anyone seen starmer?

From what I can see, after his entirely unconvincing "position" on gaza he has essentially disappeared from view. Blair notoriously used to do this a lot when he wanted to avoid legitimate questions, leaving brown nosing slaves to face questions from the proles.
So over to the mnet net, which I know has wise tentacles everwhere
Has the famous SIR dropped into your church fete/tombola recently? Selfies welcome.

@Offwiththecircus "I referred to him as Starmer in most of that post - several times."

But Sir K twice. At least you've stopped calling him La Starmer....

CurlewKate · 12/01/2024 18:14

@User135644 "Wouldn't have a clue what Labour even stand for now."

Have you made any attempt to find out?

Clavinova · 12/01/2024 18:26

beguilingeyes
[he was] flying on Ryanair to boot

Well, this is a bit awkward for Sir Keir. At PMQs, Starmer attacked Sunak for using a private jet; “the view on the ground is very different to that from his private jet..."

BBC - Keir Starmer used Qatar-funded private jet for Emir trip
His latest declaration of financial interests shows the trip for him and three staffers cost £25,508.

Keir Starmer flew to Qatar on a private jet to meet the nation’s leaders – despite previously saying he would refuse to visit the country due to its human rights record.

Phew thanks @Clavinova the OP had lost Starmer and I think you have successfully found him. Well done.

IClaudine · 12/01/2024 18:43

Labour has previously vowed to curb the use of UK-funded private jets by ministers undertaking official trips to "save millions of pounds" for British taxpayers

So, he is sticking to his principles as Qatar funded the trip.

Starmer even declared the trip in his declaration of financial interests.

What an utter bastard, being transparent about his trips.

What a non story. The new script is as weak as over-diluted squash.

IClaudine · 12/01/2024 18:50

So what have we had this week:

Starmer acted on behalf of people facing the death penalty as part of wider campaign to stamp it out globally. What an awful aim to aspire to.

Was responsible for three PO scandal prosecutions. Of course he oversaw every single CPS prosecution during his time as DPP.

He went to Qatar. Remind me which other politicians have done the same?

Climate change? Human rights? Empathy with the 'little people'?

I am really pleased @Clavinova you have also found some of things Starmer believes in. Some other posters were struggling with that, so I am sure you have been a great help to them.

"The Qatari government spent more than £260,000 in gifts, hospitality and travel on British MPs"

IClaudine · 12/01/2024 19:02

Honestly, it is becoming too easy, now.

Give us something to challenge us Clav!

IClaudine · 12/01/2024 19:05

Oh Clav. Giving your C&P favourites another airing is just not going to cut the mustard, is it?

"The Qatari government spent more than £260,000 in gifts, hospitality and travel on British MPs"

During the 2022 Fifa World Cup, Starmer said he would refuse to visit the country due to its poor human rights record.

He was asked on LBC: "If England got to the World Cup Final in Qatar, would you go?"

Starmer replied: "No I wouldn't. I'd love to but I think that the human rights record is such that I wouldn't go and that'll be the position of the Labour party."

I did find Keir Starmer here in 2015;

https://www.hamhigh.co.uk/news/21371377.general-election-candidates-urged-support-sanctions-israel/

So he was only missing for 8 years. Thanks @Clavinova that is good to know.

Really. I thought he had disappeared between 2015 and 2024, are you now telling me that you knew where we was in 2022?

You really are the expert on this subject @Clavinova

He said he wouldn't go to the World Cup final in Qatar. Not that he would never visit Qatar.

But if he has said that in the past, please do post the link.

Keir Starmer has accepted more free tickets to events such as sports matches, concerts and parties than the combined total of every other Labour leader since records began in 1997, openDemocracy analysis has found.

That's because he is dull.

I thought it was because he was "ready to serve".

I think perhaps @Clavinova you have confused him with a waiter.
