But JRM who is renowned for being in touch with public opinion told us quite categorically that Boris had won the minds of the people with his amazing performance on Wednesday.

That is the only bit of QT I saw on Twitter. How telling.

I stopped watching QT when some of the plants people in the audience annoyed me too much.

This is why I find it completely bizarre that anyone can come on this thread and defend him. Because that is not what I am finding with people I know. Even my Tory through and through friend sent me a hilarious meme about his partying and lying.

Roussette · 24/03/2023 07:08

Ironic to see this morning the massive riots all over France because of the rise from 62 to 64 pension age.

And yet here we are talking about ours going up to 67 in 2026 and then 68 in years to come.
Have we become complacenet?

toomuchlaundry · 24/03/2023 07:14

My DM was a fervent Boris supporter, thought he was the bee’s knees during Brexit. Even she doesn’t believe him!

toomuchlaundry · 24/03/2023 07:16

@Roussette I don’t think setting fire to buildings is something we should aspire too

Nor do I. I obviously didn't mean damage to properties

I mean a March. Making voices heard.

Roussette · 24/03/2023 07:38

"You would go and see Boris Johnson and tell him something. The next day you're listening to him on the radio, and he's telling the radio listeners, that you told him something else. It's quite alarming actually."

Sir Howard Davies, NatWest Group

I can really really imagine Johnson being like this. Gaslighting and lying.

Well why don't you organise a march if you feel strongly about retirement ages? It would seem ironic to wonder if folk have become complacent whilst all you're doing about it is posting on mumsnet. I think you've answered your own question tbh.

Ummmm excuse me?!

Are you expecting me to have organised a March twenty minutes after I have posted on here?! That would be going some lol

Funny!

Your comment is a bit silly to be honest, but you do you like you always do!

Zonder · 24/03/2023 08:08

@Roussette that tweet is alarming. Almost makes me wish I'd watched QT. Almost...

Notonthestairs · 24/03/2023 08:09

Complacency is voting for a bullshitter and then expecting Parliamentary standards to survive unscathed. I guess that presupposes people care about standards in public life.
I read they can't raise the retirement age because our life expectancy is falling.

It is alarming isn't it...

I fight it quite chilling that BJ always twisted what people said, and then lied, and for someone like the ex CEO of NatWest to come out and say that is what he did is something else.

@Roussette you do need to set fire to some buildings as well.

(I well remember the Brexit marches and the utter devastation they caused. There wasn’t a speck of litter in their wake, most unnatural.)

Roussette · 24/03/2023 08:31

Well indeed borntobequiet.

I think this clip is worth watching again... and it's where we realise Johnson has never been held to account before.

"If I was accused of lawbreaking, and I had to give undertakings to the House of Commons...I'd want the advice of a lawyer."

"The question is, why didn't you take proper advice?"

Bernard Jenkin is single-handedly ending Boris Johnson's political career.

Well no, you're musing on mumsnet if folk are complacent as I said you've answered you're own question. You don't have to organise a march 20 minutes later but why not have a plan if you feel strongly..May, July?

As an aside what is wrong with a fit person retiring at 68? So may highly skilled experienced people have so much to offer and should be encouraged to continue working. Health issues aside of course, but that is what esa etc is for.

You are being daft now. I posted something, and you now want an undertaking that I will organise a March in May or July. 😂🤣
Apparently I have 'answered my own question'. Sure!

It's rather ironic that you are posting like this when you fervently support the Tories who have made people's lives infinitely worse over the last 12 years. Now that's the definition of irony.

And your second para shows what you really think. Keep working everybody! Don't expect a pension and a peaceful retirement!

borntobequiet · 24/03/2023 08:44

As an aside what is wrong with a fit person retiring at 68?

What is right with an unfit and exhausted person in a tiring job having to wait until 68 to retire? (I’m 69 and am lucky enough to be able to still work part time, but couldn’t have managed full time at 68.)

As an aside, wait until you’re 68 and see. You might feel rather differently.

She is desperate for that place in the Lords isn't she, whilst making a complete show of herself.

I'm surprised she didn't criticise Harman's necklace whilst she was ranting!

@Janiie on the subject of answering questions. Can you explain why you think it acceptable for a 56 year old to have a birthday party whilst denying that opportunity to millions of children?

Notonthestairs · 24/03/2023 08:58

Surely Dorries is in contempt of Parliament?

But then I guess that's part of the brand.

pointythings · 24/03/2023 08:58

@Janiie and can you also confirm that you are 100% OK with Sir Keir Starmer's beer at work and that you disapprove vehemently of the way he was investigated, especially with the second investigation being fully prompted by pressure on the police from the Conservatives?

You would've thought so. What I don't understand is... calling the Privileges Committee a KC when it was made up as follows..
4 conservatives
2 Labour
1 SNP

It makes a mockery of the stupid KC assertions.
