This is a thread for chit chat, banter, memes and emojis about current politics.

It is NOT intended as a fight club.

It is NOT intended as a place to rehash old arguments about the merits (or otherwise) of Brexit - please pop over to the Brexit forum for that.

Politics threads sometimes attract posters who make personal attacks or who hold their views so very strongly that they find it hard to be respectful of other opinions. Please do not engage with such posters; MN has a handy report button for any posts that fall outside their posting guidelines.

Now, pull up a bar stool, and I'm sure one of our lovely staff will be over with a menu shortly.

Night Xing.

Time for me to turn in as well.

Enjoyed the chat.

Night all.

Arseaboutdarkly · 05/02/2020 22:52

I wasn't making a point, I was trying to answer your point but didn't understand it?

As I said, I grew up in the country so i do know that people rear animals and grow crops there and they have always taken measures to protect their revenue. In older times there was more respect for the balance you mention, now species are threatened by overuse of pesticides and intensive farming practices.

None of that's got anything to do with hunting with dogs which is an indefensibly cruel pastime.

scaryteacher · 05/02/2020 23:02

Night Xing Preparing to hunker down for the weekend - weather looks awful. Must find the candles and get logs in - we normally get some power cuts when it's as bad as forecast.

Miljea · 05/02/2020 23:22

Interesting how Pelosi is castigated for her not-that-well-considered act, but the BP MEPs embarrassing, infantile, damaging display of jingoistic Little Englander in the EP goes unremarked.

Pot/Kettle.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 06/02/2020 00:36

So after catching up on all my politics today. I see being the antisemitic/racist party is not enough for Labour. It is now also the party of, "its ok to bully & abuse people", as long as they were in the military (police and related services), are a man, are taller than you, are heavier than you, are more senior than you, have more money than you... pretty much anyone.

And what has Corbyn done? Absolutely NOTHING. Disgraceful.

DustyDiamond · 06/02/2020 07:00

Morning Brew

I've not been following stuff the last couple of days - not even had the telly on in the background 😮

Need to get back up to speed with what's going on...

howabout · 06/02/2020 09:38

Not missed much tbh Dusty Brew Host of Republicans emulating Nancy and tearing up impeachment articles. Mayor Pete for the win. Labour Leadership still stuck at the inane soundbites stage. Media already declaring SF the winners of the Irish election even though they are "topping the polls" with a vote share lower than the Tories poll in Scotland.

SNP having a little local difficulty this morning. Really really bad timing ....

In other news I forgot to put the bin out and had to brave the foxes and next doors' enormous dog (Hercules Morse to those in the know) in my jammies at bedtime. Happy to report no-one was about and the binmen had been before I left the house this morning so my NDN had taken my bin back in. Star

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/02/06/snp-finance-minister-derek-mackay-resigns-telling-boy-16-cute/

Not good for NS, especially with all the Alex Salmond stuff coming up. Not entirely clear if he has resigned as an MSP altogether, or just from the Scottish govt.

SilverySurfer · 06/02/2020 13:29

Morning everyone.

I'm shocked that you're shocked Walking Grin

Lily I'm hoping to see bread and butter pudding on the menu later.

Arseaboutdarkly · 06/02/2020 14:10

I see being the antisemitic/racist party is not enough for Labour

But it's ok for the tories? Daniel Kawczynski? Baroness Warsi's complaints of Islamophobia?

Surely these issues are far too serious to be used for party-politicking

SilverySurfer · 06/02/2020 15:02

SNP having a little local difficulty this morning

A bit of an understatement. Shocking news.

SingingLily · 06/02/2020 15:59

Afternoon, all,

Anyone seen our esteemed landlady, @ommmward? Or is she still sorting out the suppliers? I'm happy to do breakfast and a morning summary* again if it helps, Ommm*, but don't want to step on your toes Smile You're doing a valiant job of it already. Just let me know.

Still catching up on the news but no one wants the COP26 job, do they?

SingingLily · 06/02/2020 15:59

Gah, bold fail there.

