn't chop and change his policies/promises (the beeb interview on Sunday highlighted more than one)
A leader who doesn't hope I have the memory of a goldfish
A leader who doesn't try to silence decent labour party folk.
A bit of bloody passion would kinda help as well.

Hopefully a leader who doesn't diss anyone who has issues with him/questions for him as a Tory or as a member of an elite - as some on here have tried to. With zilch evidence.

Maybe he would win the last point I don't know - if so puts him ahead of some.

no not semantics.
It's a word
elite
you used about me.
I fear you spend too much time online.
No point engaging with you anymore - reading your words.

The massive point you seem to be missing about me is I want that, too. I said eons ago that I feel no one on MN ever really wants a conversation about that and here you are , eventually, on page 16 saying the quiet bit out loud instead of smug put downs and twatterising and picking sematic holes in my posts.

I can almost guarantee I am somewhere to the left of you.

I am glad you have but other readers of this thread might not so it's helpful to have more information

Piggywaspushed · 16/01/2024 16:45

Btw, I said I guessed you hung out with the liberal (tick) metropolitan (tick) elite. I didn't say you said it. Ad you yourself in the space of 10 posts changed what you thought I said.

You are right. There is no point in engaging.

I am an intelligent person and you need to work on your condescension. Otherwise you run the risk of sounding exactly the way you perceive Starmer and co sound to the 'north'.

Starmer wasn't in charge when Labour lost the Red Wall, was he? It was distinctly left wing But Corbyn. It doesn't appear to be lack of socialism that was the problem in the Red Wall, comrade.

MushMonster · 16/01/2024 16:52

Well, the tories are obsessed with Rwanda, football and some other useless very important things at present, so from a strategy point of view it is better to sit quietly and watch.
I think we are going to have to wait it till the elections campaign. At least he has enough common sense not to get tangled in the tories shithole. I do want to see the leadership and big politics skills, but I am happy to wait for a bit.

This is why I will be voting Tory, they are very good at semantics.

DuncinToffee · 22/01/2024 10:33

In case people are still searching for him, Keir Starmer is giving a speech to the Civil Society Summit

Sky News is reporting
