This is a thread for chit chat, banter, memes and emojis about current politics.

It is NOT intended as a fight club.

It is NOT intended as a place to rehash old arguments about the merits (or otherwise) of Brexit - please pop over to the Brexit forum for that.

Politics threads sometimes attract posters who make personal attacks or who hold their views so very strongly that they find it hard to be respectful of other opinions. Please do not engage with such posters; MN has a handy report button for any posts that fall outside their posting guidelines.

Now, pull up a bar stool, and I'm sure one of our lovely staff will be over with a menu shortly.

You'd think so!

But if you're the type who's left every other discussion because you can't bear to be disagreed with, and who wants it to appear that there's a whole room full of happy people all with the same purpose perhaps it's just too tempting.

Anyway I can't be doing with any more of that bollocks..it's been so nice without it. I would have liked some Brexiters to come and comment sanely on the 'progress' of the great plan that was clearly never going to happen.

So glad to see the back of Execrable McVey - please god let it be the last time we see her sorry arse anywhere near Cabinet - who the f keeps voting for her anyway??

XingMing · 14/02/2020 14:50

Bit early to pass judgement on the success or failure of any great plans Spindle. We haven't even had a budget yet, and the EU is considering their negotiating strategy this month I believe. Can we judge when there's something solid?

SpindleBerry · 14/02/2020 18:01

I'll take that as a 'no comment' then Xing

Huffington Post reports that campaign group Global Justice Now want the information watchdog to order the Gvt to publish data about any trade negotiations.
“Trade deals today create public policy. They change the lives of each and every one of us. And therefore it’s totally wrong that these things are negotiated in total secrecy, without any legitimate accountability to parliament.”

SpindleBerry · 14/02/2020 18:11

On the plus side of the news, 'Harry The Owl' Miller won his case against Humberside police and was granted leave to take an appeal against the outrageous College of Policing guidance on transgender 'non-crime hate incidents' to the Supreme Court.

XingMing · 14/02/2020 19:55

I was pleased that Harry won. No crime was committed; a lapse of judgement and an offensive post perhaps, but are we without fault? I'm not. The number of posts I have made and regretted later is legion.

And yes, I am still on the fence re outcomes of current UK politics. We're in the infancy of a new government and I think big changes so soon would be rash, so happy to defer any considered definitive opinion for 12 months re the real EU withdrawal and future trade agreement, and for 18 months before I say it is better/worse for the country. Political changes and administrative details take time to have an effect. The old super tanker ship analogy: it takes you 10 miles to change course because it's big.

HateIsNotGood · 15/02/2020 19:54

No - not sock-puppets at all spindlybum - just real people posting on MN and, as it's that quietish time of year, most are just takin a break until there's something to discuss; rather than just speculate.

Myself, I'm acquainting myself with Fishing as much as poss, and am also trying to create a new structure for discussion/debate within the MN (Brexit) forum.

Whilst I'm sticking to fishing for the time being, there are many other specific areas as worthy of discussion/debate/comment and knowledge-sharing.

Maybe you have one or two specific areas relevant to Brexit that you might wish to explore too?

Anyways, if you don't, there's plenty of other Brexit threads that you can post your criticisms and critiques on - including this one.

Just enjoy your surroundings, and you may as well finish off the ale as it'll only go off anyway - same with the fridge and freezer.

I only ask that you clean up after yourselves and try not to break anything.

Many Thanks,
The Caretaker.

Gosh, long time lurker here. I've been on holiday. Came here to read what the locals thought about the political shenanigans of late, and there's no-one here. They've all evaporated, like Claig did after the referendum. Hmm

TheSultanofPingu · 21/02/2020 15:04

It's a shame that this thread has died a death, but not surprising. For some on here, Brexit was 'done' on the 31st January. For others, I guess they didn't like the non partisan aspect of the new arms. It was never going to work unfortunately. Disagreement was seen as goading by too many of them.