New tablet.

What can I say?

time4chocolate · 06/02/2020 16:22

Late check in for me today Brew

haven't seen ommm, but if she has gone for supplies maybe it was a 'big shop' so she could be a while.

Yes to a breakfast Singing seeing as you are offering, I like to start the day on a full stomach (my granny would be proud😊).

Gonna go and have a scan of today's news and will try and pop back in a bit later.

Parker231 · 06/02/2020 17:18

Reshuffle will be next Thursday, first meeting of new Cabinet next Friday morning

Please get rid of idiots like Gove and Patel - both totally useless and not fit for purpose.

BaileysforBreakfast · 06/02/2020 17:48

...and Dominic-didn't-realise-we-were-an-island-Raab. Complete eejit.

Arseaboutdarkly · 06/02/2020 18:48

Raab is such a dead ringer for Hugh Laurie in Blackadder - not just in looks but being 'thick as a whale omelette' as well. Bet they keep him tho, he comes in handy for all those nasty jobs round the House that Boris doesn't want to do.

Can never make my mind up about Gove. At least he appears capable of stringing two brain-cells together and seemed to be enthused about the environment.

Depends if Boris/Cummings want to settle a score but he could prove a tricky enemy if they do decide to give him the chop

catsingangs · 06/02/2020 19:30

I once heard Raab described as hi de hi Jeffrey Fairbrother's evil twin brother.
Would be good to see the back of Priti Vacant, she hasn't a clue what she's talking about. Promises tough action against counter terrorism - they're your staff you idiot Grin

TheSultanofPingu · 06/02/2020 20:03

Aah yes Priti Patel, the Home Secretary of our country vowing to introduce new measures to deal with 'counter terrorism offenders'

TheSultanofPingu · 06/02/2020 20:04

Counter terrorist offenders.

HateIsNotGood · 06/02/2020 20:04

Evening All - I rushed in early this morning and sorted the fire and went again. Just stacked up the logs inside. Sort of been keeping up to date so here's my tuppence-worth:

Hunting with Dogs - been banned a long time now but one thing that always irritates me is the Riding Around in Red Coats description. The only riders that wear Red Coats are the Hunt Master and Whippers-In, not any of the other riders, who are just wearing appropriate riding clothes. The Red Riding Jackets can be easily seen from a distance.

Cream Tea - Butter, Cream, Jam, just my personal pref.. I read in my local rag that the SW Cream Tea Championship will be held here in May.

Raab LookALike Competition - already discussed in the Arms and considered to look like Rik Mayall, most often in his Brittas Role.

H - has now rented the little terraced house next door just like he did in the first Arms, I'm sure we're back in our original premises, anyway you only have to put him out the door and he can get home ok.

The Door - seems to be the same squeaky, temperamental one that's been here for centuries; just be careful folks as it has a habit of swinging right back at ya if you're not careful.

The plight of Epileptic Children and NHS prescribed medicinal THC/CBD - seems what's holding it up is the Cost the Drug Companies are charging. Terrible situation for the Families. However these plant-based extractions/drugs are not costly nor to difficult to produce (there's already several thousand amateur growers and quite a few (I don't know how many) amateurs that know how to extract THC and CBD from the raw material.
So maybe a UK post-Brexit Industry?

Labour Leadership - it's all a bit blah really and will go on, and on, and on. Still think ET would make the best adversary for BJ.

Meteors - talking of ET, blessed to see some meteors as I awoke by my window this morning; apparently part of the Quadrantid Shower.

EU Budget - well that'll be a pile of soundbites for the next 2 weeks until they meet to discuss it, apparently the UK leaving is going to impact a few countries in terms of net contributions, Who'da thought? So NL are first out into the Ring stating they ain't paying any more than they do now. Their Circus, their shit.

BaileysforBreakfast · 06/02/2020 20:06

Yes, that Patel interview was excruciating Grin

Parker231 · 06/02/2020 20:07

The UK will be paying into the EU as usual this year so any budget changes for individual member countries won’t hit until 2022.
