Nat6999 · 10/02/2022 19:21

Cressida Dick has resigned, does anyone think this is part of Boris's downfall?

SilverHairedCat · 10/02/2022 19:24

No. I think it will deflect from him again. Just like he wants.

TracyMosby · 10/02/2022 19:25

I dont know how i feel about this. The met is seemingly full of toxic misogynistic men, so Cressida Dick resigns?

ItsSnowJokes · 10/02/2022 19:26

Its about time she bloody went. An absolutely shocking chief.

blueshoes · 10/02/2022 19:27

Hallelujah

VikingVolva · 10/02/2022 19:27

No.

She wasn't appointed during his tenure, and people have been gunning for her more or less since her appointment.

All series of Prime Suspect are on ITV hub at the moment - have a look at the misogyny that was rife at the time she started her career, and think about what she had to overcome to be appointed. And then ask yourself who benefits most from her departure?

DarkDarkNight · 10/02/2022 19:28

I hope it means the noose is tightening for him.

MaryAndHerNet · 10/02/2022 19:30

I hope the cops running the party gate investigation see that the politicians have pushed out one of their own and that they respond with much vigour into investigating the parties.

KaptainKaveman · 10/02/2022 19:41

About Time. Abs f*ing useless.

Wrongkindofovercoat · 10/02/2022 19:52

Why do people think she was useless/bad at the job ?

fablett · 10/02/2022 20:03

Well @Wrongkindofovercoat

She was in operational charge when the met shot John Charles de Menezes.

And over saw the culture where Sarah Everard was murdered by a police man that other police knew was a flasher, officers took photos and made jokes about the murdered women Biba Henry and Nicole Smallman, and the Charing Cross police team made jokes about hitting women and murdering black children.

She oversaw the brutal policing of the Sarah Everard vigil.

She made an absolute shambles of party gate.

Things like that really

KaptainKaveman · 10/02/2022 20:06

Have a look at the number of unarmed black males who have died in police custody under her watch. That will answer your query. An absolute disgrace.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 10/02/2022 20:07

Also don’t forget the whole ‘flag down a bus’ advice if you are a woman alone and in fear for your life (from a lone male police officer!)

Nat6999 · 10/02/2022 20:25

So many things have happened on her watch but the fact that Boris gave her his total support after the Sarah Everard case should mean his judgement is poor without partygate, the flat decoration, Owen Patterson etc.

She was also personally censured by the Daniel Morgan enquiry for impeding their investigation. An investigation which found the Met was institutionally corrupt.

rainbowninja · 10/02/2022 20:27

I don't get why she was on the radio at lunchtime saying that she had the support of the mayor of London though? I can't defend her but it doesn't seem to have been handled well.

If she was as bad at her job as people are saying she should have been sacked before. Now she's likely accepted some sort of pay off in exchange for her resignation? All feels like a distraction from Boris.

Canaloha · 10/02/2022 20:31

Hopefully the new one won't be as useless. It's baffling that knife crime hasn't been made a priority, Scotland have done excellent work in this area so it can be done; and her actions and comments in relation to many things has been questionable. It's a miracle she has clung in for this long, but yes probably something politic as well to deflect.

RandomDent · 10/02/2022 20:41

He does whatever it takes to keep his job today. It will be another thing tomorrow. He doesn’t look to or care about tomorrow as long as he is ok today.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 10/02/2022 20:45

And she dismissively said she didn't agree with its findings.

Daniel's murderer has never been found.

GiantSpider · 10/02/2022 20:48

All these resignations and not the one we want! How can it be that Cressida Dick has resigned and fucking Boris still has a job?

LizzieSiddal · 10/02/2022 20:49

Indeed. She should have been sacked for this alone, not to mention all the other examples of her incompetence. I think it suits Johnson for her to have been given another two year contract last year. He’s admitted in the past he likes to be surrounded by chaos as it detracts from him.

Duntelchaig · 10/02/2022 20:54

If one holds Cressida Dick responsible for what the Met’s faults are as leader of the organiSation - even if she wasn’t personally involved in everything, does one also hold Sir Keir Starmer responsible for not going ahead with some potential prosecutions even if he wasn’t personally involved in those?

JennyForeigner · 10/02/2022 20:55

I want to see Johnson out as much as anyone, but it's a separate issue imho.

Dick had to go because she was starting to embody impunity and impunity is the whole bloody problem.

The Met is a disgrace. I'm glad she's gone.
