From what I can see, after his entirely unconvincing "position" on gaza he has essentially disappeared from view. Blair notoriously used to do this a lot when he wanted to avoid legitimate questions, leaving brown nosing slaves to face questions from the proles.
So over to the mnet net, which I know has wise tentacles everwhere
Has the famous SIR dropped into your church fete/tombola recently? Selfies welcome.

I don’t want to expand so we can have some kind of meaningless argument about something you haven’t experienced first hand. Just bloody watch or listen to it, if you’ve got time to keep posting here, you’ve got time to do it.

pointythings · 04/01/2024 16:28

I don't understand why you don't just listen to it, @Offwiththecircus . It's almost as if you don't want your prejudices against Starmer challenged.

I have feet in both London and the north.
Does it matter?
Or is someone trying to tailor their response according to some sort of assumption/marketing targetting?

Nope.

Just seemed a strange thing to say, as if you think you represent the whole of 'the north' and 'London'.

DuncinToffee · 04/01/2024 16:41

Imo, the best bit of the speech was that Starmer came accross as professional and knowledgeable with a realistic view of the task ahead.

Do you have a link that isn't twatter?
All I can see is someone saying that this is the best bit:

"I promise this, a politics which treads a little lighter on all our lives. That’s the thing about populism or nationalism. It needs your full attention, needs you constantly focussing on this week’s common enemy. And that’s exhausting"

If that's the best bit I won't be getting excited any time soon.

Edited

I dunno. After the last seven or eight years of endless culture wars with bloody Farage throwing hand grenades constantly trying to stay relevant, a period of dull competence sounds pretty great to me.

BIossomtoes · 04/01/2024 15:52

It’s not the best bit. By a very long chalk.

It is though an excellent description of the methods of the current government.

BIossomtoes · 04/01/2024 16:17

Why not just devote an hour to watching the speech and the Q&A @Offwiththecircus? That way you get it unfiltered and you can form your own opinion. You could just listen to it while doing some mindless chores like I did.

Starmer has no policies, he just flip flops from one thing to the next.

If I listened to his speech all that I would is that he flip flopping and has no policies. So I am not going to waste my time doing that.

I am an ostrich and will insist on shouting But Jeremy Corbyn when I stick my head in the sand.
Did you know that ostriches know what a woman is?

will listen to in full when have a mo - and also reply to certain replies to me upthread.

In the meantime, I gather Mr Starmer is to to be interviewed by Trevor Phillips on Sky News on Sunday morning. Will try to catch that if in. Here's hoping that there is some decent questioning.

Mr Sunak is on the BBC on Sunday morning with LK. Here's hoping there is decent questioning there, too.

It’s Kunessberg so I doubt it.

Offwiththecircus · 12/01/2024 11:29

Well I watched the Sky News interview.
And that hardly got my blood pumping/changed my views.
Starmer looked kind of nervous waiting for it to start but it was so soft it was ludicrous - the first "question" asked Starmer about the idea that we are all lucky to be born here/be British. To which Starmer agreed.
It ended with the "interviwer" asking Sir K about how important his family was to him.
The interview was so soft one wondered if it was some Machiavellian plot to undermine Sir K by making him look boring. But he could have used the opportunity to take the offered platform to say something definite and exciting, but he didn't really. Seemed happy to be boring and vague. He did say that he supported the right to march over Gaza but didn't go further - quite possibly said this because of dim awareness of severe discontent in sections of the party which he has figured he can no longer bully.
He also turned up on the BBC breakfast sofa this morning - again saying pretty much nowt. I did gather that the ten pledges have become the 5 missions though. I can't wait for the three whatever.

I am very pleased you have now seen our future PM.

Is this some sort of gameshow/celebrity dancing competition?
I am rather more interested in what they might do/whether they deserve a vote.
I have probably indicated upthread that I expect him to walk it.
But that's hardly the point.

I am reliably informed that Stamer is dull, so I doubt he would go on a gameshow or dancing competition. Though some people do seem to think that the Prime Minister should be there to entertain us like such programmes.

Wouldn't have a clue what Labour even stand for now.

CurlewKate · 12/01/2024 11:58

@Offwiththecircus The Sir K think is super tedious. It's routine for the head of the CPs and DPP to be knighted. He doesn't use it himself. Please stop it- it makes you look silly.

what a bizarre post - and rather misses the point.
I referred to him as Starmer in most of that post - several times.
But since you appear to be some sort of toastmaster for him perhaps you can say what you think the approved address is.
Am pretty sure he was introduced as Sir Keir Starmer by both Sky and the BBC.

>>He doesn't use it himself
Well I imagine he doesn't salute himself in the mirror of a morning as Sir Keir Starmer.

so frequently is that trotted out by apparent cheerleaders that I'm half expecting Starmer to say it when asked by an interviewer (there to represent the umble citizen voter) when asked about specific policies.
OK - first "mission"

"Get Britain Building Again"
>>Take tough decisions to restore economic stability and secure our economy.

I imagine the Tories would be perfectly willing to say that. Am not aware of anyone pledging to destroy the economy.

>>Build more homes

Any figures?
I seem to recall that on the beeb this morning he declined to give any when asked.
Are the Tories pledging to build less homes?

IClaudine · 12/01/2024 13:08

I don't actually particularly like Starmer that much, so no cheerleading here. I just pointed that poster to where a broad statement of what Labour stands for could be found. I imagine that the manifesto will have more detail when it is published.

Tell that to Truss and Kwarteng.

DuncinToffee · 12/01/2024 13:24

Funny how the cheerleading comment always get trotted out when you answer the questions and point to the relevant information.

Anyway the thread title has been answered.

I do always like to have a leader who is my superior so that I can doff my cap to them.

Hmmm. Upthread you were inexplicably calling him La Starmer , OP.
