" Nobody forgets and/or forgives a back-stabber!"

Yes we remember Johnson giving Cameron a few minutes notice of his move to Leave. And his resignation as Foreign Sec under May.

Anniefrenchfry · 22/10/2022 11:34

Rishi can only win if boris either doesn’t get 100 or both penny and Rishi get more than him and he’s the third and knocked out

if he gets 100 and more than penny then he will win, as the members will vote for him.

at this stage it is more likely boris will win. He will get thr 100 and beat penny . He doesn’t need to beat Rishi at thr mp stage, he just needs to beat him at rhe final member stage and that’s a given if he gets there

amd there won’t be a ge and non acceptance you need to differentiate between bullshit threats and what would happen in reality if they have to loose their jobs/

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/10/2022 11:35

i think a boris come back is too soon

I agree, however, I do think he needs a reasonably wide gap between himself and Rishi if he wants to unite the party, just pipping Rishi to 1st on Tory MPs votes won’t do that. (I’m fairly sure he has the membership numbers in the bag though).

The bookmaker odds on Johnson have drifted this morning.

Is there a doubt that Johnson will reach 100 votes?

I don't see what he did as back stabbing.

He was witnessing a situation that he felt was all kinds of wrong and so acted accordingly.

Back stabbing or integrity? I prefer to think it showed his integrity.

StormzyinaTCup · 22/10/2022 12:48

Possibly.
According to Guido as it stands at the moment he needs another 44 MPs to back him to bring him equal to Rishi on 115.

lljkk · 22/10/2022 13:47

Boris will linger in centre or on fringes of UK politics for a generation like an evil smell.

According to guido he needs 29 to get through, it’s not a competition on who gets the most mps. It’s the top two over one hundred, it doesn’t matter if Rishi gets 200 and Boris 101 the members will still vote him in, as that’s the next stage

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2022 14:12

I don't think this will go down well with anyone anywhere....
(FYI Christopher Hope writes for the Telegraph)

There are 2 ways to axe the partygate inquiry, Chris Bryant says.

  1. A vote of the whole House of commons
  1. A general election (which would temporarily suspend the inquiry)

The plan is 1. If he wins.

We haven't had the main pack voters yet. Moggie is still plugging away at it. I don't want to see Rishi handed it on a plate. He certainly played a role in destabilizing the party and putting his personal interests first. He cannot be blamed for the Truss fiasco but it was the last straw.

Abhannmor · 22/10/2022 14:38

As others have pointed out : Johnson destroyed the Cameron government. Then he stabbed Theresa May in the front. But the members don't care. The great Betrayal narrative only applies to people they don't like.

As always, the big issue for the Tories is 'destabilizing the party'.

Destabilizing the country is of little consequence to them.

I expect him to get through but if it’s close between the two of them (excluding membership), it’s not going to bring the party of Tory MPs together, they will be as divided as they are now and will continue to eat themselves as Labour did and they then got a trouncing at the last GE.

Anniefrenchfry · 22/10/2022 15:11

Well sky news reporting that Boris sources saying he’s already got the 100 and if this is the case then Rishi might not run as he knows he won’t beat him at the membership and that’s why Rishi hasn’t announced.

He is waiting to see if Boris is in the final two as if he is, which it looks like he is, Rishi can’t beat him at the members vote so won’t even try.

so things might change very quickly very soon.

noblegiraffe · 22/10/2022 15:19

Not sure I trust Nadine. He hasn't got 100 public backers, why are they so shy?

MerryMarigold · 22/10/2022 15:23

I'm really intrigued by this. Why wouldn't members vote for Sunak? Are they basically racist? Is the leadership of our entire country to be predicated on racism?

noblegiraffe · 22/10/2022 15:26

They voted for Truss over Sunak and look how that worked out.

The membership are not very good at choosing prime ministers.

nightvision · 22/10/2022 15:42

"Back stabbing or integrity? I prefer to think it showed his integrity"

I'm past being surprised and bewildered by the short-sightedness and naivity of some people here. Clearly, these people have never left these shores and gone abroad to discover how the rest of the world works and thinks.

Here, we had someone who's supposed to be No. 2 in a "team" that runs a government under very extreme and unprecedented circumstances - Covid, Lockdown, NHS collapsing, Death tolls, etc - really, nobody, and I do mean absolutely nobody in the world knew what to do.

So, instead of working as a senior member of the "team" trying to relieve these very trying circumstances, we had someone watching, scheming, counting and planning when to put the knife in at the appropriate time. Meanwhile, prepare the tools, videos and other equipments etc for the day of reckoning. Everything's got to be launched with military precision!

And I'm reminded of honesty and integrity. Poor Boris didn't even know he was being sucked dry. No, I don't blame Stamer for drumming up the "partygate" nonsense making a song and dance of it - it's his job. Didn't he himself come under investigation for exactly the same thing he'd accused Boris of doing? Nor do I blame Cummings for sabotaging Boris. That was the work of a bitter man taking revenge. No, no, to Boris having a drink in his back garden but I'm okay driving up north to see dad and take him out for a drive around Barnard Castle.

Back to the man who's wearing a £3500 bespoke suit stepping on a pair of £500 Prada shoes and now building a £400,000 swimming pool in his mansion reassuring you poor souls how he can understand your plight. After all, he comes from a "humble" beginning who only went to posh Winchester College on a "scholarship" whilst his GP dad and pharmacist mum complain how expensive his school fees were.

Yes, tell me more about "integrity" and "honesty" and how much you care for the British nation and its people if only you elect me to be Prime Minister. Of course, I'm a great economist, raising taxes from individuals and businesses alike and redistributing them back to you lot. It's your money after all; mine is kept offshore.

And if all else fails, I'm off to the USA and you lot can look after yourselves. Now, where's my Green Card gone?

Cameron offered a free referendum - Brexit or not. No party whip. No apologies to anybody how you voted. Johnson chose Brexit.

Teresa was a time waster taking 4 years off everybody's time. She went to Europe like a little mouse - even telling her reps not to upset Brussels. This is what we need for BREXIT. God bless her.

If you have nothing to offer and find this kitchen too hot, then get off from here.

If you have nothing sensible to say, best to say nothing.

Perfect description of Johnson under Cameron & May.
