This is a thread for chit chat, banter, memes and emojis about current politics.

It is NOT intended as a fight club.

It is NOT intended as a place to rehash old arguments about the merits (or otherwise) of Brexit - please pop over to the Brexit forum for that.

Politics threads sometimes attract posters who make personal attacks or who hold their views so very strongly that they find it hard to be respectful of other opinions. Please do not engage with such posters; MN has a handy report button for any posts that fall outside their posting guidelines.

Now, pull up a bar stool, and I'm sure one of our lovely staff will be over with a menu shortly.

The common manyou say? That explains a lot

Parker231 · 07/02/2020 16:25

So Boris the Buffoon comments about Nazanian Zaghari- Ratcliffe are from someone speaking for the common man? More likely one who is arrogant and ignorant.

mummmy2017 · 07/02/2020 16:34

Well he is the PM. How did that happen , since your so sure no one could vote for him.

Parker231 · 07/02/2020 16:38

I know he is the PM - doesn’t mean I think he is or will be a good one. He was an appalling Foreign Secretary.

If he takes the UK out of the EU on a no deal, he’s go down in history as the most destructive PM.

mummmy2017 · 07/02/2020 16:45

The EU were always pushing us to No Deal, sometimes I can't see why people think it could be anything different.

howabout · 07/02/2020 16:50

Parker is the future Deal with the EU really the only thing you think the average UK voter Leave or Remain cares about? I doubt it is even registering for the vast majority outside the SE anymore.

Parker231 · 07/02/2020 16:52

Where’s the evidence that the EU want a no deal - they have publicly said the opposite

Parker231 · 07/02/2020 16:54

Of course people are still thinking about the final exit - anyone in banking, finance, manufacturing, tourism, agriculture etc are trying to plan as to what happens next year.

howabout · 07/02/2020 17:00

Manufacturing and tourism are far more worried about impact of corono virus atm. Banking and finance actively lobbying for non-alignment. Agriculture busy negotiating UK version of CAP. So no I don't think so.

Parker231 · 07/02/2020 17:03

The car manufacturing industry are very concerned - I’ve a friend in supply chain and Brexit has become a full time job for her.

howabout · 07/02/2020 17:06

Quite surprised Govt's new commitments on moving away from diesel / petrol / hybrids isn't of far more concern?

Arseaboutdarkly · 07/02/2020 18:31

Maybe they just seemed too unrealistic to take in? There doesn't seem to have been anything announced to support the aim so far.

And commitments can be broken of course..

BaileysforBreakfast · 07/02/2020 18:55

Another female politician on the receiving end of threats. The jail sentence seems quite inadequate in the circumstances.

BaileysforBreakfast · 07/02/2020 18:59

Boris seems to speak for the common man.
It's been some decades since I heard 'the common man' use a word like 'piccaninnies', although it would be true to say he probably speaks for many with his dog-whistle 'letterbox' comments.Personally, I don't find that very admirable.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 07/02/2020 19:27

But Boris does say it like it is. Its what makes him to likeable, people are fed up with having to be politically correct.

Parker231 · 07/02/2020 19:32

Hardly helpful when the Britain’s ambassador to Myanmar had to stop Boris as he recited a Rudyard Kipling poem in the country’s most sacred temple.

Not exactly the conduct you should expect from a senior member of government.

Arseaboutdarkly · 07/02/2020 20:28

But he doesn't tell it like it is, he lies constantly.

He is rude and I suppose that's refreshing for people who think 'political correctness has gone mad', same as people who like Trump. Trouble is it's also a sign of terrible arrogance and lack of any critical thinking that will hopefully be the undoing of the pair of them one day

BaileysforBreakfast · 07/02/2020 23:16

people are fed up with having to be politically correct.

I think we all know what that means.

HateIsNotGood · 08/02/2020 08:11

Morning All - fire's lit, pub cleaned (recycled loo roll in place). It occured to me that left to our own devices we are a rather dour, inhospitable bunch. No food or drinks on offer at all.

Now hospitality isn't one of my strong points, but my attempts this morning is to set up the coffee, tea and OJ for self-service and I stopped by the bakers and bought a large selection of pastries, croissants and crusty bread - butter, marmalade, jam, honey and marmite are all there.

Please stack your used crockery at the end of the bar and I'll wash them later. There's a storm rolling in tonight - so I'll bring in a large pot of chicken stew and dumplings when I come back to wash up and load up the fire.

Arseaboutdarkly · 08/02/2020 10:34

I see there's rumblings of dissent in the tory ranks already at the Huawei decision. Rumblings from Pence as well about the effect of the decision on any juicy deal.

Arseaboutdarkly · 08/02/2020 10:38

Assuming it must have been Cummings idea to give the green light to Huawei - Boris does what Cummings says even if he doesn't always follow the script - is Cummings deliberately looking to piss off the US and cause maximum disruption?

Nannyamc · 08/02/2020 10:43

Morning all here in ROI we are off the polls.
Big changes forecast ..let’s wait and see!!!!!

Nannyamc · 08/02/2020 10:44

Sorry to the polls

Parker231 · 08/02/2020 10:50

Nannyamc - what do you think the outcome will be?

Arseaboutdarkly · 08/02/2020 16:33

Love these

Wonder if Patel will get the boot in the reshuffle? Why the hell did they ever revivify her??
