anyone seen starmer?

From what I can see, after his entirely unconvincing "position" on gaza he has essentially disappeared from view. Blair notoriously used to do this a lot when he wanted to avoid legitimate questions, leaving brown nosing slaves to face questions from the proles.
So over to the mnet net, which I know has wise tentacles everwhere
Has the famous SIR dropped into your church fete/tombola recently? Selfies welcome.

Who are these people you 'talk to out and about'??

You talked to us, most of us said we didn't have the same perception or agree (and not just Labour voters. Starmer fans). You seem not to accept this.

You must know it's a well worn Tory HQ line of attack. I have seen several posters posting 'where is Starmer?' lately.

I stand by my point that posting your query on 18 December was a deliberate ploy- you knew that as your thread ran over the Christmas period it would be a while til anyone had proof they saw him.

People at various things I go to around town.
Yes I differ from some people's take on this on the thread. Such are forums/is society/democracy.
I am honestly not aware of any other "where is starmer" threads on here - maybe don't spend enough time on here. Feel free to link to them - I might find them interesting.
My posting the thread on December 18 was no sort of ploy at all - maybe I should have posted earlier - I had very definitely nattered about this apparent (to me) lack of appearance to several folks when out and about (see my first sentence) for quite quite some time before I posted. I may even be able to recall some of the other things I said quite quite some time before if you are interested.

They're not threads. It's a comment posters make to divert attention from actual governors. Often just that sentence.

You're going up to random people in the street and asking them if they know where Keir Starmer is?!?!? That's the most insane thing I've ever heard. You know he's not running the country right? And even if he were....
I talk about politics quite a bit with friends and colleagues, but not randos that I don't know. In London?
Is this some sort of Vox Pop that you've been carrying out? Like those annoying chuggers that try to stop you outside tube stations.

No, not random people in the street.
I am not a street crazy/chugger.
Not sure what the

>> In London?
means.

But yes these are folk "out and about" (ie outside my house/away from my keyboard/phone)

@Offwiththecircus "As you may have noticed this thread was started back last year.
At that time he had very definitely been out of the public eye where serious questions could be asked for quite some time."

But when he was, actually, visiting NATO troops in Estonia. Not my favourite activity for politicians- I wish they wouldn't. But hardly "out of the public eye."

I think I addressed the "troops visits" upthread.

Oh dear. Resorting to insults now.

As for the dramatic shift from Labour in the north. Well we all know why that happened in 2019. The circumstances are very different now. What have the Tories done for the people of the north since then, apart from inflate their cost of living?

To borrow a phrase from GOT that I think will be appropriate come 10pm on GE night: The North Remembers.

Edited

>>As for the dramatic shift from Labour in the north. Well we all know why that happened in 2019. The circumstances are very different now. What have the Tories done for the people of the north since then, apart from inflate their cost of living?

Why did it happen?"
Yes - and also for the benefit of someone upthread - Tory "levelling up" is of course crap. Always was.
I actually made a bitterly mocking reference to this very soon after Boris's victory on a packed to hell train at Manchester Piccadilly. A few embarassed folk looked at the floor (if they had room to move their heads)

Shall we wait and see if the 'Northern parts' shift back?? Several already have in by elections. And thta ahs v little to do with Labour not being left wing enough and way more to do with Brexit. As I am sure you know.

When I am 'out and about' I don't canvas people I meet about where politicians are. The only ones I hear people talk about are Tories, especially Johnson, Sunak and Truss..

I have not accused you of anything . Far form it. You say repeatedly you are liberal left so I wondered why you were using a Tory attack line. And you haven't explained.

I am hardly tribal. Unable where I live to vote for any kind of party left wing and socially progressive enough for me. Frustrated by Labour's centrism. But also appreciate that this seems to be what is needed to oust the most venal , corrupt bunch of career politicians in living memory. Happily, my new Labour MP has been out and about loads, as has the more left wing chap from next door's constituency.

What is this "Tory attack line".
Suggests it is a "line" only used by Tories.
If you answer am more than willing to answer.

You're still doing that weird quoting thing @Offwiththecircus. Why? It makes your posts harder to read.

educate me.
Am not a pro at this place - would love to be able to selectively quote from things I am replying to - If I hit "quote/reply" I don't seem to be able to/allowed to chop out bits from the quote I don't want to reinflict on people/clog the thread with. Have never found an issue with the odd other place I have frequented (am not on broader social media)

ps not wise to accuse others of echo chambers and tribalism when your only frame of reference seems to be the liberal elite of metropolitan London.

What pray tell leads you to think that I am " liberal elite of metropolitan London" or indeed hang out with just such people?
Fair question.
Feel free to reply.
I do by the by think that the "liberal elite" exists.
It is not a myth in my view.
In fact describes a fair lot of Blarites/fellow travellers.

Just c+p the bit you want to quote. It's not hard. Like this:

I don't seem to be able to/allowed to chop out bits from the quote

... and then use the formatting buttons below to change the bit you've quoted into italics.

Or go old school and use more formal, grammatically-correct punctuation:

"I don't seem to be able to/allowed to chop out bits from the quote"

Piggywaspushed · 15/01/2024 11:06

well people can use certain words/phrases/concepts without being all the same.
This isn't twatter.
I hope.

so I can't edit the quote/reply?
just copy/paste the bit I want to quote?
Am aware of that.
Though that loses the quote alert to the person quoted/and the context.
(yep I know I can tag them with a @ but that always seems somewhat intrusive/loud)

By the by (before wander upthread) I did see Laura's interview yesterday.
Summary (will try to comment more later) Not impressed/didn't much unfortunately change my views - educated me/reinforced my views more if anything.
Other folks feel free of course to comment on that public appearance.

Oh, yes. How curious.

how very very curious that folks should focus so much on one word/label folks for using.
See my other reply.
I fear some folks are too much on twatter/social media.
sometimes things are just simple human discourse/communication.

Yes perhaps you do spend too much time on SM @Offwiththecircus , you seem to be getting very confused with your posting. Take a break.

jgw1 · 15/01/2024 13:23

I would like to say I am also very confused.

Mostly by why anyone would vote for the current Conservative party.

DuncinToffee · 15/01/2024 13:50

I am confused as well.
Now we have established that Starmer wasn't MIA and that Labour have policies, are we now being told that that wasn't actually the question?

BIossomtoes · 15/01/2024 14:04

Who knows? This thread is very strange. It seems that nothing would impress the OP about Starmer short of him descending a mountain with tablets of stone - oh wait, that fucked Milliband over, didn’t it?

Folk need to remember that a politicians public profile is totally regulated by the media, so atm we have quite a bit of Sunak, due to the Houthi issues in the Red Sea and UK military being involved.

Starmer etc can say what they like as often as they like but atm wont get the coverage the Government will.

But having said that, many posters, esp those who claim to be floating or former Lab voters, are often very far from that, they have one aim only... Trash Labour/Starmer.

I have never to the best of my knowledge even once said that I am "metropolitan urban elite".