DeDoRonRon · 21/02/2020 17:11

Evaporated indeed...in the case of some posters, from hundreds of posts a day to zero! I wonder what the explanation for that could possibly be? Hmm

southwestten · 22/02/2020 10:01

There’s no point having a pro Brexit thread as anti Brexit posters come on it and tell the Brexiteers they’re racist and thick and it’s impossible to have any sort of discussion.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/02/2020 14:01

I'm not interested in arguing about Brexit. I want to know how people feel about how it's going. Leavers, or Conservative voters. Are they happy with PM Cummings? Do they think Patel's immigration policies will work? What did they make of Javid's resignation?

I want to see outside the bubble but they aren't to be found. I know what the telegraph thinks - I want to talk to real people.

southwestten · 22/02/2020 15:43

Honeysuckle go on the Westminstenders threads which are in the Brexit topic but any pro conservative comment will be shot down in flames by several posters.

bellinisurge · 22/02/2020 16:15

The tendency to lurch into full on actual nastiness - vermin, bleach to fix em, and nasty name changes rather did for the previous hardcore.

SilverySurfer · 22/02/2020 16:58

Returning after having been away, opens the door expecting to see old friends but instead there's a chill wind blowing through, the landlady has left and no-one has lit the fire. Original clientele have left, no doubt taking a break from bashing their heads against a brick wall.

Gathers up various belongs from under my chair and tiptoes out.

DustyDiamond · 22/02/2020 18:31

Evaporated indeed...in the case of some posters, from hundreds of posts a day to zero! I wonder what the explanation for that could possibly be?

No idea about other posters - can only speak for myself obvs

I just got very, very tired & fed up

I was fed up of the continual, persistent goading

I was fed up of people wanting to continually fight the battles of the past

I was fed up of constant demands to justify my vote - be it for the EU Ref or the GE

I was fed up of being used as a convenient kicking stick for disgruntled ant-Brexit/anti-Tory posters to lash out at when angry

I was fed up of seeing myself and other regular posters being vilified, slagged off and lied about on other threads

I was fed up of the double standards being applied in relation to talk guidelines

So I stopped posting 🤷🏻‍♀️

XingMing · 22/02/2020 20:31

As did we all, and for all the same reasons. Only so many times can even the strongest conservative note deliberate lower case c stomach being regarded as a knuckle dragging mouth breather with racist views and an opinion stuck in the 1950s.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/02/2020 20:54

south that's what I mean. Westminsterenders is in agreement with my normal bubble. I know what my particular bubble thinks. I want to know about the other bubbles. All of them.

bellinisurge · 22/02/2020 21:30

The sanitising of why these threads got MNHQ intervention is almost hilarious.

Minutewaltz · 22/02/2020 21:32

Honeysuckle as other posters have said, pro Brexit posters have had enough of the sneering and insults so you will no longer find the opportunity to read about other bubbles on here.
The threads representing your bubble prefer them to be an echo chamber.

bellinisurge · 22/02/2020 21:35

Guessing your bubble doesn't call people vermin, @HoneysuckIejasmine

HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/02/2020 22:09

So are pro Brexit mumsnetters going to say literally nothing during the transition period at all? Not even "I'm really pleased with the latest developments" or such? No scrutiny at all? I mean, obvs pro Brexit posters don't owe me a commentary, of course not, but it's a shame their voice is being voluntarily silenced.

Bellini I saw how you were treated after this thread moved and it was shameful, especially as you were always clear that you felt non-partisan discussion was important, something I agree with.

Redundancy1 · 22/02/2020 22:24

This thread 🙄

“ I mean, obvs pro Brexit posters don't owe me a commentary, of course not, but it's a shame their voice is being voluntarily silenced. ”

Fucking shame, my arse. Find another whipping boy.

Politics Arms
HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/02/2020 22:27

If you search me you'll see that I have rarely or never posted in these threads before so you've got the wrong end of the stick with me. I'm not whipping anyone.

Unless you mean my comment about how Bellini was treated. Posting snake emojis and being aggressive to her was shameful, and if that's "whipping" posters to say so then so be it. 🤷

Redundancy1 · 22/02/2020 22:31

Honey, if you can’t find enough Brexit chat here, you’ll have to do what Brexiteers did.

Which was, find somewhere other than MN to chat about it.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/02/2020 22:44

Fair enough.
